Very cool! It’s really great that MC restored these old locos and have put them back in service. Great job on the video as well. You captured some wonderful angles.
GREAT SHOTS, Mike! We did make it down for Railfan’s Day this year; took the 1 PM train out of Bourne, & the return trip at 4:30 PM out of Hyannis. Saw quite a few railfans at some of the spots you posted (I think I might have spotted you at the Canal Overlook on the return trip). Talking to one of the Mass Coastal employees next to the engine house in Hyannis, I told them one thing that they could do to improve the Railfan’s Day would be to do PHOTO RUNBYS! 😊 Tom
For special events they need to borrow a Hancock Air Whistle to complete the New Haven feel. Before anyone comments about it the Hancock Whistle with the reflector dish does just barely meet current legal requirements if it is properly cleaned with full main reservoir air pressure.
Both units were stored out of service (but complete) for almost 10 years before MC got them. They were able to reactivate them in 2018 and last year 2011 was repainted. 2026 is up next for the same treatment and the third FL9, 2027, will be restored and painted in Cape Cod Central colors. 2027 will also be renumbered to its original number 2015 which happens to line up with MC’s own number series of freight engines.
so beautiful, hope to take this train/tour soon
