emtb9111 my mother was a school bus driver for 5+ years in a very wealthy town. While the whole time being a closeted alcoholic.
The school system and towns need much more control over who they hire and background check.

Probably expect to home before the kid got home. I heard of a family who kids were grabbed by CPS because one day they ran late after years of getting there around the same time. Just because the older kid was alone at home for a little while.

Schools are understanding about traffic and such, too. When I was in elementary school, there was a day that the school should have called a snow day but didn't. It was snowing hard and visibility was low. The bus had to go slowly; it was probably 20 minutes late, but my driver hit every one of her stops, because that's what she was supposed to do. No kids got in trouble for being late since the situation couldn't be helped. That's how it should be done.

This bus driver is no longer driving for this school district. This bus driver shouldn't be driving for any school district. He/she should be fired! You don't just decide on your own to just skip stops. If you're running behind, let your dispatcher know and then follow your dispatcher's instructions. Is that so hard? The dispatcher's instructions would've probably been to keep doing the full route. Better late than never.

But as far as I know, there are only a handful. Usually either the school notices and sends another bus, a parent notices their kid coming back and calls the school to get the first result (there were 2 other kids at the stop mentioned, what about their caretaker[s]?), or another bus from the same school that takes the same or a similar route picks up the kids from the stop.

It's infuriating because you've already been waiting a long time, freezing your butt off, and now you have to wait even longer! But for a bus drive to just skip picking up elementary school kids, in freezing weather, because of traffic? Knowing full-well no other bus will be picking those children up. If the school hadn't called the mother, this story could have had a horrible ending.

Also, kids are not very logical, which is why she didn't go looking for an adult first. Her mother didn't prepare her for these situations. She has now. It was a lesson for everyone.

this happened to me when i was 11 I was like 4 houses away from mine i was waiting for my bus. it was -27C without windchill and my bus never showed up i had a group of 3 kids with me and we waited for an hour. We walked to our neighbours house because our locks were frozen and we couldn't open them. we had proper winter clothes on but we were still VERY cold. My neighbour drove my twin brother and I to school. I got to school late and my teacher was very mad. After school i confronted my Bus driver. He never apologized he just yelled "get in your seat". He was never fired, even though everyone hated him.

A house key and a flip phone are essential for every child, especially if they have no one else to depend on... I just wonder why she didn't go to one of the other kids houses so she could at least use the phone to contact her mom or the school. Either way, this was insane! Crazy Bus Driver!

i agree, most kids have a key to the house or know where a key is hidden to use to get inside incase this happens.

People! watch the video all the way before commenting please! For all those wondering why she didn't go to a neighbor, it SAYS that she tried to front and then tried the back and then she couldn't get out of her backyard! She was stuck there! Also as a nine year old I would not go to neighbors because you don't know them that well and frankly it could be a bit sketchy. That would be SUPER scary to a nine year old. She didn't have a phone or a key because she's nine and clearly an only child and you just don't really think about either of those until the child is older. The video says at the end that the other kids got rides from parents and she was the only one stuck outside. Finally, please keep in mind that this is a totally unprecedented thing and i doubt any of you would be thinking "hm maybe I should have a plan in case the bus doesn't come and it's freezing outside and I'm stuck in the backyard at the age of nine"! Just please think it through and have a little empathy!

No Way Please do shut up. I'm not trying to be hostile, but my attitude at how you approach this DESPITE the obvious annoys me. She did not expect this, nor did she plan specifically for this. Think like a child in this situation, then you might understand.

I had a neighbor I was told to go to if something happened on my block, nice old retired grandmother, she lived on our block since my mom was a kid. and I was told that the moment I was old enough to know what trouble was and how to cross the road safely. 😕 so that's what 5 years old?

she should still know how to go to a neighbor for God sake, if you live in a town you know your neighbor, considering you probably run into them every day when heading out to work or in the summer just in your yard

My question is, why didn't his little girl have a key to get in the house? I mean I feel bad for her, but at the same time sometimes bus drivers forget or there's an incident that prevents them from being on time to pick-up kids. The mom could have at least had a key hidden outside in case of a situation like this and she didn't trust her daughter to keep a house key on her.

tendershippingfan1 The moment couldn't have given her daughter the code? Shes 9 and should know how to use a door. If shes old enough to go to the bus stop alone shes old enough to have the code.

    • @Tomb-Wraith
      @Tomb-Wraith 6 років тому

Kazia Thornhill And what happens when that code is spilled out at school in passing conversation? Now the house is vulnerable. It's just as easy to buy a cheap flip phone. All phones are legally required to be able to dial 911 or 411. She could have gotten help

yes it does. It makes perfect sense. What if the bus breaks down and you need to get home? 9 years old is at the point where they should be able to go inside their house. Especially with the temperatures out there.

Our bus was 30minutes late once, I thought I was going to die. This shouldn’t have happened, I can only imagine how awful this would have been.

  • @MissBliss818

The same thing happened to me when I was little. It was below zero and I sat outside waiting for 90 minutes for the bus. I was about her age too and the bus driver skipped route. I got frost bit so badly that I couldn’t play outside during recess for the next month, which felt like punishment. I didn’t realize I was outside for that long and I was also afraid to go back home to tell my mom because I was afraid the bus would come while I walked away and I’d get in trouble. My parents tried taking legal action with the school but nothing came from it. I ended up in the hospital and everything. The bus driver didn’t even get in trouble. But at least the principal apologized to my parents. 😒
