Lifelong Longhorn fan and native Austinite here. Here’s the story of how the name Bevo came to be. You mentioned the thanksgiving game, where Texas A&M beat Texas 13-0. Later that night some Aggie fans, and maybe some cadets, snuck into the stable where the Longhorns mascot was kept. They proceeded to brand “13-0” onto the mascot. The name Bevo came from changing the 13 to a “B”, the dash into an “E”, a “V” in between, and the 0 to an “O” to make it Bevo. The name stuck ever since.

IMO you are wrong to knock Baylor's stadium for being "on the small side". Schools build stadiums that fit their school size & fan base; Baylor has 15,000 undergrads and a much smaller fan base than the big state schools. 45K is the right size for their stadium, they should be higher because its a really nice place in a beautiful setting on the river.

Self’s first team in 2004 almost made history because they they almost made KU have a 3 peat Final Four appearance. KU made the Final Four in 2002, 2003…..and almost in 2004. Kansas lost in OT to Georgia Tech in the Elite Eight. 3 straight Final Fours would have been awesome. In the OT period against Georgia Tech, junior Keith Langford was nailed with a phantom 5th foul which may have cost KU a trip to the Final Four. Replays showed Langford didn’t foul at all. The same exact thing happened to Langford the previous year in the 2003 National Championship game versus Syracuse. In that game, Langford was called for a 5th foul. Replays showed he didn’t even touch the Syracuse player.
