- Coastal Foraging/Exploring - Exploring Lands End and Diving for Spider Crabs
Exploring beautiful Cornwall and the stunning wildlife - including Cornish Chough, I visit remote Sennen Cove and Lands End. The most westerly part of mainland UK. Then dive the waters for wild edibles.
Don't forget to check out our sister channel @thefishlockerworkshop for our technical rig and tackle videos including some excellent "How to's..."

man.. walking out past the first shear line... hope those rocks are as tough as they look... here, that's a dangerous proposal...
DumbestFisherman TV - Those rocks have been there longer than any of us and will be there long after mate.
@@TheFishLocker we have sandstone cliffs here.. they shed often, killing a couple folks a year, either from overhead fall, or going out underneath someone... the first shear line is safer, but maybe not still safe...
Great video yet again John, maybe in a future video you could take your foreign viewers to that beautiful sleepy fishing village of mousel and tell them the famous story about the lights 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I'll watch that one, for sure!
Hello. Who needs National Geographic when we can watch the Fish Locker. This has to be one of my favourites so far.
I was brought up on ornithology. My father was warden of two nature reserves in Lincolnshire, Baston Fen and Surfleet lowes. I spent a lot of time helping him when i was younger. Only ever seen 1 chough and that was near Perros Gerrec in Brittany. There is a huge colony of puffins and Ganets on the islands just of the coast there, second only to the Bass rock colony. All the best, Stay safe, stay well.
- I remember seeing the bass rock colony when I was a young lad. The cliffs at Bempton are something special also aren't they. I also remember on our first visit to Bempton there was also a Long Earned Owl roosting in a small tree in a scrub nearby. I do love a good Twitch. 😊
His underwater footage is absolutely amazing and it really makes me appreciate what we have around the UK coast.
It's a good day when u can like an episode at the start without watching it as it never fails to be an absolute classic.
- I am glad you have such confidence in the content Graeme 😊
@@TheFishLocker, can't wait for the notification to pop up on my phone, had just finished my tea there so it was perfect timing mate, another classic.
Graeme Kelly - I’m glad you enjoyed it mate 😊👍🏻🦀
@@TheFishLocker, I stay on the east coast of scotland right next to a chain of fishing villages so I am going to the little village of St monans to the Fish sales and I'm going to buy a fresh lobster and try it for the first time, I an exited but weary at the same time as I have never done shell fish before ut after watching your episodes I can't stop thinking about trying it, it just looks so easy to prep and I think I will try the roasting method Mrs fishlocker showed in a previous episode.
Graeme - you are so right!! (Not that one did not watch the whole vid!! ;-) )
Thanks again for the lunch time post. It's also very impressive to continually see so many positive comments. Speaks volumes about this excellent channel.
basil boy - Unlike other channels we also leave up the “non positive” comments. As we feel honesty and integrity are important. The only comments that get removed are the offensive and spamming ones. 😉
This is one of the great things about a nice wholesome hobby that involves learning. It tends to thin out the nasty people a fair bit. I used to really hate it when I tried to be social and came up against an a.hole who just wanted an argument and to play power games. But yeah, a nice wholesome hobby with learning or patience involved and the nasty people avoid it because its too much effort. 😁 I LOVE when you properly find your own *tribe* like that. It gives me hope for interacting with people in the future.... 😊
Fat slugs, choughs and shaggs, not a bad days viewing, you had me in stitches, you trying not to laugh at chough. Yet another brilliant informative video. Keep up the fantastic work, you’ve got me hooked. 👍👍👍🙏🙏
- Haha. I did my best to keep it family friendly mate. Hunting for chuff meant something different where I'm from. Haha.
The Fish Locker . Yes,hunting for chough has a different meaning where I’m from too 😂😂
If you ever get the chance to come to Poole in Dorset give me a shout, if you have the time I’ll take you out fishing on my boat for free of course, it’s a 31ft Newhaven sea angler, I only use it for pleasure fishing for myself,it’s not a commercial boat.
Your knowledge of nature and the world around you is exceeded only by your skills as a fisherman, videographer, husband and father. It's a joy to watch your channel and I always learn something and am always fascinated by the beauty of Cornwall and the obvious joy and respect you have for the world around you. Thanks for all that you do. Cheers.
We simply live as we feel is right and share what we know and love doing in the hope that is helps people out somehow. 😊
I'm not much of a sea person (though I love nature) but I just wanted to say that your videos instilled a fascination in me.
And I'm not joking when I say I now would like to go to Cornwall for a holiday.
- There really is something just incredible about the shore and the sea. I just love it. I wonder if our videos have done anything for the tourism industry in Cornwall.haha.
