For everyone who needs to hear this today: You are Kenough. EDIT: Just wanted to share my favorite point that the movie made: what men need in order to truly discover who they are is the support and encouragement of other men; the idea that men need to dominate women to have an identity, or even merely that men require a partner, girlfriend, wife, etc. in order to have any identity at all is a poisonous illusion that not only harms women but cripples men's emotional lives and isolates men from each other. It makes the men that should be our brothers into threats and keeps us apart. Kens, you all look so cool.

I went into the movie not expecting men’s issues get tackled in a way that didn’t diminish the issue nor overshadow what women go through as well. This movie truly is a ken/10
i purposefully avoided as much info as i could for this movie so i could go into it blind and i didnt expect it to have this kind of genuine feminism beyond like, being a movie that celebrates girly things which are usually shamed by society. kentastic movie
no hate i agree 100% but i didnt see the part where it tackled mens issues. i think it tackled KENS issues (being in barbies shadow, not knowing who he is) but i dont see how it correlates to men as a whole unlike the barbie/women side of it
They didn't have to go so hard for a Barbie movie, and yet they did, and I'm grateful Edit: Just watched Ryan perform this at the Oscars, and it's was Kencredible
That's the difference between Barbie movie and Super Mario movie. Nintendo/Illumination chose the easiest road and made a mediocre and forgettable movie that would be just good enough to make rivers of money. Barbie, on the other hand, it's an instant classic.
The Kenergy I felt when listening to this song for the first time was more than sublime. The song demonstrates how lonely a Ken can feel under the pressures of the world, but then shows how that once Ken confronts his feelings and shares them with all the other Kens, he is not alone in these thoughts. All the Kens, experiencing the same conflicted isolation as Ken, come together in unity and realize that they are not alone in this cruel world and can rely on each other in a bromantic Kenclusion to the song. It was a truly Kentastic experience and this song will go down in history as one of the Kenfamous songs of an era.
I was already having a pretty great night, but hearing this Kenchanting song, and then reading this Kendearing comment took it over the top. Thank you, Pep_Dream. Thank you.
It's the job of men to be the bedrock of society and not break under pressure. The world relies on us to do everything even if they don't like to admit it.
I guess that's one way to look at it. I took it more as a critique of when women say "I want an emotional man.", or ask "Why don't you express your feeling more?", but then when he does, they're not interested. Then that gets me thinking, some men just don't want to get emotional and find ways to express themselves other than with words. So then when someone does try to pry at their emotions, they just become more of a nuisance.
@@strongback6550sure, men do everything😅. You might not feel so much pressure that you're worried about breaking if you admitted that everyone plays a role.
@@strongback6550 Bro definetly didn't watch the movie 💀 Only men expect this, while women expect to be able to participate in it. During history men have always been in power, which creates the feeling of what your comment said. "The world relies on us" except it doesn't. If women were taken seriously, you wouldn't feel that way. Either way, it is mostly women the ones that say men should express their feelings more, being mostly other men those who shame men for crying or feeling anything.
Honestly a great message for men today too. We don’t need to chase after and “get” the girls to be valid, and we don’t have to hide from our ourselves in the things society tells us we’re supposed to like. We can just be Ken, and that’s enough. Wherever you are bros, it’s okay, YOU ARE KENOUGH!!
Oh wow that's such a nice analysis! That's absolutely true! The obsession that our societies have on sexual/romantic relationships as something that completely defines someone has put men and women in horrible situations. It shouldn't be a life goal to search for love and validation from someone else. This obsession has put men in situation where they wouldn't feel comfortable sharing a traumatic experience, for example, because "men are always supposed to be in wanting of a relationship", or have their whole sexuality questioned just because they don't want to get involved with someone. I like your analysis. Both men and women, and everyone in between, should be happy and fulfilled with their own selves! Your comment has made me see this video - and the movie - on a whole new light!

