The most shocking thing out of this whole video was how well behaved you guys were during the etiquette curveball, cause I gotta say I was hoping for a myriad of foul play and sabotage but in the end I was pleasantly disappointed.
i was expecting two of them to team up against the other, but, of course, anyone who proposes the plan may also be turned against, so, as you said, MAD
me to. i only don't understand them going to New York for a food battle about Japanese food. Go to Tokyo there you are more close to the source of the Japanese kitchen.
I'd love to see you guys do a colab with a history focused channel of some sort, maybe Townsends or something, and do a cooking battle without using any modern technology.
Weird thing about Barry is that the more stressed out he is, the less control he has over his mouth. His enunciation just went out the window this battle and in the end-screen blooper he dribbled everywhere. CONTROL YOURSELF, BARRY!
That may have been because he sneaked a little too much sake to calm his nerves! It'd also explain his breach when he flicked Jamie's tempura leaf off the plate!
Mike did not get enough credit for those Mochi icecream balls. I tried to make them a couple of days ago, mostly because they looked fancy, and after 6 hours of trying I gave up. Mochi is the worst thing I have ever tried to work with. It's the stickiest substance on earth! I swear NASA has looked into using it instead of bolts and welds on their spaceship. I had to spend 15 minutes desperate attempting to clean off my hands, and my spoons are still not clean after 3 rounds in the washing machine. But you know what it doesn't stick to? Itself! So while you're sweating and swearing to make the damn thing close on itself, the icecream has long since melted in the middle. I have never had this much problems with one of your recipes before, and I have never given up on a technique or dish. But here I'm capitulating. Well done Mike
Excludos lol, when Mike said he “dusted” with cornstarch my whole family was horrified. We use so much corn or potato starch you can’t see the counter! Tons of starch which you dust off later is the key!
Probably didn't use enough potato or cornstarch. If you ever try again, just cover everything(incl. your hands) in starch and it's pretty easy. Like seriously use so much starch that you think "this is fucking crazy, this can't be right" that's how much you need😂
A show where what Barry achieves here is unironically described as "very simple", means you have to stop calling yourselves NORMALS! Kudos to Barry I say - nowhere to hide - hands down the winner.
Wow! First time in a while that all three blew me away. REALLY well done Barry, I thought you were just asking for trouble with trying to recreate such skill but you did amazingly! IMO though... Mike definitely won this one. The flavor pairing with the saké was so on point, the sakura blossom was my favorite touch. All in all though like the boys said, everyone did incredible! ♥️ Can't wait to see more
That's going to be hard for those guys to keep that! Imagine if one of the curveballs involved the chattiest one being silent 15 min straight and the rudest one not being sassy for 15 min LOL that would be weird actually and probably very boring! Yet funny at the same time.
I think this is one of my favorite episodes from you guys yet. I loved how everyone challenged themselves, everyone was actually so polite about the curveball (i.e. no one used it to terribly mess with the others) and everyone has made an amazing dish (from what it looks like on the screen)
Jamie's plating was amazing this battle, with what looked like a great execution of pairing oil finger foods with alcohol which always go great together.
By quality of food and how everyone pulled it out of the bag this may be the best one so far all three looked incredible and they were all really successful too!! Well done lads
I think Jamie deserve the win this battle. He was very clever in his fusion dish. Every element has Japanese flavour in it that made sense. His plating looks great too. You guys do #ad so well it doesn’t even feel like an ad.
Guys, this episode’s curveball was just so much fun to watch 😂 Also, I wish I could try all of those dishes 😍 Especially Barry’s sashimi looked insane. Can’t wait for the chef vs chef battle because James gets so sassy when he’s competing with Ebbers and Sassy James is my favourite James 😍😂
I love watching what the fellas get silly in the background behind backs. I started watching Sorted a week or so ago after my 15 hour ER shifts and you guys have been making these sad, tired shift ends turn right around! Thankyou for even existing right now and all the smiles you've given me!
I'm not sure what your point is? If someone recreates a Mechlin star dish that doesn't mean that dish is worthy of a Michelin star. Obviously, Baz did a damn good job.
Brilliant video guys! Barry, you were very brave with what you did and it's such a shame there had to be a third place because they all looked fantastic. Can't wait to see the next installment!
Curveball idea: Swap a key or centered ingredient out with a cheaper alternative: I.e. instant coffee for espresso beans, haddock/pollock for lobster/crab, imitation vanilla extract for vanilla bean. etc etc.
This, hands down, is one of the best episodes you have ever done! All three dishes looked amazing! The effort Jamie, Mike, and Barry put in to them was outstanding and I could tell they were all pleased with what they made. If I were awarding brownie points, it would be a three way tie for first and each would get 3 points! Simply awesome!
Mah-chi, mah-chi, mah-chi....I did so many quadruple takes because, I had never heard it pronounced that way...and as an American I am also very sure I have never heard it the proper way yet still.
okay, I've never been this conflicted about the winner. Those tempura looks amazing (it's just a little cringy when he pronounced it), mochi ice cream is my favourite Japanese dessert, and sashimi is my all-time favourite. a job well done, guys! that was amazing, and now i can't wait for the chef vs chef japanese battle! :3
sashimi was the best, no doubt, the knife skill really showed. Also the flavors are way more complex than the other two. For the visual aspect the match is between the tempura and the sashimi, but judging by the theme, the sashimi looks a bit more Japanese.
Or, you have to ask someone else taste your dish before seasoning it, and season according to their feedback. So even if the taster does lie, you can still be somewhat reasonable with the seasoning. Maybe.
Next curveball suggestion: There's a random condiments/ingredients and they'll pick it whilst blindfolded. Or the fast answer game They'd answer right away the first ingredient they could think off from a random letter you say
It’s the first time to hear that amount of Japanese word in cooking video, you guys covered quite a wide range from home cooking food to restaurants!! Sakura taste sweets(even Starbucks) are now on season and Shiso tempura is really amazing. I’m literally so impressed!
I was so confused when I saw the pickled ginger with the dessert. Would've been better with the sashimi (also, no idea why no one thought to use rice).
I think this is my favorite ultimate food battle so far. It's amazing to see these guys show off their technical skill with these dishes. I mean, all of cooking is quite technical, but just as they learned throughout the video, Japanese cuisine is a whole other level of technical and each dish is so beautifully done.
I cannot deal with how much I love you guys - special mention to James !! Love every single video you’re content is the best please don’t ever stop making videos!!
Sake is my favorite alcohol. We always have a carton around. Last year I got the most exquisite sake set for our anniversary. It's amazing, and I finally truly understood something about Japanese cuisine. The role of esthetics. Taking the time to enjoy something in a beautiful vessel, designed for that exact purpose does elevate the experience. I've turned into one of those people that fawns over tea cups.
Another amazing video!! Absolutely love love love mochi ice cream! One of my favorite desserts second only to mostachon (wich yall should totally make one day!)
Japanese cuisine is my favorite so I’m loving this little series. Those all look so good 😭😭 you guys seriously have the dream career here on UA-cam. Messing around with friends and enjoying good food
Poor Barry😂😂. Helping everyone else except himself..
Hilarious that Jamie and Mike didn't trust each other for the important steps, only poor Barry 😂 and then Barry got last place!
That's because he was either talking too much or really fixated on his garnishes. He spent more time on those garnishes then the actual sashimi.
The most shocking thing out of this whole video was how well behaved you guys were during the etiquette curveball, cause I gotta say I was hoping for a myriad of foul play and sabotage but in the end I was pleasantly disappointed.
MAD Mutually Assured Destruction. Saves lives, and dishes.

