Why You Should Visit Mount Teide, Tenerife

- I visit Mount Teide Volcano in Tenerife, the highest peak in Spain
and an active volcano: but dormant at the moment! It's most recent eruption occurred in 1909 from the El Chinyero vent on the northwestern Santiago rift. Mount Teide is the third highest volcanic structure and most voluminous in the world after Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea in Hawaii. It is the highest peak on the Canary Islands and in the whole of Spain.it's the BEST Tenerife Excursion to do on the island!
The formation began 170,000 years ago following the giant collapse of the former volcanic edifice, which was even bigger than the one that stands today. That is how Las Cañadas caldera was formed. Today we can only see part of the escarpment because as the inside of Teide grew, it gradually filled the caldera with its materials.

I visited there a couple of times (once in 1998, once in 2006), and got to the top of Teide. I loved it. Good friend, Tenerifian, owns an amazing/fascinating banana plantation down on the SW-coast, and the backdrop to it is this beautiful snow-capped volcanic beast. Awesome views !!
Loving the views from the volcano amazing. Just a wonderful video .😀
Thanks Scully, means alot
Teide excursion still tops my list, just amazing views from the top.
Agree andy
Thanks Tim, that brought back some nice memories of Tenerife. I went up Mt Teide in 2001 - such a barren landscape. I love cable cars but my friend had a funny turn from the altitude!
I did first time I went up I had a cold and my ears did not pop coming down was awful
Now I need to go and find out what the three higher volcanoes are!
Love it Tim as per usual, your videos should make tv, brilliant stuff mate👍👍👍
Wow, thanks
Another wonderful video Tim. Stunning scenery. Thanks for taking us on the journey. Debbie & Patrick
you are welcome , thanks as always for watching
Brilliant video yet again 👏
Thanks
Every time I go there for cycling there aren’t any clouds. Is perfect blue. Just awesome

You are too kind lol
Hi Tim. This one really interesting. I would love to go there. See the volcano and the landscape as well as the history. A big thankyou for showing this one and for taking you breath away walking up so high and I don't just mean the amazing views.
Glad you enjoyed it Marie
Visited Tenerife in the mid-nineties, Tim. I vaguely remember a small desert and the barren landscape around Mt Teide. The beaches were truly amazing too. 👌👍
correct!
Thanks Tim, another amazing vidio ,not sure had go up there ,but fantastic views ,a went on a cable car in banth , Canada ,was long way up ,cheers Tim 👍
Fantastic!
Tim really lucky with the weather so so busy similar experiences when I visited

@@WalkWithMeTim 🙈❤❤❤
Greetings from Tenerife. I am from the island. And I can tell you that you have made a great video. Just a few details:
1) Teide is the 3rd highest volcano in the world measured from the oceanic base.
2) The rupture that you comment on from 1909 is not from a Teide vent. It is an independent volcano like so many on the Island.
3) The part that you talk about a possible tsunami, the theories are not of an eruption on the island of Tenerife, but on the island of La Palma.
Hi, I like all the food witch is not cakes. I like cakes too, but eating onky cakes is terrible
Brilliant Tim ,that's on my bucket list . Only been to Tenerife about 30 times and still never been up Teide .😁😁👍👍definitely going up next time I go ,weather permitting .
Definitely going up this the next time I am over!
That looks epic - you are definitely selling Tenerife to me! :)
Love a cable car ride - I’ve been lucky enough to visit Switzerland a few times so very used to them
Thanks .. yes it's a great experience
with the cable car you clear a height of 1.200,more than 3 times the Eiffel Tower or the Empire State Building, greetings from Tenerife
I know crazy
Tim and Gaby ,and family, and everyone happy Easter 🐓🥂👍
Happy Easter!
Great views from above. Amazing site. Thanks for the History. Have a safe day
You are welcome Dolly