The whole Ken storyline is such a clever mirror of second wave feminism. It baffles me how so many call this movie anti-men when the Kens’ arcs are literally finding empowerment within each other when they were sidelined and made to feel secondary in their society. A huge message of this movie is that social extremes are inevitably set to oppress everyone - even those whom they typically favor. Stereotypical Barbie literally feels useless in her matriarchal society because she is made to believe that she needs to be perfect in every way to be worth something, but she’s enough just being herself. And guess what?? This goes for Ken too!! True feminism seeks equality between women and men, and this movie does such an amazing job arguing for that.
im glad to find comments like this, the Kens had a surprisingly uplifting arc, some people are truly braindead when it comes to understanding movies lol

I really love how Ken eventually realized that he doesn't have to base himself around other ideas like 'Beach' or 'Barbie' to be Ken. He's just Ken and that's Kenough. All he needs to be himself is himself. I also love how this song represents every man's dream, being enough for themself and others along with pure bromanship. Perfection.
@@JohnPopcorn06but the movies also says it's true for women too. In the beginning, Barbie learns that she didn't actually help women in the real world and that most aren't the super successful barbies, however this too is ok and a totally valid life for a Barbie, not President Barbie or Mommy Barbie, just Barbie.
@@MrYuargai I didn't get this. I remember when at the end she was sad that she is not good at anything and she said that she didn't have any part in helping them to get back barbieland. But the message there was that she was actually a key figure in everything. That's why I found it assymetrical at the end that Ken is enough as he is (doesn't has to find meaning in others) but Barbie is totally okay getting her identity from being herself in her own way. Unless the message is that your identity should be established by anything than your love towards someone. I also didn't get why Ken is good as he is when all the jokes were about that he is incompetent because his only identity was "beach", the fur coat expresses this too (hiding the lack of talents by extreme appearance).

''When I realised the Patriarchy wasnt about horses I lost interest almost instantly'' had me laughing and crying at the same time the whole movie was so powerfull
Honestly it was hilarious but I didn’t find it powerful. It’s different for everyone I guess. Also, the real world is merit based. Nobody cares if you are a man or a woman. They hire if you can do a job. Notice that in barbieland nobody does anything really and everything is plastic, e.i sort of eternal. That cannot possibly work irl
I wish I had this movie 10 years ago to show me that I am Kenough all by myself without Barbie. A hard learned lesson, but I am glad this message is spreading. No one, man or woman, should define his or her life by whether or not they are in a romantic relationship. I am much more than what I thought I was. I am a man!
Women feel the same sometimes... I'm okay with Barbie and Ken just being a pair of PVC figures in a child's room, ready for them to be whatever they choose. No need to have them come alive on screen. But, I'm old school. To me, it's nauseating overkill. I'm not going to buy into the hype.
Ken is such a strong example of male empowerment. Don't let yourself be bound by the confines of the women you have a crush on. You are stronger than that. You are KENOUGH on your own.
He went from hopelessly in love with a woman who didn't care enough to realize he was homeless, despite the fact at the start of the film they were dating. To discovering his love of horses and self worth, after showing he was capable of literally taking over the world in a few hours, and then realized that power without his true love (horses) was worthless gave it all away.
@@rrteppoactually they werent dating in the beginning Dating is a true way streak Ken may say that they are boyfriend girlfriend But she doesnt see it that way Thats just how ken was designed to be

I really hope this song wins an Oscar. Not only is it so funny and epic, but I love the Kenergy and bromance felt in the chorus near the end of the song. It’s beautiful.
The movie and the script is clearly structured to be turn into a musical. It also has plenty of musical cues. Like half the work is already done script wise and music wise.
“My names Ken (and so am I)” just hits so hard. It sounds great, it’s literally true in the context of the movie, and it shows how all men, and honestly a lot of women too, have to deal with the burden of these societal expectations
The amount of Kenergy in this song is just breathtaking. The vibrato isn’t exaggerated and also isn’t forgotten. The clearness in his voice is truly astounding. The tone is impeccable. The volume transitions from mezzo piano to fortissimo are just brilliant. The background vocals in the bridge give chills down my spine. This song is truly more than Kenough. The exquisite piano at the start transitioning into the thunderous electric guitar adds a terrific touch. The breath control is truly phenomenal. This piece touched my heart and will never be forgotten, It’s a Ken out of Ken for me.