Mike : *BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH*

Im actually really proud of Barry for taking on this challenge. He may not of done the greatest, but he still did amazing
I'm so excited for the chef vs chef battle!!
Can't wait
me to. i only don't understand them going to New York for a food battle about Japanese food. Go to Tokyo there you are more close to the source of the Japanese kitchen.
sirBrouwer, my guess is they were going to New York to film other videos so this was just a nice addition to what was already planned.
@@nanoflower1 that could work.
It is also probably easier and cheaper to go to new york instead of japan

Sorry. Nitpicking. But I had to. Much love.
@@thebigh4752 edited. Thanks for the catch.
I have never seen Mike look so concerned than when Barry started talking about sashimi..
The second-hand anxiety was too real.
I'd love to see you guys do a colab with a history focused channel of some sort, maybe Townsends or something, and do a cooking battle without using any modern technology.
That's an awesome idea!
They did cook with limited technology during their camping trip
Do it with English Heritage channel and Mrs Crocombe!!
Brilliant idea!
New curveball suggestion: the guys have to use their non-dominant hand for an unspecified amount of time.
I think that should only be done when they don't have to cut something... otherwise they might accidentally hurt themselves
@@naosuki Screwball before they plate the dishes. :p
Lanka Cajan a screwball and a curveball are two totally different things

Mike staring at the camera from behind Jamie as Jamie talks about his sake is everything
Barry: **reveals plan for dish **
Mike and Jamie: **shocked expressions**
Mike: "I'm GUARANTEED second place!!!"
Well, he wasn't wrong.
Ben: "You all went into lockdown."
2020: "Ummm, let me show you something..."
This battle showed so much skill, I'm starting to question your status of normal.

You probably didn't use enough cornstarch to dust it. Plus, you have to clean the spoons and stuff by hand, washing machines don't cut it.
Maybe your spoons weren't clean because you were using your washing machine. I'd recommend using the dishwasher instead
Perhaps you didn't cook it enough? Because it really does need to come together from cooking. Well done even trying, though!!
Sashimi platter, Japanese fish & chips and mochi ice cream - come on, it's not a battle, it's a perfect meal 🤤
I was thinking the same.
Barry's dish was my favorite and Mike is my favorite. His reactions are the best!
That Mike laugh behind Jamie was amazing 😂
Agreed but is also nightmare fuel
Mike is totally a goof ball during the whole video. His face gestures makes the video most funny
Oooooo look at you boys lookin' all professional in your matchy-matchy aprons!!! They're so adorkable I feel like it had to be Ben's idea.