@@WalkWithMeTim We are new subscribers Tim & very impressed with your vlogs so far Wish you all the best going forward from us both (Anne Elton & David Butler) ☘️👍👍x
Most enjoyable to watch
Thanks Rachel
You would never get my Mrs up there in the cable car, the escalator at the Sky Bar is high enough! Love the landscape and the views though
Lol
Great video lovely views thanks
Thanks for watching Yvonne
Thanks for the video. I almost let my wife convince me to book this.
I loved watching this video brought back many memories of ascending the Pico with my father in 79 and again with my children in 01. Might be worth adding that the permit to climb further to the peak is free and bookable on-line and that mobility impaired people are no longer allowed to go up in the cable car. Apparently it's because they can't get us down in the event of an emergency.
good point! thanks Ellie, don't forget to subscribe
@@WalkWithMeTim the permit is free, but you need to book in advance (about 2-3 months) which makes it difficult to match up with the cable car due to weather conditions. There is no way you can be certain how it is going to be and you can only cross your fingers to have good weather
I went up there in my youth in 1975 before Tenerife was built up when Puerto De la Cruz was the only resort.
wow!
@@WalkWithMeTim Yes, it was wow.
Hi Tim nice seeing more of tenarifelooks nice out there
1 more video to come
Left a like Tim I am in Tenerife at the moment and I am not far from there but I am writing this on me day that I be flying back to Ireland looks amazing Tim hopefully I'll see it if I ever come here again
hope u have a good time
@@WalkWithMeTim I did indeed tim i miss it now as i am back in Ireland
Wow this is awesome 👍👍
Thank you 👍
Hi Tim, Casper, Gaby and everyone 👋
casper stayed at sea level lol
hi! tim. love the latest video!. how can i become! a channel member!?
Hey Simon, click the link in the description of this video 😉
Would love to experience the cable car but not a fan of being squished in like sardines. Its like the bus you catch to the terminal when you planes too far away from a jet bridge/main terminal... Where you try to get on the bus first for a seat lol... exactly like the cable car.
Wonder if they do quiet sessions to go up to the top. Imagine someone having a cold in the one you send up and you catch it.
Hi Tim Wow this was beautiful really enjoyed the vlog. Thanks for sharing with us love to you as always Tracey 💕 xxxx
You are welcome Tracey, thanks for giving it a watch
Thank you
Now I definitely know I wouldn’t get there due to my height fear
Thank you
brilliant thank you
You are welcome
Think I might miss this looks lovely but I have breathing problems at normal level. Great videos
Sorry to hear that but at least you did virtually
Tim loves those TIGHT shirts 😂😂
I've been there
😍
I've been there too
:-)
Another interesting and good video, when visiting the island last June, Mount Teide was a place we all visited both in the day aswell at night, but not in the cable car. But staying on lower part section, is 100% an errie experience, but something worth seeing while visiting the island. If visit again, somewhere would love to revisit and experience again, maybe via cable car? By the way, if that did erupt, with the guards there, how long would you have to get down & evacuate everyone from that place aswell whole island via planes etc? Always wondered the question, because they reckon this would if erupted again take out and destroy the whole of the canary islands? With the Tsunami? If your on the island and don't evacuate, you will die, as explosion will kill you. So yeah with that in thought, if evacuations were needed, how long would it take you reckon to evacuate the whole island? Hoping it never erupts in my lifetime or ever, but just interested just incase? But apart from this, nice views from the top, I think La Guardia was island opposite? But not sure for defo, but nice island and destination Tenerife, 100% recommend anyone to visit. Cheers. 😀👍
hi Tim what's happened to Today's Great Yarmouth live
the signal was rubbish! :-(
you do not have to pay to go to the top. Just have to book permit in advance. It's free. Nice video btw :)
Been to the top it doesn't cost any extra you get a pass online only so many available per day
😂👍
Pay for the permit? As I know, you need to get it 2-3 months in advance on their website, and it's free of charge. Only 200 spots per day.
are you allowed to fly your drone up there?
nope
Amazing experience really dear Tim 😍😍 thanks for sharing 💖🙏💐🤗
Thank you
Never been up there, our friends who we normally go away with said there's not a lot up there for your €100.
Lol what do they expect it's a volcano lol
They seem to have done an awful lot in Tenerife over the years, but if we've only been going 4 years!
You must have been freezing 6 degrees in shorts and no coat Tim.