Didn't expect the Barbie movie to carry such a strong message of male empowerment... True masculinity isn't liking "manly" stuff like trucks and beer. It's being comfortable in yourself and doing your own thing as long as it's not hurting anyone else.
That is not what masculinity is lol Cause if masculinity is being comfortable with yourself then you’re implying femininity is being uncomfortable with yourself I agree that it’s not about trucks and stuff it’s about having drive passion ambition to conquer. And femininity is having a drive and passion to pursue relationships and help them flourish
1:22 "I wanna know what it's like to love, to be the REAL thing" the way he delivers that line and honestly that whole section is so good. This song is amazing

I hate when people say this film is "anti-man." I'm a 33 y.o. dude who constantly struggles with self-esteem and self-love issues, and this song -- as funny as it is -- really resonates with me and makes me feel more optimistic about my existence in general. It's an incredible, sensitive message for anyone, but particularly for men like myself who constantly don't feel 'good enough' compared to other men. "Anti-man" my ass. This is a film everyone needs to watch.
YES! i like the way ken's plot was resolved at the end of the movie. he realized that he had to find his own identity before stumbling into a relationship. he realized he was (k)enough and he didn't need a woman/girlfriend to prove his masculinity to the other kens, and i think thats a good message for young boys to learn from. he was def my favorite character
@LOVE-510 this is the slight issue I had with the movie how they never really acknowledged the whole thing and even poked fun at it. But at the same time I feel like it’s just a joke at how we’re treating women irl the same way. “one day the Kens of this world will have the same power as women in the real world” yk. But the actual theme of the movie was important, I don’t feel like it was anti-anything, just poking fun at the dynamics in society and something deep ig.
Yeah, the movie was pretty sympathetic towards men. It highlights how men often feel the need to perform masculinity to feel tough and fit in, even if they don’t care for those things (Ken just liked horses). And his arc with Barbie is about learning to find worth and himself and not tying his sense of worth to another person.
"Put that manly hand in mine" is an underrated line. 😆 Also love the "Can you feel the Kenergy?" bridge, which feels like something from a late 70s or early 80s hi-NRG song, such as "It's Raining Men" and "She's a Maniac". Also has echoes of "Greased Lightnin'".
“Is it a crime? Am I not hot, when I’m in my feelings?” is a really good line that I think gets overlooked. The fact that a lot of men today are automatically deemed “unmanly” when they openly express their emotions is really sad.
You can be open about your feelings, but never with your woman. Women claim to love an emotional but they really hate it. Ask any woman if they'd be ok with their man sobbing in their arms and they'll tell you "No"
@@sadtimesalways They don't tell you, they lose respect for you until they leave/cheat on you. Women hate weak men, that's why none of the Barbie's like Alan
@@VanguardDeezNutz you'd be surprised how many women want "weak and whiny" men. the riddler from the batman is the most unstable and whiniest man out there, but there are people who actually want to nail him. but i guess there's some truth to that. but not every woman share the same opinion on what makes an ideal man, so you really can't label a whole gender the same. like how would you feel if a woman started saying that men don't want a stoic, independent and strong woman? confused? perhaps offended, yea? of course, because that's not the truth for all men. some men like women with "masculine" traits, some don't, just like some women like men with "feminine" traits, some don't. jesus, there's 8 billion of us here, there's probably more different opinions than there are stars in our galaxy. and some people don't even have preferences because they don't like anyone and perhaps never will
I love the storytelling present-how the setup for this point in the plot was the Kens being made to feel worthless, as reflected in the early lines. They fight, they dance, but by the end of the song realize the support they hold for each other and how they all can live a life of their own self-confidence without someone to control or be controlled by. “I’m just Ken and that’s enough. And I’m great at doing stuff. My name’s Ken-And so am I! *PUT THAT MANLY HAND IN MINE!”*
The aim is not to look for your "other half", rather, someone who compliments you. You are whole as yourself. You don't need someone else to complete you or give you an identity. We are all "Everything" and "Enough" ❤
I think of it like an oreo. I am a whole chocolate wafer. I am looking for "my other half" or another chocolate wafer. And the creme that holds is together is love, and etc.
I loved that the Barbie movie dealt with issues men suffer. This song resonated with me because it reminded me of my last relationship. The girl I was dating made me feel worthless and that I didn't have a future because she told me that she couldn't be with me due to financial reasons (she earns more than double what I do) because she doubted that I could give her the lifestyle she wants to have when she gets married and has kids. Thanks to therapy, I now know that I'm KEN-ough!
Classic female nature at display. Women want to feel inferior, or else they can't attach themselves and fall in love. We simply have to excell on all levels as men. Get out there and crush it, but never for some woman.. Their feelings change like the wind

