    I love this camera. I think sometimes people want everything and nothing at the same time. There’s a reason why fuji has multiple offerings. Find the one that works best for you. I carry the xe4 as my walk around/street camera. It’s small and the picture quality is amazing. That’s all I need.

      I would recommend setting the front command dial to ISO. That's what I have it set on and it's so enjoyable to shoot with it while holding it to my eye and changing ISO with the front wheel.

    I’m a total beginner. Never shot on anything other than my iPhone and I’ve been in the market for a real camera recently. I thought I had settled on the Fuji X100V since everyone raves about it, but I had a couple of concerns. I was worried the fixed lens would be a limiting factor that my very small degree of experience wouldn’t be able to overcome, and I had seen many reviewers talking about it not being very video friendly since it overheats pretty quickly. The X-E4 seems like the perfect solution. It still has the minimalist approach I was looking for, paired with much better video capability and the ability to change lenses as I grow. Any of its shortcomings seem small and easily overcome via accessories, which are now affordable since on top of everything else, it’s $400 cheaper than the X100V. I think I’ve found my first camera. Thanks for being part of it 🤙🏻

    My XE3 is my go to. I guess I'm a minimalist shooter, I have a couple of manual vintage lenses I use with it and rarely touch a menu, the only thing I'm really actively using are those nice dials. It feels like a throwback to film cameras to use and the fuji colors are great. Perfect travel camera

    The X-E4 has reignited my love for photography. It’s the combination of interesting light & compact design, really great image quality and just great to look at! Lol. Mine is set up exactly like like yours with the thumb grip (tried the screw on handgrip but kind of prefer the simplicity without) and using the XF 18mm f2 and XF 27mm f2.8. I’m looking around for an affordable XF 50mm f2.
    I have also used an adapter to fit my beautiful Pentax Limited lenses that also have aperture rings. 31mm f1.8, 43mm f1.9 and 77mm f1.8. They make beautiful photos on this camera.
    In fact I like to design and Fuji ethos so much it’s lead me to snap up an X-E1 with the 1st generation X-Trans sensor. It’s auto focus is slower, EVF refresh slower and overall less responsive but it too is a joy to use. The button placement on the X-E1 and X-E2 is much, much better, there’s more of them and they are bigger so conversely the older models are more comfortable in use. The early X-Trans sensor gives a warmer tone, slightly more contrasty image which is appealing but perhaps less accurate than this latest sensor.

    Great video thanks for the content. I watched a couple of UA-cam videos before buying this and kept looking/ comparing to the x100v. So I went with my gut feel and pushed the button and bought this with mixed emotions. Well I glad I went with my gut as I love it. It’s great for street as it’s so small. And I can use other Fuji lenses. I bought it with the 27mm lens so perfect combination. Love it 😍

    Hi - I own a XE4 for a couple of weeks now - and I simply love it. Coming from a Fuji S5Pro I did love for the colors then Nikon DX (7200) that I bought for the speed (but never gave me so much feel in the pictures as the S5) I am now happy with the XE4 as I have never been before with a camera. It gives me extremely nice Jpgs OOC using even more and better film simulation the S5pro had with the same speed as the D7200. And the additional advantage of the excellent Fuji lenses and a lightweight body. And the cherry on the cake is the fantastic design, it is - as you were saying in the video - everytime I see it on the side I want to pick it up and want to take fotos. I cannot agree more :-) -
    Compliments for a nice and professional video reflecting my thoughts and feelings!

    I’ve had the X-E4 for 10 months, selling off and switching from Olympus. I started with the 27 kit lens, 18mm f2, 15-45 & 55-200 zooms. I quickly added the 14mm 2.8, 16-80mm & Viltrox 56. I love the camera but I’m still learning the system. I shoot travel (which has been stopped due to Covid) Theatre (my work) and family. I love the camera and the Fujifilm products. I bought an XT-200 as a backup and an extra UA-cam studio camera that I’m in the process of setting up. ( FYI: only the X-E4 kit, the Viltrox and the 16-80 (on sale)were new. I have done some local neighborhood and park shooting with the kit, 18, 15-45 & 14. I shot a family wedding with the 16-80, and family with the kit, 18, Viltrox . For my theatre, it is the 16-80, 56 and mostly the 55-200. All in all it is a great system. I tried a third party grip but it chaffed my fingers with the 55-200 so I got Fuji’s grip and thumb rest and that made a big difference. I don’t need the selector switch as I never used or had it before so I am doing more with less. I wasn’t sure about the missing back dial/ button but I’m adjusting. I love the size and portability with all the image quality remaining intact. I like your channel. Keep up the work.

    I've been looking at this camera the last few weeks. It's intriguing. I LOVE my GR2 as my take everywhere camera but in low-light/night time situations it gets frustrating for the way I want to shoot. Plus I've always been interested in trying Fuji, the x100V seems perfect but this feels like great/cheaper option as well.