Is there anything more fun than an explore? With an open heart, no expectations. I see the beauty in the simplicity of the village and appreciate the keen eye and wisdom of the people there to leave things alone and let every aspect of nature there SHINE and be the star. What a beautiful watch. Am grateful for this. Thank you.😊
- That was beautifully put Ann. Very well said. I am glad that you enjoyed the video and have a wonderful day. If things become safer we hope to do more of these videos soon and build on the coastal exploring playlist. 😊
@@TheFishLocker 💫👍
You literally know everything about nature. I'm so impressed every walk u take us on. I am jealous of where u live
Kelly Ralston - We are simply sharing what we love doing Kelly. 😊👍🏻💙
Thank you John for lovely blog BEAUTIFUL place nice to see you again hope the family is all well. Steve
- Thank you Steve, it is my pleasure. I am glad you could join me. 😊
You are such an amazing man GOD BLESS and I pray your family is safe always
Jan Vazquez - Thank you Jan. Best wishes to you and your family and stay safe. 😊💙
I think I love your videos so much because there isn't any yelling, or clickbait titles. It's just as it is, and it's suppeeerrr relaxing to me. I really wish I could live in England at some point just for the coastlines. Don't get me wrong, NC has nice beaches, but the amount of crabs and seaweed is nothing like we have here. It's stunning to see the cliffs and how green it is🤩
- Thank you Lauren, it is something I absolutely pride myself on. Simple, honest and original content. No drama, no B/S. Just a passion for what I do. Have a wonderful day and stay safe. 😊
What a great start to the weekend, a Walk and a dive with the Fish Locker.
Thanks for starting it off proper.
- It is our pleasure Kerry. Have a wonderful weekend. 😊
You really do know how to entertain us with your videos. The scenery, narrative, plants and creatures make for compulsive viewing and your exploring Cornwall series is better than anything I have seen or read. As always thanks for posting.
- David, at a time when things are always so negative and stressful we are simply trying to share a little peace and beauty with you all. Best wishes and have a cracking weekend mate 😊
You’re like the David Attenborough of the coast! I absolutely love listening to your calm voice and unlimited knowledge. I love that you are respectful and maintain sustainability. Your videos entertain and inform. I can safely say I know my sea pinks from my bird’s foot and the correct way to identify a male or female crab. I hope we can watch your videos for many years to come! I’m watching all the way from South East Asia and I look forward to watching your next video. All the best Elle 😊
- It is our pleasure to be able to share our passion and knowledge with you 😊👍🏻
People thrive. To achieve a beautiful rock Gardens. But nature does it best. I love these video. Very educational. Ive been on quite a few walk with my children. Building memorys for my old age
- Nature is wonderful at creating beauty isn't it. 😊
You looked like you were going to crack up when you were talking about the crow.😂 Made me crack up.😂
- Haha. Telling someone you're going off looking for some Chuff would raise a few eyebrows in the North East.Haha.
John, your videos are so lovely and soothing. Your family are such an inspiration. Thank you. Be safe.
- Candice it is our pleasure to be able to share them with you. Best wishes and have a lovely weekend 😊
Brilliant again John felt like we were walking along with you what beautiful views and the shots of the coves and caves if you closed your eyes you could see the smugglers coming in with the Brandy and silks and the revenue men waiting for them boys own stuff keep the video coming mate keep safe tight lines
- I love that sort of stuff. I often think about those things when I'm out fishing these remote spots. I love it.😊
I'm a little ashamed to say that Cornwall was never on my radar before I started watching your videos. Now, I just want to visit all these beautiful places! The colors of the sea life are breathtaking. The lighthouse, the cliffs, Mullion Harbor from a previous video. Maybe once the world calms down and travel is easier I'll be able to visit one day.
- That sounds like a plan Amy. We hope to do more of these videos from around the coastline when things are safer.
You guys live in a beautiful part of the uk, we have holidayed down there many times .Your vids are spot on and make us want to visit again from Lincolnshire, keep up the good work...
- It really is a stunning place isn't it. I'm glad you enjoy the videos mate and best wishes to the family. 😊
Yet again, wonderfully informative and entertaining. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion for nature and wildlife with us. Perfect viewing for a chilly Saturday, for two of your avid New Zealand followers! Much love to the Fish Locker family xx
- I am glad you could join me Liz. Have a wonderful weekend. 😊
I love the bird hunt! 😊 Kind of like a "Where's Waldo?" That crab was massive!!! Thank you for the sunrise tour; I always enjoy your videos.
Steph W - It is our pleasure Steph. I am glad you could join me. 😊
Thank you for sharing lovely Cornwall coast and your love for everything in and off of it 💙
It is our pleasure. 😊
Mr. Fish Locker: This view is just breathtaking

