    I was well on my way to developing a restaurant concept of my own a few years back, having held nearly every position you could want in a kitchen through various cuisines, but suddenly took a sharp left-turn into technology development in 2017, seriously screwing up my whole flow. I've always found joy in watching the SORTEDfood videos, but for some reason this one in-particular got me all emotional as I realized I'm definitely not chasing my passion in life right now; I should be burning my hands in a kitchen in New York, enjoying the beauty of food itself & meeting new people every night instead of sitting in front of a computer all on my lonesome curating content for a damned music platform. I've got to thank you guys for leading me back where I belong - With any luck, I'll be there this time next year, happy as a clam

    Ben really shines in this episode, his enthusiasm for food, his ability to pick out various flavors within a dish and eloquently lay them out in a way that makes sense, his rather adorable charm (though I might be a bit bias).
    The friendship Barry and Jamie have is in full view here with the charming jabs, the silly back and forth, Barry hand feeding Jamie french fries, it was all lovely to see.
    James and his observant, meticulous qualities, and how the pairings really seemed to grow on him was really nice to see.
    -and I'll fully admit, Ben's "can I have a kiss" line made my cheeks redden a bit.

    New curveball idea: chefs have to cook without hand tools, normies have to cook with a recipe written in Japanese.

    • @Reyn_Roadstorm
      @Reyn_Roadstorm 5 років тому +54

      Just straight up Japanese would be too tough. maybe a recipe that's gone through Google translate from English to Japanese back to English however... Well just look at the difference when I did that with the first shrimp fettuccine alfredo recipe from Google.
      Original: Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain. In a large skillet, cook and stir shrimp and garlic in the butter for about one minute. Pour in half and half; stir. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese in one tablespoon at a time, stirring constantly. After all Parmesan is added, mix in parsley and salt. Stir frequently making sure it does not boil. Sauce will take a while to thicken. When sauce has thickened, combine with cooked pasta noodles; serve hot.
      E to J to E translated: Boil brine with big salt. Add pasta for 8 to 10 minutes, or cook until al dente is made. drain. Cook and shrimp and garlic in butter for about 1 minute in a large frying pan. Pour in half. mix. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese at a time with a spoonful and stir constantly. Add all Parmesan and mix with parsley and salt. Stir frequently so as not to boil. It will take some time for the source to thicken. When sauce becomes dense, please match with pasta noodles cooked. Become hot.

    • @ElijahAhSha
      @ElijahAhSha 5 років тому +17

      @@Reyn_Roadstorm Going from English to Japanese back to English would be awesome. It's usable, but only just and definitely requires you to look over every step to make sure you understand what it's asking. Maybe even doing a second translate to Japanese and then back to English to make it even worse.
      E to J to E to J to E translated: Boil salt water with big salt. Add pasta for 8 to 10 minutes, or cook until al dente is made. drain. Stir in butter in a large frying pan for about 1 minute, simmer shrimp and garlic. Pour in half. mixture. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese at once and stir constantly. Add all Parmesan and mix parsley and salt. Stir frequently so as not to boil. It will take a while for the source to become thick. When sauce becomes dense, please match with pasta noodles cooked. It gets hot.

    • @Reyn_Roadstorm

    Always enjoy your videos (I'm a fairly recent subscriber) and just wanted to say that I got hooked because of Ultimate Battles, but I honestly enjoy all of the more recent formats (as opposed to the shorter/older ones that are just recipes). One suggestion on this video is to be clearer about the names of the sakes when referring to them in your answers because Japanese names are harder for non-speakers to learn/remember, and this is from an avid sushi lover. I couldn't keep track of the sake names and which was 1, 2, 3, etc. in your responses without the bottle or name shown at the same time.

    Love this weeks long dedicated videos! Truly gives the cuisine the kind of respect and attention it deserves.
    P.S. Ben seemed just as uncomfortable talking about feral sake as the rest did listening to it 😂

    Gentlemen, I am so happy to be able to say that I’ve been to Osamil, and my goodness the restaurant is an absolute dime. Food, services, the gosh darn indulgent pork shank. Oh my god the pork shank. Proper knocked me on my ass with flavor... I’ve gone there three times now and for a birthday, and I couldn’t have been happier. Hope you guys come into the NYC/NJ area sometime soon! There’s plenty more to be had! If you guys are ever in the NJ area, come to Fort Lee and I guarantee you’ll be happy with your meals!

    The only two sakes I’m used to is the one I keep for cooking (esp. braising) and the one my mom gets for New Years. You’d think being Japanese I’d have extensive knowledge but sake never seemed like much to me. Until recently, and esp. from this video. I took screenshots when the video had the sake and the notes I’d think I’d like most, and hopefully soon I’ll be able to try. Awesome video, humorous and so entertaining, better than tv series lately. Good job, and THANK YOU for taking the time to pronounce it right, accent aside, I can’t stand when people call it “Sah-kee.”