You can call yourself “sigma male” or “alpha male” all you want. Those who embrace who they truly are, are nice to people, and enjoy both masculinity and femininity regardless of gender will always be better. That’s what Ken stands for!
You don't understand but men can't embrace femininity because we need to be the pillars that our family can rely on, we cannot be weak because we need to be a strong and reliable so our family has someone to count on and that is why men dont cry or be feminine and be emotional, we as men are expected to make the tough decisions and to be stoic and strong so others don't have to be
This is a song that a lot of guys can connect with. Men are taught to never talk about their struggles because we are taught to be tough. If dudes can start to be there for one another and form some type of brotherhood, the world would be a better place. Divided the Kens fall, united they stand!
Thats not how guys work. Real men dont like burdening others with their issues. They try their best to solve it on their own, asking for help is generally the 2nd option because it makes them feel less capable. Self sufficiency is important especially if you are to become a father
@@imperatornoinga3646 if you have true bros then you don't look at their struggles as burdens and you also understand they don't look at yours that way either. We don't want to deal with eachother's frivolous issues but if there is a real problem we are there for eachother
@@imperatornoinga3646and thats the so called "downfall" of modern men. people always talk about mens mental health, but not the reasons mens mental health is so bad. part of it is the narrative that one must constantly be the alpha, THE MAN! and never dependant on anyone else, but that puts immense pressure on people. not to mention the idea that your identity hinges on how traditionally masculine you are, instead of your actual qualities. Thats what people talk about in terms of toxic masculinity, because masculinity itself is not toxic at all, and is very healthy in communal environments, but it becomes toxic when the obsession is with masculinity and what it means to be masculine and the constant shaming and having to be up to the standard because one can never have a moment where they are "just enough". that was the whole point of the Ken song, always having to be someone, serving a certain image and not finding self fulfilment, and just wanting to be kenough for once, for himself
@@alecburris4225 its true. I helped my friends out of drug use, was there for them when they lost loved ones. I think I may have been misunderstood. Men are different in ways to women. What really needs to happen is that men need good friends that are able to see when they are struggling and offer some advice or help. Instead of a lame therapy struggle sesh. Venting to strangers will never solve your problems. You need someone who knows you and will tell you what the right thing to do is no matter if it hurts your feelings or not.

Ken was easily the highlight of the movie.
"Am I not hot when I'm in my feelings?" is a really good line, you should never have to hide your own emotions to be loved
@@strongback6550 but it shouldn't be that way. showing emotion is healthy, suppressing it makes things worse for both men and women

@@Nupetiet Well said!

He realised he didn’t need to beach off anyone to get happiness…
But why isn't it true for the barbies? Why are they allowed to be identified by their professions?

@@Pavlovsobaka That's false. Real world is connection based. Relationships prevails over all.
I wish I had this movie 10 years ago to show me that I am Kenough all by myself without Barbie. A hard learned lesson, but I am glad this message is spreading. No one, man or woman, should define his or her life by whether or not they are in a romantic relationship. I am much more than what I thought I was. I am a man!
I feel you brother. I wasted the last ten years of my life feeling like I wasn’t good enough as a man.
You are Kenough and your feelings deserve to be validated, and you deserve real love.
You are Kenough!🥹
I’m glad some men are understanding what this film is trying to say.
@@rrteppoactually they werent dating in the beginning