He’s a bit cheeky...women go for that.

Your knowledge of flora and fauna is amazing. Love your channel. Respect to you and yours.
Thank you very much Mark. I am glad you enjoy joining us on our adventures. 😊🦀🦞
Actually, I felt like you were walking in the Shire in the Lord of the Rings world, calm and beautiful views. 🥰
And the underwater scenery is so beautiful, actually your words are true, I felt like its a jungle of seaweed😊
the jellyfish stole the magical moment i felt there, i remembered spongebob 😂
And the crab become Mr crabs 😅😂
I do love your videos 🥰
Grait Job 😎👍
- It is a stunning scenic place isn't it. The kelp beds were just impenetrable weren't they. Like a proper jungle. Proper Wrasse grounds. The jellies are lovely to see aren't they. We are getting more of them lately as it gets warmer. Take care and have a lovely day. 😊
@@TheFishLocker every things was beautiful.🥰

I have watch this 3 times already. I am just in awe of the beauty and glory of where you are. It is simply breath taking. You are certainly informative. Thanks for share you part of the world. Oh how I would love to see it on my own. God Bless and Thank you so much for sharing.

@@TheFishLocker Visiting Cornwall is my dream. Maybe when all this virus is done. We are have a second wave. People got stupid over our Memorial weekend. They open beach and bars up. Thursday we had over 45,000 new cases reported. It has become a real hassle in the states. Plus we have had stupid riots over crazy things. People burning mask and flags. Destroying property. You name it they'll do it. I am ready to get out of here. It's gone nuts.
gorgeous little village. Just loved this vlog.
- Thank you Lidia, it is a lovely little spot isn't it. 😊
I admire you and the lessons that you teach us viewers whether you know it or not.. 💘 from Australia 🇦🇺 😃
- Thank you. We are simply sharing what we know and love doing. I hope you have a great day and take care 😊
John! I've just noticed that you look a little bit like Steven Gerrard. Well in!
- Haha. Someone did say that a while ago. Its either him or Joseph Gordon-Levitt.lol.
Absolutely he does. I never used to like Gerrard, I do like him now.
What an awesome video, congratulations you have captured the essence of the wild west, perfectly wonderful.know that area very well. Watched it with my grandchildren first class teaching material, you ought to be included on the national curriculum. Blessings to you and your family for peace, health, happpiness and love.
- Haha. If my school teachers could hear that they would roll around laughing. I hated school. I just wanted to be out on the shore or in the woods. 😊
Made me laugh you trying to keep a straight face describing the rarity of Cornish chough!
Maurice Harvey - Haha. Where I grew up. If you said you were out hunting for some “chuff” it would mean a very different thing. 😆
The Fish Locker Omg I looked up Yorkshire chuff meaning. How funny!!!
@@TheFishLocker i can only imagine what Chuff and shaggs mean from where your from. when your going out and shout out I'm going to look for some chuff and shaggs #keepingitclean #familyfriendly
Hello again from Oz, I've been in Oz since 1970 but as a kid our family holidays were always in Cornwall & to see these places again is fantastic.
St Ives was always my favourite, though I expect its difficult to dodge the tourist these days, thanks again for another quality video & good health to The Fish Locker family.
Stay safe mate, cheers from Oz.
- Hi George, yes it is very difficult to find a moments peace anywhere with the tourists. Partly why dawn is may favourite part of the day. As most of them are still asleep. Glad you enjoyed the video and best wishes to you and your family. Take care mate. 😊
Hello pal , Hefty spider that was & you looked really chuffed with that chough🤣 you must have the golden touch , I went down to Cornwall to see some birds but never managed a shag so well done for that one ☺️
Lovely part of the world & a great time to be out. Listening to that crow in the background I was wondering if it was a cat or a fox in the area , it’s a particular tone in the call which is pretty unmistakeable .
Those pots certainly bought back some memories . 2 of us were doing up to 9 strings of 50 a day.( unfortunately I wasn’t on the winch🤦♂️) We had a couple of strings of those oblong ones but mainly the round heavy ones of roughly 35-40kg on snoods every 25m.
