It was a very rough start for a game. 6 hours in to finally get a connection (considering that I am a lore fan!) is a huge gamble. Starting from Lucanis's mission everything went well. The dialogues became smoother, the characters started to show off their personality (Neve, I'm looking at you, my dear Captian!), and I began to care about the story a bit later (while recruiting Davrin).
Also, I'm 22 hours in. Many fun puzzles are done, cool gear's found, an awesome build's made (I cleared a 35 lvl champion being a 21 lvl mage with Emmerich and Davrin in a party). There was a decision that had an instant impact, thus Neve refuses to heal me in a battle now hahaha. She has a beef with me. I ADORE Manfred and Assan (and you know I'm not a person who pets animals in a game!)
My overall verdict: Dragon Age The Veilguard is worth its money.

Your words are exactly what I’ve been thinking when playing the game. It’s a bit of a slow start, but it picks up, and it really grew on me over time. Overall, I’m really enjoying it. It’s not without some issues, but I really like it so far.

Good to hear. That was about how it went for me as well, I felt like the game really picked up and became enjoyable after I finished the mission to recruit Lucanis and the game opened up a bit, both with exploration and writing.
It also helps that Assan REALLY reminds me of my dog.

@@sethbearden3369 happy to hear! I've changed builds quite often because it's needed for the champion fights to progress the story. Idk how people played it and made reviews without a decent exploration. This game is basically about it and it fits beautifully into the main plot!

@@ImpGoose, I 100% agree with this. The game actively wants you to explore, and I love it for that because it doesn't feel tedious. It feels very well integrated into the game.

I had pretty much the same arch you did. The game was fun but it didn’t feel like Dragon Age at first. Then it clicked, everything settled into place and I could see the Dragon Age I knew and loved in the game. There are still some things that are jarring, mainly because they don’t match up with the expectations I had. But that’s fine.
The crossroads are fantastic. I love them so much! I love exploring them and finding the memories and little lore bits.
You’re right about Neve’s character. I like her a lot. I’ve heard her line delivery described as wooden but I honestly think it matches perfectly with her personality. I’m definitely going to make a Rook that romances her after I finish my current run. All of the characters are unique and charming in their own ways.
I love the relationship mechanics. Neve is mad at me because of the decisions I’ve made and her anger makes her attacks stronger but she’s won’t heal me anymore. And I love that. I mean, it makes me sad that I got her beat up and then abandoned her and the rest of the Shadow Dragons, but there are consequences for the actions I take. What I do in the game shapes the world in real, tangible ways that matter. That’s fantastic!
I love that the little quests we go on with the companions are not centered around fighting stuff or killing people. They are quiet moments where we get to know the companions over a cup of coffee, walking through a market or feeding birds.
I love that there are puzzles everywhere. Instead of running around the world following the quest marker, I’m examining my surroundings and looking for clues. It’s fun.
I love taking different companions with me just to hear what their dynamic is with each other even if they don’t have abilities that compliment each other. I’m trying to play Cupid for Taash and Harding because I think that’s so cute! Their dialogue while they are getting to know each other is adorable. The things they bond over are adorable.
Sorry, you probably don’t remember but all my comments on your last video sounded like criticisms. I really like this game.

I had many comments and forgot to like haha. But I remember your message. I don't think it was critical and appreciate your well opinionated and balanced view at this game. There's nothing to add about DAV from my side because I even though it has issues (like the one you mentioned before), it's fun and entertaining. I'm having so much fun exploring all the corners. Tbh, I start to think that few people who provided a critical review before Halloween played through the exploration lens. Veilguard is amazing!

So far? Since yesterday I’ve been on two companion missions. If anything, Bellara actually clicked with me in a way that was welcomed and unexpected for me.
I’m a little worried about a certain storytelling dwarf of everyone’s mutual acquaintance. I’m a huge horror fan, especially of vampires a ghost stories. Ha as anyone else caught that said dwarf only speaks to Rook? There are other little things that make me think something happened.
Character art still is a point of contention for me, but the environments are unbelievably gorgeous. I spent a good chunk of time yesterday enjoying the Arlathan Forest and Treviso. I also like the Crossroads, and the dreamscape we see Solas in. I haven’t liked seeing the Fade this much since Origins.
The darkspawn still look like derp-spawn to me, but I came across a narrative reason why. It’s better than ‘Sorry, my face is tired’, but if there’s a DA 5 in the future I certainly hope they return to realism, or stylized realism at least.
Criticism aside, though, I’m still having a good time with the game! But I can see why others aren’t, and I can respect that.