Mate why not mention that you can smell the sulphur as you get to the top and you can do a walk around the side and see some of the vents. I did this a couple of years ago and struggled with hypoxia as the height means you can struggle due to the lack of oxygen.
think you should watch again as I did! ;-)
Nice 'gan
How long does it take from the town to the cable cars?☺️
An hour
So do you live in Tenerife? Going there in 10 days.
The island is gran serbastian
"one way to get to the top"? i walked from the sea level faro puerto de la cruz to pico in 7 hours and it cost nothing and was relatively easy!
7 hrs .. easy lol
@@WalkWithMeTim thats with breaks, be my guess to do it quicker.
woke up next morning at around 6 and went for about a 10 mile run so couldn't have been that much of a strain on my body,
You don't have to pay extra to reach the summit, it's free, you just need to book a permit in advance.
yep
@@WalkWithMeTim We will visit Tenerife in august, we already have our permit. Looking forward. Thanks for your video, awesome quality/content. 👍
Teide summit permit is free of charge, you dont pay for it.
Yes cheaper option
I have a ps5 and it is the best thing and i know that u don’t talk about it
???
Do you know the one that you done about Southport I live in Southport but could you do one about Birkdale
@@WalkWithMeTim hi
The tour operators charge 100 euro for the pleasure.
Hi Tim, Casper, Gaby and everyone 👋
happy easter
@@WalkWithMeTim Thanks and I hope Gaby I s enjoying plenty of Chocolate 😃
Again more memories, first holiday with my partner 13 years ago we ventured up there, was quite early in the morning but its so peaceful at the top. Your right about the oxygen thing though, I was quite fit at the time and I was out of breath, more of Tenerife please, making me want to book a holiday 😁👍🏻
Lol Tenerife Tour coming nxt week
Hi Tim, we visit Tenerife once a year and also mount Teide. I just wanted you to let you know that you don't have to pay extra for the permission. The problem is they only give a few permissions for each day and so they are booked out for weeks and months. You can get the permission for free on the Website from the goverment but as I said you should book it as soon as possible.
Thanks for your beautiful Video and the Vibe you bring back to my Livingroom.
Thanks for the info! Julia
I hiked Teide in the first days of July last year and I couldn't recommend it more. The best experience of my life. Being on the top of the volcano, on my own. Amazing experience. You need a permit to access the peak, but the guards checking permits go down with the last cable car, so if don't mind going few hours down to the car park it can be done. They were suppose to go down at 5pm, and yet I had to wait till 6:30pm, but it was definitely worth it. I couldn't belive the view. Had a little can of beer that I dragged all the way up. Priceless :D
I also recommend hiking the Pico Viejo. It's the second largest peak on Tenerife. It's this huge crater you can see from the viewpoint. Very demanding hike to be honest. Much tougher than hiking to the cable from the other side via Montana Blanca, mainly because of the loos volcanic sand. Very hard to go up with this surface. But the view of the crater is worth it. Unbelievable.
I climbed the Pike twice. Without permission in the night/Sunset. And Second time with permission at midday. At Sunset its incredible! To See the giant perfect Triangle teide Shadow. Starting at 3am from The parking space you are at around 6:30 at the summit. When you are slow start at 2am. And enjoy the Stars at the night hike!
Looks beautiful. I visited Fuerteventura in 2009 the environment was amazing.
It really is!
Cable car wasn't working today tim I can't come back another day as I got a coach trip still a great day very pleasant weather when I got back it was baking hot
I like the roads around Mt Teide covered with cooled Lava Flows.
Great walk Tim. That poor guide up there for 8 hours😳I hope he’s paid well!
We went there in Oct 19 though just saw it from the first stage on a coach trip. Beautiful place.
coffee & cookie 👍
I wonder how much they are paid
I am visiting here in October does anyone no how much the permit is to go to the top ?
Bin there done that would very much like to do it again absolutely breathtaking the views are wonderful i believe it maybe la Gomera glad you enjoyed it
Thanks

The island was la gomera
:-)
What do they call that volcano?
hey?
Read the title, lol.
@@lparky4409 I did but missed where it said the name somehow.
@@lparky4409LOL
@@danielledewitt1 lol its in the thumbnail and remember you can always rewind ;-)
Brilliant to see this Tim! My ex wife at the time had Asthma which meant I didn't want to visit on my own! The best part is the plane journey out and you can still see Teide for about an hour out!
It's crazy how tall it is from where I shot it doesn't show you the scale