There were occasions we’d only have to pull a couple or 3 to get our quota of about 1250kg. Off the back of the Wight ,crab was not only jammed inside but literally stuck to the outside of the pots too .on the harder days we’d pull all 9🥵 backbreaking but interesting . Enjoyed this video once again , thank you.Best wishes to you and yours .x
- Haha. Nice wordplay. 😉 Yes it interesting isn’t it that you can pick up on certain animal/bird sounds and calls to mean different things. Aye some days I remember getting 6 stone of crab out of a single pot. There was literally no room left that wasn’t filled with crab.lol happy times. 😊🦀
The Fish Locker
Couldn’t resist the wordplay there .... bit of an open door🤪 Yeah happy days for my skipper !!!🤑😏
Rarely had much in the way of spiders off the back of the Wight possibly more inshore. Is it the case with them as it is with the female edible crabs from October that they weigh heavy with the coral ? Apart from a string on st Catherine’s point we were 15 -20 miles off , that string just 1/2 a mile off the point at st Catherine’s deeps was incredible , you could only pull it on slack water as the marker buoy was already 3ft under water racing in the tide and you could barely get it aboard some days .the whole process would take about an hour but my god I’d never seen so much crab in my life, the bottom must’ve been literally crawling . You’d want to have all 9 strings working but the tide wouldn’t allow it. One day an 18th century anchor about 4ft tall with about 5 inches deep coral and barnacles around it came up , just about hooked onto the side of one of the pots . I think it’s still In my mum and dads garden somewhere in the undergrowth ... amazing whats down there and yet to be discovered .😳enjoy the rest of you’re weekend with the family .x
Beautiful seaside full of amazing wildlife. Watching the video is like having a walk along the coast and diving under the sea with you, such an enjoyable experience. 😎
- I am glad you could join me Jia. 😊
Lives in Cornwall, talks like a yorkshireman.
- That'll be because I am originally from Yorkshire. 😊
Geordie!!!!
I, as well, thought he to be from Yorkshire.
I would have placed you at either Middlesbrough or Redcar giving the accent. Fantastic video as always 👍👍
Familiar accent to me, most of my family are from the same town as John. Beautiful part of the country!
Beautiful. ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS! Thank you for sharing John . I love this planet. And what a great dive. I'm not feeling too well today but your getting me thru it. Much appreciated.
- Oh no. I hope you are feeling better by the time you read this. Take care and have a wonderful weekend. 😊
Honestly wish I could dive like this for seafood, but living inland there arent really any shellfish I could gather.
- Who knows where the future may take you. One day you may find yourself by the shore. 😊🦀
I'm so happy that your channel continues to grow. God bless you guys, and thank you for for continuing to share with us all such wonderful things.
Wes Brown - Thank you Wess. I am constantly blown away by how the channel has grown. There is a wonderful community of viewers, it is fantastic. 😊💙
Have to say what I love (and appreciate) about your work is that you really bring home just how beautiful our own country is. Sure there's beauty everywhere in the world but these days its so easy to think everywhere is 'better' because of sun, weather, people etc etc but look at what natural beauty we have here on our own doorstep ..and you illustrate it so well.
I think you've found a niche on here on youtube and it also highlights that you have a way, your own way, with words and manner that is also I'd say a talent. You have a way of portraying all this in a really down to earth way but with articulation intelligence and humour and you overall respect the environment. (the Cornish Attenborough!)
My dad took me fishing all the time (indeed I was out yesterday on a local lake to me) and that flutter of excitement with localised 'living with the environment' and not taking from it all the time, brings back to me those great feelings and memories I recall as a kid
Well done on this venture and long may you (and your family) continue in good health and spirit.
- Thank you very much for the kind words. We are simply sharing what we know and love. At a time when there seems to be nothing but conflict and negativity gong around - we are just doing our best to share something positive. Best wishes and take care. 😊🦀🌿💙
Watching your videos on a night shift is an absolute must for me! Time flies much faster! Glad I found your channel! Never disappointed and learning a lot! It's a good thing I put my notifications on...Cheers from Canada!

