Genious move by Dave to surround himself with 3 extremely likable musicians to balance his legendary grumpyness
I couldn’t agree more. Definitely a genious move. Lol
😂😂😂
He’s not even that grumpy anymore these days tbh, more like crotchety old man 😂
The side effect of being a perfectionist.
yes im glad james lemenzo is back hes good as hell on bass
Dirk please stay with Megadeth until the end 🤘🏻
Agreed! The world needs a hero!!
Dirk and kiko.
Well....is more until dave get weird and said so😅😅😅
him and kiko are the second best formation of megadeth since the legendary menza+friedman
Love that album. Very underrated
RIP Nick. The absolute best. Thanks Dirk for doing him justice.
he absolutely does....
More than Dave Wankstain ever did...
@@mymodel6and much more than you Mom did.
F*cken right man. Played it the way it should be played.
Gar was THE best, Menza was no. 2 in comparison.
Watched the whole play through just to see if he did the cross hits @ 12:21
Was not disappointed. Nick Would be proud. RIP Nick Menza
Vinnie Paul: ok
Straight up fan service. Love it.
those cross hits were sick!
Same here. Dirk nailed it.
Yeah, that was amazing. We all remember you Nick!
12:21 The iconic Nick Menza cross-arm cymbal smash
Dirk is an animal on the drums! It's a treat to have such a close up look at what's really going on behind the kit to play this. Something that struck me with Dirk's appearance here as well as Tommy Aldridge's is that these guys bang these songs out night after night and still play with passion, ferocity, and zeal for an instructional video. Thanks to them and Drumeo!
Yes,great observation.A band isn’t much without a great drummer!!
@@WillS-pl8wgsay what you want about Dave. But he's never hired any bums to be in the band!
@@csi2448 He Hired Paul Bostaph... he is very mutch a bum. But you cant get it right 100% of the time.
He had to play old Soilwork on drums for a long time which is very hard lol
@@MrCopenhagen113 Paul Bostaph? Never knew he was in Megadeth!
What a time to be alive. What an amazing tribute to Nick Menza by Dirk. Thank you Drumeo.
Dirk's cool. He's a great drummer, but even more so, he seems like a great guy.
That little tribute to Nick Menza he did, at the 12:20 mark (diehard fans will know), well, in all honesty... almost got me a little emotional!
Rust In Peace holds a very dear place in my heart and along with it, Nick Menza's drumming on it.
If you read this by any far chance, thank you Dirk! Killer performance, awesome drumming over awesome music!
Got you emotional? Calm down man he just crossed his arms like Nick.
Say it’s cool and move on
I often get emotional at crossed arms.
@@jd0879 Why do you care?
@@jd0879 Well, times are dark brother. Sometimes, the only thing that holds a brother together might be Nick Menza's once live antics. Or Lars Ulrich's white leather jacket in the 90ies. Strange things might move a man's heart, don't judge brother.
i knew what you were referring to before i saw the clip 😁
They found lightening in a bottle with rust in peace. Every song on the album was just phenomenal. Probably the greatest metal album of all time. Insane.
I'm glad Dirk is blowing up on this channel. He's one of the greatest drummers on the planet, yet doesn't get the attention he deserves.
Well, he is playing in one of the biggest and most iconic metal band in the world and the grand majority agrees that he's right at home. There's also a drum technique named after him. He might be quieter or very humble than many but, he's still in Megadeth.
@@NicoStormchildwhat's that technique?
@@wardseyssens7474The Dirk, or dirking
i hope his former band soilwork will also get some attention through this, his work with them was always stellar.
@@wardseyssens7474the Dirk blast
I must have heard Holy Wars at least 10,000 times in my life, but that was the first time I've ever noticed the kick drum triplets during Dave's solo at the end. Fucking cool as shit!
well, that's because (I think) there are no triplets there the way Nick played it, check it out: watch?v=KPV9sVau6T4
really???.. thats what makes that section awesome...😁😁
need subwoofers
Those are gallops not triplets, important distinction to make
@@_ProTrax yes, thank you!
The only drummer since Menza to play this song almost correctly as Nick. Every other guy after Nick played this groove weird. Dirk nailed it. But he also adds his own style. He's great. Perfect fit
Met Dirk and the band at a VIP event - Dirk has to be the nicest, kindest, most humble guy I’ve had the opportunity to meet. A true class act! Same goes for the rest of the band - great guys!
Nice to hear Gar Samuelson get a mention on this channel.
Really cool that Dirk knows the history of Megadeth and pays homage to the guys that came before him.
Technically Dirk is way up the top of the ladder when it comes to netal drumming, but the thing that really separates him from most other metal drummers is his deep sense of groove and musicality. His style seems to combine the best aspects of Gar and Nick's drumming
Agree with you completely, Gar had a sick groove and Nicks technical qualities and precise drumming are definitely combined in Dirk. Megadeth has always been Dave and that's not a bad thing, but I hope Dirk is Megadeths last drummer.
