the Saturn disc is one of those that gives you the whole soundtrack when you put it in a computer, which is amazing. Wish we coul get a HD remaster of this game with actual good controls

Play the Sonic Gems version instead, when you figure out the mechanics by using the L and R Triggers to make tight turns, double jump and glide with certain characters, this game becomes "bad" for a completely different reason and it's 100% possible to win 1st place on every track with every character. The main reason why I love this game is not just for the music, but the esthetic, the level designs, the atmosphere, from the music to the character designs and all just scream "Classic Sonic The Hedgehog during The Golden Age of The 90's", I played the hell out of this game on the PC at a time when all was right in the world, a far cry from today, the one thing I loved the most, was the fact that you were able to actually put that exact PC CD into a CD player or a stereo and listen to the entire soundtrack, it had a way of making you appreciate life.
Was going to say this exact thing! The Gems Collection version is so much better! Especially since a Gamecube or PS2 controller is much easier on the hands than a Saturn controller.

characters control like cars and not like platformer characters. many characters expect platformer controls and get dissapointed when it's not like that. once you start seeing them as cars the game controls much better

or a super mario party type. that includes a super smash bros style game with sega characters vs nintendo characters.
and a 90s arcade or n64 kidd like mario kart game. with sega nd nintendo characters
Yeah, the controls for Sonic R were undeniably trash af. For me it did feel better playing it with the Saturn 3D control pad. If Sonic R was ever remade, I'd love to see it play more like Running High for PS1.