That's was great, wonderful to see the Choughs, I've never seen them except in books. The scenery and the wildlife were great to see and an underwater adventure as well. Great video, thanks so much!
- I’m glad you enjoyed the vid mate. So glad to catch them on camera. 👍🏻😊
I’d rather see a chough than see down the cliff side. Thanks for sharing your walk. It’s much appreciated.
- Any time. 😊👍🏻
I'd honestly love to live in that little fishing town. so close to the ocean like that. It's a dream
- In the winter that is a wild place to live. Google “Sennen Cove Storm waves”

Beautiful place with beautiful birds and flowers. Thanks for sharing! -C-

Thank you for the response. I love the cook up’s also!
It is my pleasure John, I saw a comment from you earlier but cannot find it now. We do not get Abalone anywhere on mainland UK. They are quite a unique and acquired taste also, so even if we did I do not think many people would eat them. 😉
Thank you for another great video. I love seeing the beauty of your country. Thanks for sharing John.
- It is our pleasure Twyla. 😊💙
Just wanted to thank you for your videos, I've just been back on the coast foraging for lobsters after a while off. I had little success in the past but managed to catch two after watching your videos so thank you very much!
- It is my pleasure Michael. Great work with the lobsters. 😊
That was a gem of a watch. Fantastic insight into the local wildlife. Something for everyone in this video.

Many of these plants are common in Canada but I always learn something from your videos. We have cormorants - usually fresh water. I always LEARN from you. Thanks so much.
- I always love learning about the species and plants in new areas. 😊
Fantastic video, loved the cliff walk and seeing the choughs made an old Cornish boy very happy.
- It is my pleasure Steve. I really enjoyed this walk, I am glad I could share it with you. 😊
My favourite time of the day as well. Very enjoyable video. Thanks for sharing.
- Definitely the best time of day mate isn't it. 😊
Loving it from America. Much of your foraging territory reminds me of New England. Just a super, super channel where every episode is unique in its own right.
- Thank you Jay. We do try our best to make sure we keep things interesting and original. Some channels only really have one type of video and they get a bit repetitive I find. Best wishes to you and your family and have a great day. 😊👍🏻🦀
ABSOLUTELY loved this one! Those cliffs were awe inspiring! Thank so very much for sharing!
- It is our pleasure Lawanda. 😊
When I was in Austria I visited Obersalzburg or The Eagles Nest, Hitlers hideaway. A walk up to the trig point there is a viewing area and on the a surrounding fence was perched a Chough. Theirs were about a dozen around the area and quite tame. A lovely bird to see at 3000 ft above sea level with views of mountains where ever you looked
I'm hooked. So much diversity.
- I do love these exploring and diving videos. I am so looking forward to doing more. 😊
Thank you again for a wonderful video. What a beautiful area of England - all the best to you and your family. Take care. Be safe. Chris.