    Thanks for this video! I'm looking at the X-E4 as an upgrade to my X-T20. My feeling is I want a smaller offering than the X-T20 for most time, and a "bigger" camera for more serious stuff, like the X-T4. I love the X100 but want interchangeable lenses.

      Thank you for the like... 9 months later.... 😂 I did indeed grab an x-e4, and it has indeed been fantastic. Absolutely love everything about it, except the size of the raw files. I used to shoot raw for absolutely everything, but the hit to my storage is too much. I shoot JPG now for almost everything (and the JPG's are great), except travel photography, where I'll still shoot raw.

    I love this camera. I had a Fuji X-T30 and Nikon Z6 prior and as a beginner it was intimidating and with all of its functionality overwhelming. The question was, what was I trying to do and since purchasing the X-E4 I've established a flow and an enjoyment in photography I didn't find before. X-E4 over 100V any day of the week "for me". I love to have some freedom with focal length and it adds to my ability to use this tool to create.

    I had a X-E2s and it was one of my favorite cameras. The range finder like form factor was perfect for a camera of that size. I used a compact manual lens. I was looking for a used E3/4 but the prices are insane. I found a sweet deal on a X-T10 but if I ever find a deal I would jump on it.
    The great thing about the X-E line is how compact they are. When I had mind I never thought twice about taking it with me unlike my other cameras.

    I’d love to pick your brain on the following…
    I’m having a hard time with deciding on a new Fuji body, struggling with GAS, but also feeling like I want a new and/or third body.
    Right now I’m shooting on an XT3 and an X100V. Love both. I shoot studio portraits and headshots, personal branding photos and the occasional family session. I used to shoot engagements and weddings, but now it’s almost entirely portrait work.
    I have fallen in love with the rangefinder style of the X100V, and I am eyeing the XPRO 3 and the XE4. If I get the XE4, I can keep my XT3.
    I’m having a hard time deciding if I should sell my XT3, and get an XPRO 3, keep the XT3 and get an XE4, or just wait and save for the XPRO3 and have three cameras (XT3, XPRO & X100).
    I’ve also considered the XT4, but I don’t do video, don’t care about IBIS and I just don’t see the upgrade.
    I like to work very minimalist, and I only have a handful of lenses.
    I would love your thoughts as to what you would do in my shoes.

  • @60400
    @60400 2 роки тому +35

    Great video. Honestly, for me this camera was the reason I decided to get a camera again. I got tired of carrying a big dslr, fixed lens cameras felt crappy to use, the x100v was nice and compact, but I wasn’t a fan of sticking to the 35mm equiv and the x-pro was always tempting, but let’s be honest, it’s not that small and light… but this, it’s got the best of the x-pro and the x100v, with some reasonable trade offs. If you can cope with swipe gestures to change focus mode or as additional fn function buttons, it works great. If that’s too much to ask, then it’s not your camera. I’m just taking it with me everywhere, whether it’s with the 23 or the 35 lenses. Love it.

    I've had my Xe4 for a few weeks and so far so good. I'm looking for it to slot in where I used to use a Konica Hexar. So in that sense I'd be happy if had even fewer dialls/buttons. I find it funny how some people online get their knickers in a twist and have 'dealbreakers'. Eg. no weather sealing, af/m external switch etc etc. Maybe I'm an old fogey having started out as a photographer in the early 90's, but I really don't want too many technical barriers between what I see and how I take the image. Long way of saying I've basically switched off most options (especially the swipe function) and have made it a basic point and shoot with a nice sensor...my two cents worth 🙂

    If I were to buy a Fuji camera now, I'd consider the XE4 or a used XT3. Dream camera would be the X Pro 3, but money lol. Good video! Definitly enjoyed it and I think the XE4 is awesome. Simple as that.

    I have had a weird love/hate with Fuji for a while. Sometimes its been the sensor. Since the XTrans 4 and xpro3 I have really started to love it. Ditched my Sony gear. But the xpro body is not so suited for long events and sessions. I traded it for a XT4, which is decent. Like the sensor. And grip. Good battery. But I miss the rangefinder feel. I might spring for the xe4 and 27mm. Its a nice setup.

      I was lucky enough to snatch up what was likely one of the last good deals on an xe4 since they’re discontinued. I’m also a Sony guy (big investments in lenses, etc) but I wanted a Fuji for its extra creative tools. I however am hanging onto my Sony gear because I use it for professional purposes. Can’t wait to get it!🙏

      I use a lot of custom ones if I’m honest, I really like the classic chrome and eterna presets. In fact it’s hard not to like all of them haha

    Thanks for the review! I've been looking for a camera for my little online shop for product photography - both videos and photos. I'd like to produce videos with a bit of artistic look just like your video here, so I'd like to know: 1) does this Fuji have ultra wide movie mode or at least the grid lines to help produce it? 2) Fuji seem to have very few macro and OIS lenses available, any suggestions on what focal length/lens model I should consider if I buy this camera? Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the great review Ian. I've had my XE4 for a year now and couldn't be happier with it. I too use it with fuji's amazing f2 primes, they are fantastic companions for this little camera. I'm on the 1.04 firmware and no longer have any issues with the image flipping on the screen at 10:45 I don't think it's even happened once since the update. Is this still a problem for you?

