I just happened to find your channel and I am already addicted! What beautiful decorations you have made and you've given so many great tips! And I actually find the sound of your voice very comforting and encouraging! Thank you for this!
Since I love napkins, I am always looking for ways in which to use and gift them. Your rock creations are a perfect way to do that. Thanks for the clear, precise tutorial and tips.
I like your idea of leaving the rocks somewhere! I love to craft but end up with too much. Great idea as the rocks can be put in your pocket of tote bag to distribute!!
Hi Denise! I agree I always have a lot of stuff from crafting! Look up thekindnessrocksproject.com for more information on hiding rocks, it’s fun and a very nice gesture! Thanks for watching! - Joan 🙂
I just found your channel. You are a wonderful teacher! I watched many videos you have done. They are great! Where have you been all my crafting life? I liked and subscribed.
Hi Diane! Thank you so much for such a very sweet comment. I have only been making videos for a few years but have taught crafting for many! Thank you for watching! -Joan 🙂
I really really love this idea I'm a crafty person I do a lot of craft from beadworks to window engravings to Woodward drawing wood burning and I love to find new things to do and my kids love to paint rocks but this is a great new way for them to do it and it's so easy thank you for showing me this
Jessica Freeman thank you so much and I think your rock group will love it! I have another video where I Decoupage loose leaf notebook paper onto rocks. With school opening soon they would be great for the kids! 🙂
How do the rocks withstand outside elements? Do they fade, peel or crack? Great video and you're so creative! Thank you for taking time to make your video.
Leeann springer I think it depends on where you live and the weather. Eventually they will probably fade and crack if left outside for extended periods of time. I’m glad you enjoyed my video! 🙂
I am in love with ALL of your crafting videos. I just got all of the supplies to make the holiday plates with napkins. The ones you made are so very pretty and I am excited to make some as well and for gifts. My one question is, does it matter when I put the mod podge down if it can be, the matte, gloss or satin, does it make a difference which one I use? Thank You and I am telling some friends and family who love to craft, all about you and your sharing tips and your creative talent❤️
Hi Maria! Thank you so much for your very sweet comment. I usually put glitter on the plate first and I like to use the matte Mod Podge. I rarely use the gloss or satin . So if you are limited to one variety I would say the matte. Works on most things and then the sealant is the final finish. In the case of the plate it doesn’t matter the sealant because you won’t see it from the front, the sealant goes on the back. Well, that was long winded but I hope it helps., Thank you for watching and let me know how things go! - Joan 🙂💕
I'm curious to know if this same method can be used with tissue paper like from a gift bag. Do you happen to know? Also wondering where you find these awesome napkins???? I've never seen any like those before. Beautiful work!!!
Hi Gladys! I usually get my rocks from Home Depot. I look for the white rocks that come in a bag, they’re good for decoupage. Thank you for watching! - Joan 🙂
Ur Decoupage on various types of rocks is Really Stunning!! Thanks a ton for sharing your Knowledge ! I am a beginner , M'am, can i do Decoupage on rocks for the first time?Kindly Reply.Thank U!
I will never think of a rock the same way. They are beautiful. I only have one question... what do you do with all those rocks after they have been so beautiful decorated? If I give them as presents, what are they good for. That is my only worry.
I love your videos and the techniques you use for decoupaging rocks! I used your technique on large garden stones and they turned out really nice. I used matte ModPodge. I was going to give several of these as Christmas gifts and I wanted to spray a UV clear coat to protect them from the elements. Now I’m reading that the rocks have to cure four 4 weeks or more before I can spray on the clear coat, which means they won’t be ready in time. 😕Do you always let your rocks cure 4 weeks before spraying on a sealant?
Hi Carey! No I don’t wait 4 weeks because I don’t use Mod Podge as a top coat or sealant. Mod Podge does take up to 4 weeks to cure. Use a clear spray-on that should be ready for outdoors in a week. Rustoleum makes one with a uva protectant. - Joan 🙂
Thank you this was a lovely demonstration. I tried decoupage a couple years ago without knowing what I was doing and it turned out pretty good. I will try it again and with your tips it will be more fun and smoother.
I don’t have enough experience with photos on rocks that will be left out in the elements for long periods of time. I can tell you that the photo will need to be printed onto a decoupage paper or gift wrap tissue paper and probably best to seal with resin. Again I don’t have much experience with this. I have never done one. Good luck. Joan 🙂
Hi! I’m not sure about embedding in a cement stone but that’s an interesting idea. I have put rocks in my garden but they do fade after awhile, even with sealant they don’t last . I do it anyway 🙂 ❤️
Oh my goodness..i love this..am so thankful we've got a gazillion river rocks perfect for these projects...AND I have 2 big containers decopodge and outdoor sealant...brushes and tons of magazines with beautiful picture to choose from...i will put decopodge onto the picture..then when dried I will rub the ticker paper so can have a thin layer to paste onto the rocks...but can you make an illustration how to do this?... It's something needed for thick magazine paper.
I'm going to paint a lot of pretty rocks to place around the cemetery where my mom is..space them all around so others can find enjoy them for mothers day..and flag or military ones for the cemetery on labor or veterans day...just hope some hoarders won't grab them all up... When we held my mom's service I was pleasantly surprised by having beautify painted rocks right near her plot...some were even fabric cut out that had me fooled thinking an awesome artist had painted rocks left for others to enjoy...my siblings all got a rock that we've treasured for the last few years...so there's a great place to share these wonderful treasures given from the heart
Hi! I loved reading your comments! Tom Shaw I think has a video on making thick paper thinner for decoupage. Rocks are wonderful to paint and leave around for others to find. They can bring joy and comfort to those who find them! Thank you for the lovely comments, it made my day! 🙂❤️
Emily Gregory hi! Mod Podge is a brand of decoupage glue that you can use as I did in this video. You can use regular white school glue too but you would need to add a little water! Thank you for watching my video and I hope you’ll give it a try! 🙂
Do you purchase the flat rocks, or collect them on beaches?? If purchased, could you please leave a message on where you buy them? I love your rocks and would love to start making some.
patti vargas vargas Hi! I get my rocks from all over the place!! I have bought them at the big home improvement stores and if you live near a landscape supply store that is where you can find a big selection of rocks for very little money. Makisha Davis Napkins work the best because they are so thin. Paper is thicker and does not saturate like a napkin or adhere to a rock in the same way. Having said all that, give it a try! 🙂
Simply beautiful, do you have a favorite label you put on the back of rocks you hide? Thank you for sharing your talent with everyone,. love the Santa rock, what great and unique gift to give this time of year. Would magazine photos work well with your techniques?
Denese Harris Thank you for the kind words! When I hide rocks I usually put the hashtag of the kindness rock group on the back. Sometimes I put nothing at all as it’s not that important to me that my rocks get found and posted on Facebook as long as someone does find it. Magazine papers are thicker than tissue, I rarely use it but many others do. Maybe put a couple extra coats of sealant if hiding outside. You probably won’t need the plastic wrap, just smooth it down with your fingers. Rocks make fabulous gifts for family and friends, etc. I give them all the time! Let me know how things go! Merry Christmas!
I don't think you turn it up in order for it to be louder for us. I think you turn it down so when we turn it up, it makes your soft voice have more of a chance to be amplified when we adjust our volume.

I use a clear spray sealant by Rustoleum or Krylon to protect from the weather. If its staying inside then Mod Podge is fine. 🙂

Cobblestone
