This was bassist, John Deacon’s first hit song and was his second composition. He wrote this for his wife and wanted the electric piano. Freddie refused to play the electric piano so John took it home and taught himself how to play it within a few days.
Great info, I never knew that, thank you. As much as I love Asia and BJ's reactions, I also love the facts, stories, and experiences from all of you that have much more knowledge than I do about most of these bands and songs. I could absolutely see Freddie not being on board with playing the electric piano, but I have no doubt that once John said "This is the song and it'll work," Freddie probably nodded and said "I'll commit to it 100% and give it my all then."
This song really showcased the versatility of Queen. This was the follow up to "Bohemian Rhapsody". It showed that Queen were capable of different sounds and feelings as Queen were new to most of the US audience.
When I hear that opening organ, I'm instantly transported to 6 years of age. Elementary school. It's kind of wild, in retrospect, how many pop songs were played in our schools back then. Queen, The Carpenters, Chicago, so many other bands, could write songs that were family-friendly with a positive message.
A favorite Queen song! John Deacon wrote this for wife Veronica and r still married nearly 50 years and 6 kids later. This song has been featured in commercials and movies so not surprised it sounds familiar. Lovely song... thank you Asia & BJ! Great choice youtube friends
This song gives me warm fuzzies, “I’m happy at home .. “. The song has been featured in commercials, TV shows, & film. Notably in The Break-Up, Shaun Of The Dead, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Secret Life Of Pets, etc. one of my favorite compositions by John Deacon! Another John song is SPREAD YOUR WINGS 🦋🦋
There are so many great things about Queen, but one of the things that stood out to me while watching this video, is the background vocals. I can't think of another rock band that had better background vocals than these guys.
I love this song. It's just such a mellow vibe and it celebrates the sweetness of a loving friendship. John wrote this for his fiance at the time and they've been married for 48 years and have six children. Funny aside: Roger hated singing the lyric "I'm happy at home." He was a player, not a homebody. 🙂
HEYYY GUYS! I LOVE this song! Bass player John Deacon wrote this for his wife Valerie… They’re STILL married after all these years, with six children! …And did you notice it was bass player John who was playing the keyboards? ALL the guys could play multiple instruments: On the studio version of “Who Wants To Live Forever?” John plays the string cello bass… …On the song “Cool Cat”, John plays ALLLL the instruments! (One of my FAVORITE songs… It’s the one currently being featured in that Amazon commercial: The teenage girl orders the yellow Freddie Mercury jacket and wears it to school, dancing around the halls/classroom? …The song had such a “funky, Motown” feel, Brian May & Roger Taylor didn’t like it and basically “boycotted” playing on it… Thus, John & Freddie recording the whole thing themselves!) ANYWAY (sorry for the ramble!) …”You’re My Best Friend” is my husband’s & my “official couple song”; married over 25 years now!
Awww, this is such a sweet song, and I loved your reaction. I love the two of your relationship and how you are best friends. That’s how it is with my hubby and I☺️
i also didn't know it was a queen song until' i became a big fan and was checking out all of their music videos. i had heard it in a commercial before and would never have guessed that it was by them. the song came out in 1975.
I'm a bass player, so, I always pay spacial attencion to what bass players do. I would never be able to create such a masterpiece :') What a great song by John Deacon. :D
My second favorite song of one of the best bass player in the world mr John Deacon himself , the lyrics during entire song are so magical , it was the first time i saw John playing with piano , very talented person he is 🙂 , also big shout out goes to Brian , Freddie and Roger , all three of them did great job with their own solos 🙂 beautiful musical energy over the years 🙂 i would like more of Queen youngest music days in both of your amazing musical channel , please make a reaction to the beautiful song which was written by Freddie in 1976 , it's called Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy 🙂
From Rags To Rhapsody" documentary: That line, "happy at home"... I can remember Roger going: "I don't want that fucking line on here! We're not singing 'happy at home', for fuck's sake! It's rock and roll! What is this? The Women's Institute?" Lol!! 🤣‼ "Well, Freddie didn’t like the electric piano, so I took it home and I started to learn on the electric piano and basically that's the song that came out, you know, when I was learning to play piano. It was written on that instrument and it sounds best on that, you know, often on the instrument that you wrote the song on." John Deacon - 24/12/1977, BBC Radio One.
