987s are honestly one of the best Porsche has ever made. And a true classic now, one of the last analogue and mechanical Porsches.
Did he say staigt 6 ? It's a flat 6.
Small correction: PASM lowers the car by 10mm compared to base suspension, but it's static. All the damper button does is stiffen the shocks. Great video and I've been blessed to experience my stock 06 Cayman S on similar roads and at Laguna Seca. Very enjoyable and communicative driving experience indeed. Just a shame the engine's oiling system isn't up for track duties.
How about the gear shifting? Is it as responsive as modern pdk? And do I need to move the gear knob to S mode to use the stock gear shifters
1:08 Flat*
Can't believe he said that
I live close to this road and have driven it many times over the years in lots of different cars, but over the last couple of years in my Porsche 981 Boxster S. You really can keep within an average speed of 50mph and have lots of fun in one of the best handling mid-engined cars ever!!! 😀👍🏻
Couldn’t agree more these cars are so enjoyable at legal speeds on greasy windy roads. The delicacy or handling is sublime
He never stops smiling with this car.
It's not a stepping stone to a 911 ...it's a better car and one you should stay with
No, no, it's a stepping stone, we don't want them to become too popular.
@@gsd4me00 YES !!! 911 is 1000000 times better, the Cayman is cheep bad car ;) (that I want and plan to buy...).
there are average speed cameras limiting you to 50mph
which is still fast for such twisty roads but it makes you paranoid and spoils the fun
it's better in the wet because you feel like a rally driver on the edge at fully legal speeds
Just drive fast, take a long break then drive fast again :) Here I use the places with speed cameras to do speeding because it is pretty much 100% no chance they are doing manual speed control where there is speed cameras (and the cameras so easy to see that you must be blind to be trapped by one...)
"a stepping stone between a Boxster and a 911"? It's the same car but just not a convertible! As for the the "straight six" description, I really wonder who writes this rubbish.
@1:08 "Straight Six" 🤣😂🤣😂
"A straight six"?
Sure, part of the Porsche/BMW collaboration at the time, everyone knows that.
3ducs lol...someone will read this and believe you!
Love this road, shame it’s now got average speed checks on it
drive with no plates on it
You said 3.4 straight six? Did I hear it wrong? It is flat 6 actually.
Wait....straight 6? (Checks under in car firewall)....what you talkin about?
Shame the average 50 cameras have spoilt it since.
The choice of making everything black and white except the car does this Cayman no justice at all. It just makes everything look muddy.
This was from a time when well graded automotive content had not yet been invented. They also used potatoes to film it.
Tiff introduced the pause..
the ... in the world was added by Clarkson, later
My Porsche has a V-6 , how about that
PASM lowers the car with or without the button press. PASM is active with or without the button pressed. When press it stiffer for track use. The sport button makes a big difference to throttle response for sure. It makes it feel faster form acceleration in every gear. PASM allows for 19” wheels and still feels comfortable to drive, put 19” on a none PASM and it feels way to stiff and uncomfortable.
Agres, makes a very noticeable difference in mine
Wow quite weird how he nearly crashed and then a hearse went by
Why is it black and white background? Looks odd.
Turned this off as soon as you said straight 6.
Tiff did you realy say "it has a 3.4 liter straight 6"? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also the PASM never lowered the car by pressing the bottom. It was generaly 10 mil lower than standard damper.
did tiff just say straight six?
He doesn't have to shift. He could have left it in 3rd and just drive.
He definitely wasn't sticking to the speed limit.
Why is the video quality so terrible?
Tiff at his best thanks
Straight 6? Is it BMW powered?
No, boxer 6, by Porsche.
He looks like Bryan Cranston aka Walter White lmaoo
it's not a bloody straight six.
Beautiful road
cant tell the difference with the wing down. almost loses control of car
Flat six *
So on that kind of road, you do not need a S version !
Fourth. Is this a thing, then?
For those of a slightly simple nature, it seems to be.
Nothing dangerous with the road its the pratts who drive on it who over estimate their driving ability.
👏🇧🇷
Fifth gear is awful.
Third 👍
this just a normal ass backroad in America
That is not the latest Porsche Cayman S. The 718 is. Maybe this is just a repost of an old video.
Repost of a very old one
In the description of the video: "Taken from Series 8 of Fifth Gear, first broadcast in 2005"
@@adamprobst5543 No one reads anymore.
Public roads are not race tracks. Maybe Scotland yard needs to investigate this footage. He almost crashed to another vehicle unless that was their own scripted oncoming car.
Like Carbuyer, Carkeys and What car do way more informative and interesting car videos. Instead of a reckless driving. This sort of nonsense is so out of date.
The whole point of this video is to show driving can be enjoyable at everyday legal speeds -- and that's exactly what he did here. I didn't see any reckless driving from Tiff; rather, another car pulled into the main road without checking for traffic.
Correct, however, first this video is 12 years old, and secondly, he makes it clear that he does not exceed the speed limit. As an ex professional driver, he knows what he is doing.
You seem like such fun. You must be great at parties.
