  • We all want a quick fix to feeling good - which is exactly why I loved this conversation with Lavina Mehta MBE in this week’s Midlife Conversation - because she has proven that the quick fixes we crave are all around us, we just need to know where to look! Simply reframing them is the first step, which is why she calls them her ‘fitness snacks’ which can be grabbed on the move, no matter where you are.
In our fact-packed snack-hacks you will hear:
💪 How it’s never too late to change your mindset around looking after yourself. Lavina started looking into fitness for the first time after having her third child, and wanting to lose the pregnancy weight she’d gained. This led to a curiosity about how the exercise she was doing was making her feel good mentally as well as physically, as a new mum also approaching peri-menopause.
💪 How you don’t need to step foot in a gym to get your fitness snack. Going to the gym can be a daunting experience for women, especially if they haven’t been for a while, or don’t feel they fit into the ‘gym bunny’ mould. Lavina stresses that exercise snacks (or quick fitness hits) can be slotted into your day no matter where you are or what you’re doing! It’s as simple as using the stairs instead of the escalator, or using tins of beans as weights to increase your mobility and strength.
💪 The top fitness hack for someone who sits a desk all day. Set a timer so that you get up at least once an hour and move! This can be as little as walking around the office if you’re at work, or putting on some music and bouncing around for three minutes to your favourite song if you’re at home - it doesn’t have to mean clocking off for an hour and heading to the gym. If you like going to the gym then that’s great - but if you don’t, then it doesn’t mean you can’t exercise. See each little movement as a treat for your body, be grateful for it, enjoy it. Your body will thank you for it.
💪 How movement can help reduce everything from stress and anxiety of menopause to our risk of Dementia and Alzheimer’s - so your mind will thank you too! Simple actions like going for a walk in fresh air, stepping out into your garden or balcony for five minutes and stretching all contribute towards your mental wellbeing, alongside your physical wellness.
    And so much more!
