Funnily enough, this was the first game I’ve played that felt as captivating as Hollow Knight was for me when I played it in 2017. And that’s why I find it kind of frustrating that CrossCode has such a comparatively small following. After playing through it this past year, it’s a game that I can’t fathom not being talked about as frequently as Hollow Knight, or any other major indie title on that level. It’s such a massive and well-made title, with a theme and gameplay that would appeal to tons of people, yet it seems like there’s almost no big coverage anywhere on UA-cam or review sites.
I'll one-up you with a game you have not heard of: Rift Wizard. The pinnacle of roguelikes, in my opinion. It is perhaps even closer to a puzzle game at times.
I notice that there are 2 types of devs. There are the ones who love what's happening, and the others that make passive/passive-aggresive statements about the breaking of their game. I love the latter, because you can just feel that salt

Listening to the devs reactions on the constant glitches and hacks is amazing to hear. The laughter to the one hit kill for the first boss was hilarious.
As someone who has beaten this game 3 times, the only thing I really understand is getting to Rhombus Square early, which I've actually done before! Other than that this was crazy to watch

If you watched the whole video, they did mention the speedrunner must have played the game properly many times, and spent hours studying it. They were probably just half-joking when they were saying that stuff, it's just their normal voice is overly serious. At the end of the video they mention that you should watch some of the other speedrun categories with fewer major glitches, so they clearly already are familiar with the speedrunning community and don't mind it/encourage it.
Untermensch I do think sometimes categories that have restrictions on which glitches are allowed can be more interesting to watch for some viewers. Save-state manipulation is probably less intuitive for viewers than things like Jump Attack Dash Cancel or Dash Flare. Glitches that to the viewer appeal to some intuitive feeling of physical objects interacting might give more of a *feeling* of physical skill than more technical glitches, not because they necessarily take more skill on the part of the runner, but because the viewer sees the character doing the things. A backwards long jump up the stairs in sm64 may more enjoyable for some viewers to watch than save manipulation directly to the hall of fame in Pokémon r/b , because with the blj, the viewer can see things “physically” happening. But, again, this is just a way that, for *some* viewers, their appreciation of a run might not be aligned entirely with the amount of skill that the run requires. I think something that might be neat is, something that isn’t quite speed running, but is more, “a competition using the tools of speed running in order to produce an aesthetically appealing and also fast-ish play through of a game”. A “stylerun” if you will.
to all the casual players, you're not enjoying the game, you're going through the motions, but not enjoying it Sorry you might as well said that. Speedrunning is just another way to play the game man, stop being so negative about it. Everyone has their own way of having fun, think of speedrunning more like a challenge run, how fast can you beat the game, no restrictions, no boundries, just speed. Is doing challenge runs not considered playing the game now?

@@davidschneider515 The main problem is that after you already know the story, it no longer surprises you. There are some stories that are masters of providing detail and foreshadowing that you don't notice for several watches, but they're a select category, and even they tend to run out after a while. Challenge gaming, including speedrunning, is nigh-infinite, since if the player ever gets bored of one challenge, they can just try another. Challenge gaming isn't a replacement for playing the game normally. It's a way to extend a games life far beyond what would have been possible otherwise. They're done by people who love the game and want to learn as much as humanly possible about every corner of the game's mechanics, and test themselves in how well they truly understand it.
Also I'm pretty sure the speed runners have had their fair share of enjoying the whole game aswell since it takes aaaaageeees to figure all of this stuff out to get faster, especially since the methods slowly evolve over time they usually start at playing normally just fast and then get further and further from normal play^^

Crosscode and Hollow Knight is a type of a game that deserve more attention than most A³ games.
