Big respect to all the schools in the Big XII, I think it is the best basketball conference in America and going to get better with our four new friends. The atmosphere in pretty much any of these arenas is crazy on game days I'm sure, although I haven't been in all of them. But if crowd noise on TV is any indication, there are no shirkers on this list.
Consecutive is not accurate either. the 1999-2000 season was sometimes known as the year without a home court as WVU played all of it's home games in Wheeling, WV and Charleston WV (and one in Fairmont WV against Robert Morris) while they did asbestos abatement.
BYU fans have averaged 16,338 over 49 years. You don’t like the outside, tough, the inside is fantastic! Last year, over the holidays, with school not in session, almost 15,000 attended. No big teams from the chosen few will come and play here because they are “Afraid”! This Arena has seen the Almighty Gonzaga fall. Now in the Big 12, Baylor, Houston and even the great Kansas can avoid it no more. Go Cougs!
Baylor is actually getting a new Arena in the future that's going to be built right next to the Brazos River, the exterior and interior is going to look insane!
Baylor started playing in the new arena this month (Jan. 2024). Foster Pavilion is much smaller than Ferrell Center, but it should have a much better fan atmosphere. Before Ferrell Center, BU played in a dump called Heart 'O Texas Coliseum, which would've been rated about 40th or 50th among all these arenas. It was a dump where the Bears had to use a trailer for its home locker room. It was used for cattle shows, and the evidence could be smelled, ugh!
Was pleased Hilton Coliseum placed #2 in a Kansas-centric ranking; didn't expect it to finish #1. I went to grad school in Ames from 1983 to 1985 (the midst of the Johnny Orr era), a decade after attending Maryland, and Hilton in many ways surpassed the legendary Cole Field House as a hoops venue. Like Baylor, it also draws well for women's basketball. The term "Hilton Magic" is not hyperbole -- there's an incredible atmosphere in Ames.
Hey Vince, I remember you from Ash Bash. Not really, but I was at Iowa State at the same time. It was a lot of fun to be able to go to Cyclone games at Hilton, there was a student lottery and ticket limits so it was not always possible to get in, but it was worth it with "Heeeere's Johnny" as Orr came strolling in. Crowd roared, Stevens, Grayer and Hornacek lead the way to a victory more often than not. Good times.
...you forgot, wrestling was the biggest draw from when it opened in '71 till the late 80's/early 90's...& w/ Dresser here it's getting back to that...
With this years preseason #1, 4 NCAA National Championships, 2 Helms Championships (no guff please, that is how they decided the National Champions before there was an NCAA) 63 Big MVIAA/ 8/12 Championships, 15 Big 12 Tournament Championships, 50 Big Dance appearances, and the acknowledged best (and loudest) indoor arena in the NCAA, Being Kansascentric is not a stretch. See you on January 27th.at Ames. You can have wrestling.
@@gocygo63 I remember watching Chris Taylor wrestler there in 1971. He made the Nebraska heavyweight he was wrestling look tiny. The entire Cyclone team was incredible that year.
Really fair list imo. I’m a student at WVU and LOVE going to basketball games, student section is rocking every game it’s really well done. Grew up going to Syracuse games in the dome, and I honestly like the coliseum so much more, as my parents did when they came to a game. Super intimate venue, great crowds for every game. The stadium is getting some renovations right now that’ll be ready this season, should be a great improvement to the stadium
I love most of the arenas in the Big 12. I love Phog Allenfieldhouse, of course. Hilton Colesium is very unique, the Ferrell Center has COME a long way, Texas Techs venue is one of the toughest in the Big 12; United Supermarkets Arena; I even like the arena name. The Gallagher Iva venue or Stillwater has always been tough. I can’t WAIT for Kansas to play in the Fertitta Center against the Houston Cougars. They have a beautiful venue. Same with the BYU Cougars. Like I said I like majority of the venues in the Big 12. It’s the best conference in college basketball for a reason. Because it’s the most competitive.
Hilton should've gotten a shout for its support of women's hoops as well (a la shout to Baylor). Love the history of Ok State's arena but it's overrated at #3 given recent seasons. Texas Tech, WV, Baylor are all tougher places to play in my opinion.
I knew Kansas would be #1. My only personal interest was to see just how low Lloyd Noble Center was. They keep talking about renovations or a new arena, yet it never happens. It's a football school. Probably why Gaylord was #1 on your football stadiums list. I can speak for OU, and you nailed it on Gaylord and Lloyd Noble. The football atmosphere is magical. The basketball atmosphere feels like a trip back to 1979...
I was also going to mention this since he uses this adverb a lot. Actually, he could use "nevertheless," or "nonetheless." "Noneoftheless" is not a word.
Bro, you completely borked Houston. The Fertitta Center is basically a 100% replacement of the old Hofheinz Pavilion. They tore it down to the foundation/roof and built an entirely new arena within it in 2017.
You need to do your homework man. The entire concourse was majorly renovated at the Coliseum in 2016 and was fan focused. New concession stands, bathrooms, and the hallways were pushed out for better flow. Next will be the shell building connector, new Olympic Sports Weight Room, and a new Olympic Sports Training Room. WVU Coliseum is definitely a top 5 B12 arena!
UCF alum here. Of course I think UCF's stadium should be much higher on your list because of the atmosphere and the exterior with the location in the center of the athletic village. But I guess somebody's got to be last.
United Supermarkets Arena should be 2nd or 3rd. Gallagher Iba is overrated on your list, OSU just dolled up cheaper-older construction facilities, in essence putting "lipstick on a pig " with Boone Picken's money!!!
