Curt, loving the series! Would love to see an episode on batteries and possibly have you talk about your battery consumption (daily/weekly) & why you chose the 800 amp hours and the 1000 solar.
ditto! Really interested in how your performance is going with your elec. build as far as power consumption @ max usage. It sounded like you had the AC running during the making of this video.
Your van and UA-cam videos are my absolute favorite I’ve seen. And I’ve seen a lot. You’ve convinced me to get an awd Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivan lol. I would like a van as nice as yours but lbr. I’m a fair weather traveler who will get bored with traveling after 2 years. So you’ve really highlighted how it’s not worth it for me to build a van out. The hybrid will let me camp sometimes with air condition during the night. Thanks so much for your vids.
That sounds so amazing... keep us posted on how it goes once you get in the hybrid!! Fulltime forever van life is for sure not for everyone, but it is so great! CHEERS!
A bluetti Ac200 cost 1200 -1500 (depending on when you ordered it via indiegogo) . It has a 2000 watt inverter, 1.7kwh battery, and charge controller built in. If you want get two of them. 400 watts of solar costs roughly 900 . 800 watts, 1800. I'm looking at the 190 watt rigid body grape panels. I don't know how much cables cost but can't be that much. Thats a sweet electrical setup for roughly 2 grand for the small setup and 4 grand for the bigger. Plug N Play as well.
Hi! This was so interesting! The electrical part is so overwhelming. Watching your videos always helps. Always such fun seeing you. So glad you guys are safe and doing well! 😊
These videos are great and so informative. I feel I am back in school trying to remember all the numbers and specifics and can get overwhelmed, thank goodness we can go back and review everything later and write what we need down. :-) Again thanks for sharing all this info. Many who build their vans (who are on youtube), don't want to say exactly what they spent on their vans (I guess if they plan to sell it and make a profit.)
Would like to see the electrical episode, what components did you you use, alternator charging system for lithium battery, schematic and setup of those components. Thank you
We are having detailed plans of our van drawn up now. They will be available in late September if all goes well! You can visit this link and sign up to be notified when we have them ready to go! CHEERS! gem.godaddy.com/signups/adf3b4660dbb42e4a292a5097150ff46/join
Curt, I know I wouldn’t do AGM at this stage of the game. However, I heard from numerous sources that lithium phosphate vs lithium ion batteries are better for the 🌎. I’d be interested to hear what you know abt that. Thnx for doing this pricing for the entire breakdown of your build & options; explains why you didn’t get into it in the van tour. TYVM! You and Snow are great ppl & I’m so happy I discovered this channel before building out a van or hiring someone to do any of it. I still can’t get over how amazing your van is. Thnx too for being so generous w/your knowledge abt the techs & style. I love that torquoise w/the greys. Those two colors have been pulling at me & my husband lately.
Good series! It would help if you provided more still shots of the different components like you did on the alternator. A video on the batteries would be helpful to many.
I have no interest in batteries but still I listened... 🤷🏽♀️ Really enjoy you both. If you make it to NZ one day, reach out if you want a local hello!
Yeah a dedicated battery video would be excellent! You should school everyone on the different chemistry types as well. I would hate to see someone get used Tesla cells for a cheap price without them knowing the safety concerns I have with them vs say lithium ferro phosphate that will not thermal runaway and case a fire.
How did you come up with how big and how many batteries and solar panel you need to power everything in your van. My wife and I are working on our van build and we are stuck on the solar system Please help!
First, come up with a list of all items in your van that will draw power and write their max watts next to them. Then, from that list, come up with anything that may run at the same time and add up those watts... that will help you decide what size inverter to get. Then email us at info@thechilldaze.com and lets see where you are!
I remember that you said in one of your first few videos that you were having trouble supplying enough power to the van. I presumed you solved this with the addition of the second alternator. I always wondered what was consuming all your juice. I figured it was the oven and the AC. Back to the alternator: more info would be much appreciated. Is it a Nations alternator set up? Brand and where you had it done would be very helpful.
I’m sure your warranty is out the window if the second alternator belt wears a hole thru your hose and the engine overheats and gets destroyed and that happens with these things especially with the pro master.I haven’t heard of as big a problem with the Mercedes.
As a world traveler, y would surely know best about my concerns. I'm building in the US and will live here for 2 more years. Then, I'll move to the EU (220v). How should I go about on my electrics/solar for an easier conversion when time comes?
@@SnowAndCurt luvk you! Love your setup and your videos! I passed it to some guys that build working vans; they'll help me install the Rec Shower based on y videos
Where did you learn how to build your camper van? All of the carpentry work, electrical, everything? You surely didn’t just watch a UA-cam video on van campers. How much skill did you possess BEFORE even thinking about building a van camper.
We agree! 99% release date of October 1. But, we know you are waiting on them... send us an email at info@thechilldaze.com and we will see what we can do. The legal is almost done, but now having to build the online platform to sell them.
Maybe... but, to be clear, it is not your typical alternator... designed originally for large speed boats... it will charge our house batteries up pretty dang quick... The size of the alternator also required large (expensive) wiring that runs from the front of the van to the back where the battery bank is... so, we do not feel we overpaid! We are aware that there are much cheaper options out there, but in this case, size mattered! LOL
Always good content from Curt and Snow!!

Second alternator is an awesome idea 👌
it is a great way to charge up... especially if you are driving anyway!

Wish we would have documented the build better... Pics and video, but we didn't! 😔
Really loving the series Snow & Curt .Greetings from New Zealand🇳🇿👍
Happy you like it... thanks for tuning in!
Thank you again for this information, very clear and even I understand, so you did a good job 😉, greetings from Kos in Greece

Yep... Nations
Great Job Kurt! One question. Did Mercedes put in your second alternator source ? If not, does DIY effect the Mercedes warranty?
Ditto, Curt
I’m sure your warranty is out the window if the second alternator belt wears a hole thru your hose and the engine overheats and gets destroyed and that happens with these things especially with the pro master.I haven’t heard of as big a problem with the Mercedes.
We were told "no".... doesn't seem to be anywhere the second belt is rubbing. Either way, we hope we do not have to tackle that problem!
Thanks a lot. Appreciate the response. Can’t wait to see your new location.

We did not worry about conversions... We will never need to plug in to shore power, so it did not matter to us.

The advantage of lithium batteries is clear. Is no point in my opinion to talk about AGM. Any news on the book/plans? Thank you.

Nice set up! I have similar- had to bite my cheek to pay $$$ but it works great :)
It's worth the price! ☺️🚐
Episode of batteries 🔋
On the list!
Yes, please more battery info. Thanks
