This man is the most underrated artist of all time. He belongs in the same conversation with the biggest names of all time. He’s as good (if not better than) as Springsteen, Petty, The Eagles, or any other American artist. I think he’s better than The Stones and The Beatles! My favorite songs of his: “What if I came knockin’”, “Get a leg up”, “Scarecrow”, “Between a Laugh and a Tear”, “Grandview”, and “Minutes to Memories”. But the list goes and on. He is a legend.
You're probably not a musician or you wouldn't make bold statements like that. When you say this artist is better than this artist you're trying to quantify something that's subjective and it's impossible when you get to this level of musicianship and song-writing. It's like saying who's a better guitar player, Hendrix or SRV? Neither, they were each unique in their own way and there is no scale that you can measure them with. I love John Mellencamp's music and he is one of my favorite artists. I love his music as much as I love the Eagles, Springsteen, Clapton, Pink Floyd, Etc, the list goes on and on through every genre and type of music that I play, listen to and love.

John Cougar Mellencamp´s music has been a great part of my life. Songs like "Hurts So Good", "Jack & Diane" or albums like "The Lonesome Jubilee", among many other records, summarized my adolescence. In many ways, I think his honesty towards music and intelligent writing skills have never been properly appreciated in his homeland. Some look at him as a second rate Springsteen and others think of Mellencamp as a too politically committed guy. For me he´s a hell of a talent and one of the musicians that made me like the USA.
Love the realness of John's sharing of his story. As a sick child, who had a major surgery at a time when my surgery was still an experiment, I always appreciated the fact that John overcame disabilities, just like me.
My sister was born with Spina Bifida and unfortunately was buried on Christmas Eve at the age of 11 and I was 10. How do you celebrate Christmas after that? I have survivor's guilt, although I know she was God's chosen angel. John has been more than blessed, surviving when back than, no one really did.... Fighting for his "Mellencamp" name, having such extreme talent as a songwriter as well as a really great and sexy dancer! I have been a HUGE fan since I first heard him and have seen him in concert more times than I can remember as well as meeting him in person at a CD signing! LOVE him!
@@lindadixon4341Linda, I'm so sorry to hear that your sister had spina bifida and died at a young age. I have struggled with health problems since being born with an enlarged heart, no left pulmonary artery and holes in my heart. I had surgery to correct most of that, but it left me with ribs wired together that don't line up properly, ribs and spinal bones going out of place easily. Off to the chiropractor to treat it today. I find that yoga and meditation help as does resistance training. The stronger your lungs and heart and muscles are the better we can get through the days that are tough, and the more we can enjoy the days that flow like a river! His music is fun and clean and I have liked him since the 1990's. I would love to interview him and my first question would be, how is Jack and Diane?

I’ve known about JM since the early 80s when he burst onto the scene with “Jack & Diane” and I saw the video debut on MTV and was knocked out by this song. His stage name was John Cougar back then. Then “Pink Houses” came about after a few more hit songs, and that song made him a household name and made him famous. After a long battle with his record company, he changed his stage name to John Mellencamp. He has always been a “no bs” kind of guy and a real people person. He co-founded Farm Aid! Nice to know he’s in the hall of fame, well deserved.
Got that right! Can't count on the bureaucrats in Washington to help the farmers, they cant get their heads out of their arsses! It would be great to vote a farmer into the White House
