Did the same thing but made it a 2 inch hole with a hole saw on both sides so when I move it around I can choose which side is best for the cord to come out of. Also slapped on a rubber grommet around it that seals itself, easier than doing all this wiring for a tiny hole and a single wire.

I did the same thing except I just cut the plug and replaced it with a standard replacement plug so I didn't have to crack the strip open.... Either way it works great!

The only suggestion would be to use a step drill and you don’t need the plastic ends because your probably not going to be moving the power strip. Thanks for the video and the mod.

Would think it far easier to just get a Unibit and open one of the screw driver holes and run the cord through there, and out the back. Now if your power strip craps out you have to do this all over again. FWIW.

With all the horrifyingly bad USB power supplies out there, I don’t trust theirs at all… especially after hearing that you took it apart and found some of the mains wiring was already desoldered inside. Yikes! Definitely check out some respected tear downs of the clones and cheapies (BigClive, EEVBlog, etc).
IMO, you should just make your own with standard electrical boxes and outlets which you can populate with USB outlets from respectable suppliers, like Eaton, Levitan and Legrand. All you get by staying on-brand is color coordination considering that even the magnets are of limited use now that it’s tethered and can’t be moved far. Heck, even if you insist on using theirs, it makes more sense to put a standard outlet in there for it to plug into with your own cord coming out of the back of the box. Then you could move/remove the US General power strip wherever/whenever you want and it’s no longer limited to use inside.
My new “scratch and dent” US General tool cart lid has a badly-mangled rear corner right above where you drilled your hole. I will likely cut that portion of the lid away so that devices can route to my electrical box both internally or externally. I’ll have a really long heavy gauge extension cord so I can run power tools when I’m working on my bikes where there is no power source nearby. Not sure if I will use the roll of new appliance cord I already have or chop up an old extension cord.
