As a UConn fan, it was a tough loss to watch, but it was a great night for college hoops. Respect to Kansas and KJ, who lost a parent. Non-conference games between blue-bloods on campus are fantastic for the sport and need to be more of a fixture in the sport. I loved that Ted Lasso sitting with Sue Bird. This game may go down as one of the greatest early season games ever.
Every time Kansas looked like they might pull away Newton would hit a three that would keep them close in the first half. Then when it looked like UCONN had taken all the momentum, McCullar made play after play. I had a feeling that this would be a dog fight of a game and it was. Great win for Kansas, but both teams are going to be better after playing this game. Rock Chalk!

I was shocked to hear that Newton is only a career 32% three point shooter. And coming into this game for this season, he was only hitting 29% from three ! After watching the last 35 years of Kansas basketball, it seems like we always run into a player who usually is an average 3 point shooter (sometimes a bit less), but who suddenly has a stunning 3 point performance against us. And I mean no disrespect to Newton or to UConn. Newton is talented, and UConn is a definite national championship contender once again.

If a road coach had a “win or it’s your job” scenario in front of him, the Phog is the last place they’d want to be. For the life of me, I have no idea how the ‘Hawks ever lose at home. I’m an old Husker fan, and Memorial Stadium (even though we suck) is an absolutely electric place to be. That said, I lived in KC for 20 years and fell in love with ‘Hawks bball. I had the joy of attending plenty of games in Lawrence. I can’t explain the emotion in that place when KU is on a run; literally impossible to put into words. If you have the opportunity to catch a game there, do it. A lot of big time schools think their fan base is the best, me included as it relates to Husker football. That said, KU basketball fan base is at least tied, but I say through gritted teeth that they may actually rule. If you attend as a visiting fan just to root against them, I strongly suggest you… …PAY HEED.
