Great video thank you because of your video I am not scared to install mine now
Glad you found it useful. It really is an easy install, just take your time and if you're not sure, take pics along the way in case you have to look back and reference something. But it's not a hard install to do at all. Good luck and safe travels!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hey chief, great video and love the fact that you kept into it your blunder for people to get what not to do and why! Major kudos for that! I need to know if there is a "customer service phone number on the box or an email address for inquiring about items or information. I'm looking to get the Arlen Ness big sucker air filter system for my Harley-Davidson street series motorcycle, yes the 500/750 series. Could you please text this information to me chief? Laugh at me for my request about my bike. The FisherPrice/Playskool exhaust is having my biker gang friends point at me and llaugh in hysterics as they see me roll up on MY Harley-Davidson with that exhaust pipe!😱 Embarrassing is putting it VERY mildly! Doug🏍️🥺
Thank for watching and commenting. You can call ArlenNess and their tech support was amazing and friendly. They should be able to to answer any questions. Their tech support is 925.479.6379 and sales # is 925.479.6350. Maybe try Sales first as they could probably get you the information you are looking for.
Killer video. I’m gonna install this. I was trying to figure out who you sound like. It’s Doug Goodstein from those old Howard stern show videos I watch. You must be from the east coast.
Thanks. And yeah, Long Island NY here. Home of Howard Stern. No hiding that NY/Long Island accent! Thanks for watching and commenting and good luck with the install. It really is easy unless you make the stupid mistake I did!
Yikes. You know that thing was under pressure the way it snapped and popped. Good thing it came out easy for you. I made the same mistake on a valve cover for a corvette years ago, I wasn’t so lucky on the retraction lol it was bad for everyone involved.
Thanks. Yeah I definitely got lucky. I was crossing my fingers hoping in wood t have to drill Ian’s tap an new hole. Lesson learned to Always double check the toque! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Don’t use oil, use grease, red and tacky… if you don’t have grease you can use Vaseline.
Thanks. That's an excellent tip. I watched a video where the guy used oil, so that's what I went with since it was my first time doing it. But grease sounds like it would have been perfect. Thanks again!
Just bought the exact same filter luckily the stand off bolts are already in place the bike it's self is going to the bike shop for lots of bits and bobs to be fitted for mot and English reg papers I won't be snapping no bolts.shit happens ,, then you have a cup of Yorkshire tea 🍵
Good luck with it. I think it looks great. And I'm sure the guys working on your bike will be smarter than I was and torque it correctly! Enjoy and safe travels!
So with the new air cleaner do you not hear that hollow sucking sound?
You hear it at idle, but once you get moving the sound of the pipes drown everything out
Hey man good video we all been there, but always palm a ratchet use the palm of your hand as torque, when that's tight that's it!!!!!!.
Now you have to do the breather bypass hoses I'll be waiting for that video thank you
I was thinking about the breather bypass. I know many people do it, some people say don't bother as the engine is built to burn the oil etc... Me personally, I would rather have it bypassed then being thrown back into the intake!
@@Mudslidex1 hell yeah Joe it worked out great, feels like I have more power with the engine more air also.
I made my own catch can out of a old prescription bottle drill the top and put holes in it and a big hole for the 3/8 rubber fuel hose works great
Wish I had watched this before installing. I made the same mistake so I've ordered a new stand off bolt. Question, did you ride with the filter on 2 bolts while you waited for the replacement bolt? I really don't want to reinstall my stock cleaner while I wait for shipment lol.
Sorry it happened to you but makes me feel better that I'm not the only one :) But yes, I did drive it around for about a week with the 2 bolts holding it together, and I had no issues riding it like that. Although I wouldn't feel comfortable riding it like that for a long time. I wanted to get it fixed properly which is why I ordered the replacement bolts. Good luck, hopefully yours broken bolt is as easy to remove as mine was.
@@Mudslidex1 Thanks for replying. Hopefully it won't take too long to receive the replacement. I'm praying that I have as much luck as you removing that broken bolt. Fun times.
did it come with the gaskets or you had to buy them?
It comes with a new gasket in the kit
For $200 Ness could have provided an aircraft quality standoff that would have cost them pennies more. Yeah, it's important to read the instructions and 30 ft/lbs is pretty damn tight for aluminum going into the head but still......
What about the breather bolts on the heads? Old Harley air cleaner had hallow bolts if any oil came out.
Yes, even this 2009 had breather bolts which remained, and any oil that blows through them still makes it through as there are channels built into the intake that direct the oil into the intake to be burned up. That still remains
what did you do with the two metal washers in the o ring bag where do they go
put a little grease on the gaskets not old, Grease will hold better
That’s a great tip! The oil didn’t work very well. Thanks!
So you took off a good covered stage 1 for that open, bug catching junk 😂
Can I fit the original HD teardrop cover over this thing ?
No. It has different standoffs and the circumference is bigger than the cover
@@Mudslidex1 Which Arlen Ness Big Sucker or whatever can I refit the the original teardrop to please ?
Forget about the "blue locktite shit" use common sense! (a rare thing on the internet I know)
waaaay to much locktite
and torque too!! :)
so where the hell does the blow off from the engine venting go? You guys seem like amateurs who do not know how an engine works, maybe your shiny shit isn't worth the $
It goes in the same spot it went before. It's not a bypass . Nothing changed except the shape. Do you know how intakes work?
😻 𝓟Ř𝔬𝓂𝔬𝐒ϻ
Good video as this is my next purchase....my 09 fxd is identical except it club style🤘🛵
It definitely looks cooler than the stock intake setup. But that's just opinion I guess. Either way, it's an easy install and I think looks great! Thanks for watching and commenting. Safe travels!
@@Mudslidex1 so u can put the OEM cover back on, over this filter setup??
@@adamhill2788 No, you leave it as is. This is an exposed filter. The OEM one wont go over this one. It's not meant to. Also the mounts are different.