As a woman, I totally agree with you!
@LOVE-510 While yes, women can do things they couldnt do before, thats not that high of a bar lol.
💜
KEN you feel... xD
It's one of my favorite lines. It's something that is especially validating when it comes from the most "manly" dude on the screen.
The part at 1:50 also reminded me of Far from over, the 1983 song by Frank Stallone (Sylvester's brother)
ken's costumes too. The visual and audio spectacle of the movie was amazing
Ask any woman if they'd be ok with their man sobbing in their arms and they'll tell you "No"
@@VanguardDeezNutz never seen such bs. and if your partner gets annoyed and hates when you cry, express emotion that isn't "masculine", leave them..
@@sadtimesalways They don't tell you, they lose respect for you until they leave/cheat on you. Women hate weak men, that's why none of the Barbie's like Alan
@@VanguardDeezNutz you'd be surprised how many women want "weak and whiny" men. the riddler from the batman is the most unstable and whiniest man out there, but there are people who actually want to nail him.
but i guess there's some truth to that. but not every woman share the same opinion on what makes an ideal man, so you really can't label a whole gender the same.
like how would you feel if a woman started saying that men don't want a stoic, independent and strong woman? confused? perhaps offended, yea? of course, because that's not the truth for all men. some men like women with "masculine" traits, some don't, just like some women like men with "feminine" traits, some don't. jesus, there's 8 billion of us here, there's probably more different opinions than there are stars in our galaxy. and some people don't even have preferences because they don't like anyone and perhaps never will
@@VanguardDeezNutz The women that say that are not ready for a real relationship.
Cannot wait to see Ryan Gosling performing this at the oscars!!

Love you, Brother. We're Kenough!
You are kenough! 💜💜💜
Classic female nature at display. Women want to feel inferior, or else they can't attach themselves and fall in love. We simply have to excell on all levels as men. Get out there and crush it, but never for some woman.. Their feelings change like the wind
@@TheRealJonster No you don't. And women don't have to degrade themselves to get a partner and neither should you as men.

I did not expect Barbie to be the movie of probably this decade that I'll be thinking about for a long ass time, but here it is and its so glorious.
Not the decade for me but thinking about a movie more than a week after seeing it, yep, it's a quite an achievement, and the funniest part is that Ken overshadowed Barbie in her own movie, I mean, no one care about Ken, I didn't but now I see the errors of my way, good job Ryan.
Right?? I was not expecting to become low-key obsessed with the movie, the music, and Ryan as Ken. But here I am. I'm gonna be pissed if there's no Mojo Dojo Casa House or Bad Ass Ken dolls released in time for Christmas 😅

Drivin' me insane
All my life, been so polite
But I'll sleep alone tonight

'Cause I'm just Ken

Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blond fragility?
I'm just Ken
Where I see love, she sees a friend
What will it take for her to see the man behind the tan and fight for me?
[Verse 2]
I wanna know what it’s like to love
To be the real thing
Is it a crime? Am I not hot when I'm in my feelings?
And is my moment finally here, or am I dreaming?
I'm no dreamer
[Bridge]
Can you feel the Ken-ergy?
Feels so real, my Ken-ergy
Can you feel the Ken-ergy?
Feels so real, my Ken-ergy

You can call yourself “sigma male” or “alpha male” all you want. Those who embrace who they truly are, are nice to people, and enjoy both masculinity and femininity regardless of gender will always be better. That’s what Ken stands for!
Literally this... Mutual respect is something to work for and to be apriciated
So man already thought they were enough by going mgtow but that was misoginy, now that Barbie movies says it's ok?

@@imperatornoinga3646 your statement exemplifies why I made my comment, bud.
They are simply not comfortable talking about problems because it is their nature and that isnt the problem. To elevate you mentally and physically. But many guys dont have that.

Ken was always Kenough, he just couldn't see it earlier and tried his best to get Barbie's attention and praise whilst devoting himself to her when really he was always great cause he was himself. It really does encourage healthy connections between people rather than falling susceptible to harmful ideas regarding who you have to be or aspire to be when really we're all Kenough.
