  • This is the beginning of the series on learning Serbian language. I will try to make something that no one has made so far… that is, the complete tutorial on how to learn Serbian language. Before diving in this lesson, I’ll have to suggest you something you should do in order to have the best results in studying Serbian and learn it as quick as possible. You should buy 3 blank notebooks and use them as following: In the first one you should practice writing Serbian alphabet by writing a single letter on a page over and over again, not only to memorize how to write it but more importantly to associate it with the sound it represents. So, for example, when you write letter A, you should say out loud A every time you write it. This way, you not only train your hand but also practice pronunciation as well. You should watch my previous video on Serbian Cyrillic stroke order where I pronounce every letter and show you how to write it. Then, second notebook you should use as a dictionary. This is a great way to learn words really quickly not only in Serbian, but in any language. Whenever you see the word you don’t know, you write it in your dictionary and write the translation right next to it. This way you are having two benefits. You are practicing that word by writing it in your dictionary and also even more importantly, you are creating concise dictionary you can use to quickly remind yourself only with words you learned so far. You won’t need to spend as much time going through a big dictionary only to find something that you already covered. And finally, in the last one you should practice writing examples of some particular sentences we are covering at the moment. Even though you might understand everything during these lessons, by using these notebooks you will reduce the time drastically you spend on memorizing these linguistic elements.

Hi, this is the best video I've come across. I have Serbian heritage but wasn't taught to speak it. I should be going to Serbia in the next year or so and would be great to understand. I've always wanted to learn. I was told it was difficult but I don't think it is that bad. Thankyou

      Hey Dean,
thanks for the comment. I am glad you find these videos helpful. I am working on a verb conjugation video right now, so next what we will learn is how to conjugate virtually any verb in present tense. :)
Cheers and have a great day.

I'm currently trying to undertake the Български език and it is amazing to see how similar Serbian is to it. I guess it makes sense with the geographical closeness. It gives you an idea of the impact of linguistic and cultural exchange!

Already speaking Russian at an A2-B1 level, I must say that it is quite
similar. It would probably not be that hard to learn as for someone who
speaks no slavic language I guess :)

    Hello friend!
Your video is very good, you explain very well. Could you post more videos about basic grammar? I read an article by a woman explaining that in the Serbian language there are 7 variations (Genitive, Dative, Instrumental, etc.). Could you explain which cases we foreigners should learn first?
Congratulations on your channel, I hope you post more videos.
    Thank you!