It's been 4 years on February-18 since my furmate died but, this song always makes me think of my dog. He saved me from myself and the death of 2 close friends and my parents. Now I just feel alive but, lost.
The intro was used in a Carnival Cruise commercial. My husband and I wanted this to be our wedding song, but we weren’t really dancers and it was a little too fast and bouncy for us. Instead we walked into the reception hall to it. If you’re curious, our wedding song was I Live My Life For You by Firehouse. You should listen to it someday. Maybe do a wedding song live stream.
Written by the bassist, John Deacon for his wife. John also wrote Spread your wings, another one bites the dust, I want to break free and others. You're my best friend is from the same album containing bohemian rhapsody, A night at the opera from 1975!
Great Queen tunes. When this album came out the record company said this song will be the first single, but Queen said no, we’re releasing Bohemian Rhapsody as the first single.
This whole album is great. You should check out "Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon", a very different type of song done in an old style format. "Death On Two Legs" is a real good one also that Freddie wrote about their original manager who he felt screwed them over.
You know you got lucky in the band member lottery when the silent, reserved guy no one pays attention to, suddenly slaps a number one hit song like this on the table. I don’t know that people fully appreciate how rare and unusual this is: All four members wrote huge hit songs for the band. The closest comparison I can come with off the top of my mind, is The Beatles, and how George Harrison blossomed into almost an equal to his more famous songwriting band mates.
I’ve come back to say that I’ve just watched an incredible performance by Freddie and Brian.... “Love of my Life”....Queen Live in Wembley Stadium 11th July 1986 (4K-60FPS)...posted by Alex....you won’t be disappointed🤩
Written by John, who taught himself how to play the electronic piano, which Fred just couldn't get on with, and it's for and about John's wife, who he's still with and they had six children and still live in the same house in London which he bought with one of the big cheques from Queen in the early days
I’m confused, are you saying there was no video for this song? This video was released in May 1976 and was the second single off of A Night At The Opera released in November 1975. Normally the videos lagged behind the album and single releases, especially back in the 1970s and early 1980s before MTV.
@@humphr1d there wasn't what ever this is wasn't there when song was originally released the only vid from this album that isn't a live performance was for bohemian rapsady

I was watching this video and thinking about all the things that I wanted to bring up and say to you guys about this music and I'll be damned if BJ didn't say most of it for me LOL. So in the world of rock music it seems a special band or singer will come along and just wow the world for a decade or two... Some of the ones that you just can't deny is you know starting in the 50s what's a Elvis Presley what are unique voice and you just knew he was something special and he's not one of my personal favorites but I got to give him credit you know the 50s to 60s the 70s he really dominated... That in the sixties you had the Beatles and you just couldn't deny what they did to the whole world it was amazing the songwriting The melodies the harmonies it was all there they changed everything they changed music they changed fashion. Then by the late sixties and early seventies The Beatles were done still around you know that with a lot of hair play on the radio and such but they made room for bands like led Zeppelin who took over in the late sixties and then played on through to the seventies and even the 80s before they kind of fizzled out a bit but my God they're still around just phenomenal musicians you know. They dominated just plain and simple. Then in the 70s you get to the eagles, there's no way to compete with their songwriting melodies and vocal harmonies not to mention the musicianship and they dominated the the radio for several years in the 1970s the 80s the 90s and then got the band all back together in the 2000 or as they said when hell freezes over. Cleaned also started in the mid 70s ..80s and 90s.. and then along comes journey in the early 80s and just again dominated radio play until the mid-90s I would say I think.. in my opinion the bands that I just mentioned are just the top of the top cream-of-the-crop. Sorry I'm long-winded but I just had to say all that.