    • @IanSnape
      @IanSnape  2 роки тому +1

      Yes it is! I wondered if they had brought out a fix, mines pretty temperamental, can you turn it off in settings do you know?

    • @my_obscure_epoch9346
      @my_obscure_epoch9346 2 роки тому +3

      @@IanSnape I looked into this a bit further; it seems in one of the firmware updates fuji have reduced the sensitivity of the EVF (which causes the flipping if it's too close to your body, it thinks the screen is flipped up) from about 10cm to about 6cm before it will flip the screen. I've tried it with mine and it doesn't seem to be totally consistent sometimes it will flip at about 7cm but mostly I can hold it very close to my body and not have it flip, it's definitely much improved from how it was out of the box. The lcd flipped out 90 degrees is 5cm so it just hasn't been an issue for me recently. There isn't any setting that can be changed to fix it though unfortunately. If your on the latest firmware I'm not sure why your camera would be different to mine, maybe just a difference in how we use them.

    You make this camera very tempting! I love the size, and minimalistic vibe vs. my XH-1 and Pro-3. Great point about getting to change lenses vs. the 100V. Curious, how do you change the ISO, No in-dial ISO right?

    • @kaneclements7761
      @kaneclements7761 Рік тому

      A button on the top next to the shutter release. Press it and in the EVF or back panel the options come up. A quick movement of the joystick and there you are. The camera looks like it doesn't have enough dials and buttons. Nonsense. Everything is to hand, literally, and the minimalism makes it a pleasure to use.

    Hey mate, great video. I wanna get one for me but I intend to use it also as a travel camera, to take on my hikes, etc. Will the lack of of weather sealing break the camera if I take it somewhere when it's raining? Great review. I have had the x-e4 and 18 1.4 for a couple of weeks. I also have/had the Leica Q2 which I got thinking I would sell the Fuji. Not so. The Q2 was just shipped out to its new owner today. The Q2 is a beautiful camera but I spent more time worrying about the expensive piece of equipment in my hand than I did the picture I was composing - the worry got in the way of the enjoyment of shooting. The quality of the Fuji / 18 combo is 95+ % that of the Leica at 25 % of the cost.

      I'm glad that combination worked, because I've never been convinced that my own 16mm f/1.4 and 23mm f/1.4 lenses would balance well on the camera. I don't particularly fancy adding a thumb rest and/or grip, but would probably do so if it solved the problem. I feel as though the absence of some kind of grip on the camera was a huge mistake to be honest.

    • @JoseRamirez-cd7ge

    • @squiddah

      @@MichealSeaghdha I have both the grip and thumb rest. I actually like the idea of being able to make the camera a quasi x100 by stripping it down and putting the 27mm on it; then putting the grip/thumb rest on as needed. With that said, I think they would have made a lot of happy people by including those things with the camera, even with the price bump. The 18 really benefits from either/both grips. I can only assume it would be the same with the 16.

    • @MichealSeaghdha
      @MichealSeaghdha 2 роки тому +2

      @@squiddah Thanks for replying and yes I'm certain you're right, if the 18mm works then the 16mm surely will. The 18mm is actually the lens I've always wanted for myself, but unfortunately for me the news of its release only came within weeks of me buying the slighter wider lens. In an ideal world I'd own both, but that now seems a bit extravagant, even by my standards.

    Great review, I am considering x100v , because of delivery issues by local LCE store suggested the XE-4, after. Your review I will take a look. For me I need the campers to fit in a jacket pocket if not then it’s a deal breaker. Thank yiu for the review very structured and from a photographer. Lastly as an aside , if shooting raw which processing software do you use? Right now I use lightroom but it does not seem to be great when processing Fuji raw files. Thanks in advance for any comments you can provide

    • @IanSnape
      @IanSnape  Рік тому

      Im using Lightroom, I haven’t had any issues with Fuji files and processing them through that.
      I also shoot a lot with just Jpg on this camera as the Fuji Jpgs are just so good!
      X100v is an awesome camera and I would say XE4 is great and suits my needs more as I can change up focal lengths when I need.
      Fuji lens are super small so can throw in my pocket when out and about.

    Good video. I just can't get past the lack of grips, but I am thinking of grabbing one as I like the weight of the XE line, then experimenting with various stick on grips. But it would mean selling my X Pro 2 which I got as I hated the XE3 downgrades from the XE2 (rear thumb rest, smaller EVF, general feel). Seems like a big downgrade for the same price (would lose the nice build, D pad, focus switch). But the weight and having a flip screen and in-camera Classic Neg is tempting.

    • @IanSnape