I'd have Tech moved ahead of OSU but it would be a toss up between the Spirit Area and Hilton Coliseum, so I can't complain there. The Phog is obviously #1. I'd also have the Ferrell Center ranked lower. It's amenities are pretty lacking and the interior looks very dated. There's a reason the school is trying to build a new arena there.
As a KSU Alum, I can't agree more. Bramlige is great and all, but it needs a MAJOR renovation. Hopefully now that Weber is gone, the atmosphere can go back to how it was in the mid to late 2000's when we were selling out almost every game.
Swap #2 and #3 and you've got a good list. GIA bookending the football stadium isn't a bad thing, it's fairly common. You failed to mentioned the white maple floor is the original floor from the day it opened its doors. Floors were modular like they are now.
I went to K-State for grad school and I agree with many of my fellow 'Cats; Bramlage is at best "respectable". While I understand the justification behind the lodge seating around the top of the arena given the lack of luxury boxes, it gives the "simple arena" a rather cheap feel. My undergrad institution, Temple, has a considerably nicer basketball facility imo. It should be noted, K-State does have a really nice football stadium.
TCU critique/rank is fair (an opinion not shared with football stadium video), but people need to realize that TCU has a very small student body relative to the other Big 12 schools (half the size of the next smallest school, Baylor). They don't have 50K students to draw on to fill a 10K seat arena,. They only have around 10K students total, so for TCU to regularly fill a 7K seat arena is quite an accomplishment.
Not sure how the biggest arena with by far the largest crowds is like 7th because the outside needs new paint? Who cares about the outside of the arena? Kansas is definitely #1 but BYU that far down in that list? 22,000 fans is a lot of people!
K-State fan here, not upset with your ranking of the Octagon. Your three reasons are 100% spot on. Can’t wait til we make it even on skill between both Football and Basketball with y’all hawks.
Allen deserves to be #1, but even though I'm an Ok State grad, Lloyd Noble should be higher, the food there is surprisingly good. I'd go back just for the food
Why did you show a bunch of emty pics of The United Spirit Arena? It's been selling out weekly since 2018. I've personally been to Kansas, Iowa State, Texas, TCU, OSU, and Iowa State. It was easily the loudest and most intimidating of all of them
How you can put KU Airplane Hanger as #1 is crazy. Especially after ragging on many of the arenas, you reviewed as outdated and ugly. KU would be such a building. It's a dump.with a great atmosphere.
KSU fan and I like bramlage for the atmosphere, other than that it is pretty blah. As Tim Fitzgerald of GoPowercat calls Bramlage “the big mistake” when comparing it to Ahearn.
OK so Baylor's colors are green and gold - so you don't want the dome to be gold, I guess that means green which to me would be much worse. Oh I get it - you want them to paint it burnt orange for UT because after all UT is the biggest school in the area or maroon for A&M? How ridiculous do you have to be? The color is not there for your color palette - it is there to up the spirit for the Baylor faithful. Use your head for thinking please when you make videos.
You got Houston completely wrong. Hofheinz pavilion was the original arena. But UH spent $60 million to completely renovate it and named it the Fertita Center. It should be considered its own thing. Arena opened in 2018. 😉
Don’t understand the fifth third arena atmosphere comment. Obviously games against no names aren’t loud, but typically any decent name gets pretty loud. Never heard that comment about the atmosphere before

Wilson 25- Five level 1's still pending against the program and directed directly at your coach. Potentially dirty program. I don't give a damn about your history. All that matters is recent. Your fieldhouse still sucks.. That's not the only thing in your athletic program that sucks either.
@@jackernst612, this is really sad. Kansas football sucking is not really a big shock. What potentially dirty program? How would you what else sucks in Kanas athletic program? I love how you are going to believe a bunch of lying hyprocite people like the NCAA. Yeah too bad it’s already been determined that Kansas has been defrauded. He put Kansas (appropriately) dead last in football stadiums. Clearly biased… I did not go to Kansas, and I objectively think he’s right on both positions for Kansas.
I think we are going to see a shift to smaller stadiums everywhere. Going to games simply isn't in itself a draw like it used to be. The quality of the stadium is gonna matter much more in order to get fans to go in person rather than watching on TV.

Wilson 25- Five level 1's still pending against the program and directed directly at your coach. Potentially dirty program. I don't give a damn about your history. All that matters is recent. Your fieldhouse still sucks.. That's not the only thing in your athletic program that sucks either.
@@jackernst612, all BS allegiations!
Not one player from this years national championship team has ANYTHING to do with that investigation. You want recent. There it is.
Naturally Kansas would win in a bias opinion.
Being National Champs comes with some perks. They get to be #1 on this list.
He put Kansas (appropriately) dead last in football stadiums. Clearly biased…
I did not go to Kansas, and I objectively think he’s right on both positions for Kansas.
Kansas wins biased or non-biased.
@@cconnell7009 For now. Come back in 2025. Answer may be different.
Fertitta Center massively underranked...
Boring
I think we are going to see a shift to smaller stadiums everywhere. Going to games simply isn't in itself a draw like it used to be. The quality of the stadium is gonna matter much more in order to get fans to go in person rather than watching on TV.
Unless you are a Kansas fan. 21 straight years of sellouts - every game.
@@mrsteve3527 Football yes-Basketball (which this video is about) no.
Who gives a crap about how an arena looks on the outside? I would not want to be in the nose bleed seats at BYU.
It's ' none the less'..and it's 'physcal year '...not " physical year '.
Fiscal
Gallagher Iba Arena is the best
Wrong nice venue but you know who the top one is. They have the record to prove it.
The best after the Phog…maybe.
@@MrWils25No it’s easily Hilton
Cameron indoor is better
Bramlage at 13 it’s crazy, not a bad seat in there, Allen at number one is crazy great history but maybe the most junk area in the big 12