Challenge Accepted! Sang to the tune of "Under the Sea":
The Veil tears are always Greener,
Out here on the ocean floor,
    An Assassin from Antiva,
Is trapped down here let's explore.
Some demons & some blood mages,
Were trying to stop the Goose.
    But finding some codex pages,
Led her to set Lucanis loose.
Under the sea, under the sea!
    Turning Tevinters into fish fingers,
    Honking with glee!
    We met another feathered friend,
Now from the Gods we can defend.
    Whilst Varric is snoozing,
    The God will be losing,
    Under the seaaaaa!

Honestly, I've been playing for 20 hours like it was nothing because all the fun I'm having and as a fan of all BioWare games since their beginnings I can only say good things so far, I'm loving everything to the fullest. To get a downside maybe playing in Nightmare mode, as I always do in each installment, everything seems very easy. I do not know if it will be harder (some bosses and monsters are that's for sure) but I'm having more skills and gear and survive is not very complicated, and that without focusing on secondary stats yet, without enchants or stronger equipment like the red ones (uniques) that grants some huge stats and passive bonuses, you can see that it is more focused on action rpg is a fact, but not a bad thing. I still have a LOT of gameplay ahead, and more and more things are opening up to do, experience or explore. I love the scenarios, the combat, our codex, the quests, the lighthouse, the story so far, the smaller maps with areas that open up as you progress (something like GoW) on which you can return later for extra things (exploration, quests, reputation, gear, lore...), the characters, yes there is still gore... there is lot to do and see. I don't know, I don't understand where the flaw is for some, play it first and then draw conclusions. I'll keep playing I can tell you, I'm hooked! 🤩

That's amazing! Regarding the difficulty. I wonder if that's a bug or not. My husband and I play the game and he cleared a 25 lvl monster being a 9 lvl warrior. It took him some time, of course 😁 but it was possible on hard difficulty. The same story with me. I explore a lot before doing quests and it's a bit challenging but absolutely possible to fight everyone and win without many trinkets of epic rarity. The only encounter I failed is a particular dude with a shield (no spoilers for others) and his name starts with F.
So, I wonder. Do we play so well? Or is the game kinda easy and fun?

@@ImpGoose We play very good it's the problem :P Although honestly I prefer it that way instead of enemies become bullets sponges which is never fun. It always felt like dragon age people just want to hate the game because they hate that BioWare didn’t bend on the woke aspect. I’ve played enough to see the woke part of the game and it was done very well to where it doesn’t push an agenda it shows a few characters being different. They don’t force it on you and you have a choice to be around it or not so the hate is unnecessary

OH MY FREAKING GOD, GOOSE! I just finished first run of the game and need to express some EMOTIONS, so pardon for lack of eloquence 😅 Here some of my final impressions fresh out the oven🤣 It starts very lame and I sure as hell have a beef with this puppy in regards to interface, navigation, stability issues, couple quest breaking bugs and overload of cheesiness and pandering in some dialogs, but HOLY SHIT is it stick the landing! Third act is PERFECT, no notes. Writing, acting, action, music (f*ck me, mr. Zimmer cooked hard with themes for final act, like you can really hear the maestro jamming on heart strings there) - everything on the level. Juiciest drama made even more nail-biting due to my dumbass decisions through the game 🤣🤭 I gasped, and cried, and awed at many many revelations and plot twists, and do feel satisfied with how the story ended. Which was the most important part for me, so I'm willing to give a pass for it's many many flaws. I would say it's worth the money and good fun, especially if you are DA lore junky and love cinematic cutscene heavy gaming, but imao it's not on the same level as "old bioware", and nowhere near current giants of RPG like BG3 or Cyberpunk. Anyway, here my two cents on subject of the day 😁

You are so lucky! That's amazing 😍 I'm truly happy for you!!! I'm in the middle of Grey Wardens' mission with Mila (OMG, when Lucanis says my real name I'm on the floor 🥵). It's an epic meat grinder and OMG!!! I keep hearing that the final act is 5 times better! I'm going to bed at 3 am. I won't be able to play for 4 days due to work and guests at my place 😭 How cool that you already know everything and can enjoy the whole story! And then do a second playthrough 🤣 Have fun, my dear!!! 🫂❤️🔥🤟🏻

@@ImpGoose ooh, Weishaupt battle is pure gold! It one of those moments of saving grace for this game, when you sit on edge of a seat rushing through hoards of enemies. Cute kid, charming animal, valiant heroes, bits of political subterfuge, high stakes and crazy adrenaline filled action, what else could we ask from DA mission? It have few of those to come, you have some stuff to look forward 😉 My first Rook was kind of a mess and all over the place due to my impatiens and slight sleep deprivation, next one will be more deliberate 🤣