That was a very good episode. Thank you for the entertainment. I would love to live in a place like that. So much adventure to be had and beauty to reflect on.
- It is our pleasure. I am glad you could join me on my morning adventure. 😊
Absolutely outstanding as always, you are becoming the NEW DAVID, NO JOHN ATTENBOROUGH OF THE SEA, everything you need in a 30min blog, Great stuff. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk. 🐟🐟🐟
- I don't know about that Mike. I am glad that you mentioned about the video length. Do you think 30 mins is a good length or should they be shorter? Shorter would be easier but I don't want people to be left unsatisfied?
@@TheFishLocker morning John, personally I prefer 30 _45 min blogs, I know it's more hassle for you and Mr's fish locker, BUT, AND IT'S A BIG BUT, you show your blogs like a short film, like nobody else, I. E. Coastal foraging at Night time, you. Show and discuss all your finds, lobsters, star fish etc, and the iceing on the cake, you or Mrs fish locker, cooks a great meal. Basically john l don't think you can do that in a very short blog. Only my opinion. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk. 🐟🐟🐟
What an amazing part of Cornwall that is, me and the family stayed in St Ives and we walked the costal path to lands end the views are breathtaking ❤
- Have you seen our other coastal exploring videos? I have really enjoyed making them. 😊
Thanks for sharing your place..Its awesome there and very beautiful...

Education, entertainment and brilliant photography ☝️👍
- Thank you David. I am glad you could join me. Best wishes and have a great weekend. 😊
Thanks for sharing. FYI heights make me dizzy so watching this one was a challenge for me. But I did love the scenery and your knowledge of nature in UK. Definitely one of your best.
I am glad you enjoyed joining me for the walk. 😊🦀
That's some thick sea vegetation down there. And a good amount of crabs down there. Beautiful scenery
- It was intense wasn't it. Such dense kelp it was hard to get through at all.
Another great Fishlocker production 👍👍👍👍👍
- Thanks Steve. Best wishes mate. 😊
Stunning. Bright sunshine or storms you cannot beat it! Great video’s!

That's some coincidence! I was walking with my granddaughter yesterday
on the cliff tops and we came across 2 burnet moths. I'd never seen one before in my life and had no idea what they were. Before I've even had time to Google them, there you are with an answer. Beautiful photography above and below water.
- Haha. It just have been telepathy at work William. They are special looking guys aren't they. 😊 Best wishes to you and your family my friend.
If you ever go to Scotland, head for Ardnamurchan, then go the the lighthouse at the end of the peninsular. You can climb to the top & look out to the islands of Rum, Eigg, Muck & skye. You are then at the most westerly point in mainland britain. great video once more, keep it up !
- Ahh, that is interesting. I have just had and interesting 10 mins fact checking reading. Learn something new every day. Thanks Ashley 😊
Good morning John 🌞 wow what a stunning place, brought back memories for me thank you.l sat watching this with my mouth and eyes wide open....that's a place of real beauty... it really is, Chough birds 😲 how Fantastic is that, love never seen them before 👏👏l could go on and on John but things to do this morning on the allotment 😊 all the very best 🌱🌱🌱💕oh that was something else 👌

My knees would be knocking long before I got that close to cliff edge !!! Great country !!! Great vid as usual!

So much information again. I really enjoy these videos thanks John.

Beautiful images John, that involved decent framing and the capture of the rugged, wild coastline that approaches Lands End: Thank you for capturing this scenic beauty:
- I am simply doing my best to share some of our local beauty. 😊
Thanks.
😊
Just Simply Perfect Again, and Amazing!
- Thank you James. 😊
Over the last few years I have subscribed to different fishing/outdoors channels. I have unsubscribed to all the others because the owners of those channels seem to only care about likes or views. This channel doesn't seem that way at all, I feel like I always learn something new and that the focus is on spreading knowledge. I appreciate that.
- Thank you Clay. I am truly glad that is how our channel comes across - because that is something that really annoys me about other channels and I absolutely didn't want ours to be the same. All that some people care about is the views and "being a youtuber" so will copy or clown just for likes and views. We are simply sharing what we know and love doing with people who share our passion for the outdoors. Long may it continue. 😊
Thanks again John...
- It is our pleasure. 😊
Another wonderful story well told. I was with you all of the way and your narrative is so natural and beautifully informative I defy anyone not to feel lifted by it.
Great job Sir and I hope your family are all well and avoiding the mayhem down there right now.
Thank you
- Thank you Andy, that was really nice to hear. Aye we are simply doing our best to stay out of the way of it all mate. We don't need anyone else's drama. 😊
Excellent blog, Thank you.

- I always find these places are much better seen at that time of day. 😉
Very educational videos, great views, beautiful place with loads of wildlife thanks

What a fantastic video, John. This walk took me into Memory Lane, walked this walk several times when I still lived in England.
