Yes, obviously alot went into this one, and it took some time to learn it all. The hi hat grooves are very creative and complex. This is also one of DT's songs where I use all of the equipment on my kit to cover it accurately. I have already covered playthroughs for the majority of this album-- 7 songs, so far. I may not be done with it-- we'll see.

Marathon songs from DT, always present certain challenges. In this case, M. Portnoy wrote many different hi-hat parts that are all creative and require quite a bit of equipment to play them accurately; especially, all the differently toned splashes. Additionally, the up-beat accents in this one are also very abundant throughout (Chorus). Glad you liked this one; obviously alot goes into a playthrough like this one. Thank you. 🤘🤘🤘

Absolutely sick, I have watched my share of cover songs here on UA-cam, and seen many do amazing stuff, but this is probably the best cover I have yet to see.

Hey Tim. Thank you for such a detailed and insightful comment. That linear fill takes up half that bar of eight and I'm glad you had an appreciation for it. And yes, the various cymbal stacks, splashes, and other accents, are a huge part of the technical aspects of this one. M. Portnoy always makes it a point to use the entire kit in his work, and alot of equipment is therefore required to cover it accurately. Glad you enjoyed, as I do cover a good bit of DT. Absolutely! Thanks, Bryan. Yes, alot to learn-- but worth it. It was similar to when I covered "Learning to Live". That one was involved, like this. The medley I'm looking at is called "The holiday spirit carries on"-- great title. It's M. Mangini at the helm, released a few years ago. The drumming is complex, for sure. Jingle bells is part of it, and it's played in a 15/8 time signature!! Anyway, it will be a little while, perhaps mid December. Look for the next NTR #35 soon.

Scenes from a Memory is their best
but for a favorite I don't feel compelled to choose because it's not something that can be ranked, for me

I appreciate it, Lo Pa. Alot is required, and a lot went into this one, for sure. It contains some of the highest level hi-hat based grooves of any music out there. Glad you enjoyed it. I did a playthrough of "Nightmare to Remember" and posted it about a year ago. I covered that entire album and then YT blocked that one, so I eventually deleted it. 🙁 The rest from that album (BC&SL) are still posted.

for, what is great artistry and skill if there are not others to appreciate to the level that such deserves - there are different levels of appreciation, and
the artist may create for themselves as they can only do that if following the passions of their heart, but, humanity is connected, people are connected, and it is through our experiences individual and shared that we enhance eachother's lives and bring depth of meaning to this existence
not many can appreciate, in the scheme/realm of things overall, and it is not an unhealthy ego or narcissistic thing (it is HEALTHY pride, DON'T let anyone tell otherwise to try and diminish you!) to feel the elation of such in the sharing of that experience
music being one of the utmost elating human experiences, achievements