Dirk seems to be the fusion of Gar and Nick in one guy
Id say he does the song hella justice. Dirk is an absolute unit.
Rust in Peace manages to be complex, technical, and epic while also being very accessible and downright pretty in places. Thanks for a great video.
Dirk is so talented, love his attitude and enthusiasm!
This guy's really articulate and can explain his craft with clear musical descriptions. I like that. Fun to hear it explained.
How the hell u can play a 2hr set is beyond me. Who needs a Gym for a workout. Great performance by Dirk
Okay. Wow. Maybe it's because I'm a drummer, but this version is FIRE. lmao, holy crap. I love how he stands up and points and postures like Nick did, but has great footwork and passion like Gar.
My god, that was great to watch. It was 1990 again, and I was in middle school blasting Rust in Peace in my dad's Sony headphones, or on his Cerwyn Vega sub and Infiniti speaker cabinets with nobody home. I'd take off the screens and watch, mesmerized, as the 15" woofers did triplets to Menza's kick patterns, and the subwoofer growled out Ellefson's basslines and Menza's floor toms. God. That was legendary. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Dirk and Drumeo. 🤘
Menza would be proud of him, he does him honor
These videos with Dirk have been an absolute joy!
I remember, pretty distinctly, the first time I heard this album in 1990…I was blown away, & still am. Pure metal genius.🤘
Nick Menza was solid but groovy and that’s what set Rust in Peace apart. RIP to the man who made RIP cool.
Nick Menza , Gar Samuelson and Dirk Verbeuren are my top favorite drummers of all time.
Dirk has truly done his homework. He plays these parts flawlessly with power, precision, and heard. All of this while honoring the original performers: Nick and for my money, he totally nail’s Gar’s spirit as well. Cheers.
If anyone has listed to Dirk's drumming in Soilwork, they'll know that this is a peace of cake for him.
Sure pal. If it were such a piece of cake for him, then explain why he still played the song wrong. Go watch videos of Nick playing it. Then watch Dirk play it. Your Superman has no cape!
Love Dirk's subtle, but perceptible swing that he brings to these songs.
Dirk seems like such a likeable guy.
Dirk is a legend. Great to hear his breakdown on this classic killer song
I love this. Holy Wars is a sick song and Dirk is amazing.
I was sad when Dirk left Soilwork, until I found out he joined Megadeth.
Likewise
Check out what he's done on the last few project hate albums. His drumming is mindblowing.
@@sausagefingers8650 I am not familiar with Project Hate. I'll go look them up immediately.
This guy is so likeable. I dont watch any other vids like this but ive watched the last two that hes been in as hes so knowledgeable and his enthusiasm just comes across so naturally
Don't know how the studio looks but love that he used all the live show antics here too!
If someone would have asked me who Dirk Verbeuren is, I would have had no clue. But that Killers video definitely put him on my radar. In the 1h talk you did it became even more obvious that he is just a great guy besides being a great drummer.
I know the Holy Wars drum part inside out but watching it in this kind of detail made me appreciate even more how much of an insane drummer Nick was. Truly unique
I got to see them live in Raleigh NC last year. Totally killed it. You have stepped into a difficult position and just done awesome Dirk. I totally enjoyed it.
I can’t wait for them to come back to Raleigh, I got introduced to Megadeth in November 2022. Since then it became my favorite metal band. Too bad I discovered them this late tho.
Everybody from my generation still misses the sheer aggression of late Nick Menza, yet Dirk's not only professional (and proficient)
He pays tribute to Nick's unforgettable parts but also puts a few personal touches here and there, like the use of the bell, and the kick fill
Such a wonderful player
Thank you Dirk
From a 'deth fan now in
its '50s
Sounds exactly like the studio recording 😃!!
Dirk is top tier and does the old songs justice
I love all the little extra bass drum notes Dirk is playing towards the end during Mustaine's solo. Nick Menza really was a metal drummer who wasn't scared to get in there and get dirty, plus his creativity was top notch. He had a big kit with big toms he had no trouble getting around. We lost a good drummer when he passed. His father was a famous jazz musician as well who was known for playing saxophone for the Pink Panther theme song.
That was beautiful. I love it when you see a drummer enjoying what he is playing. His eyes were burning.
this video made my day. Holy wars is one of my favorite songs of all time, and one of my favorite to play on the drums!
Dirk has that magic touch perfect for megadeth.
I saw Dirk and Megadeth last month and it was top notch! Thanks Dirk.
Wow insane timing.. i started listening to this song 2 days ago (july 2023).. and get to hear behijd the scenes like almost 40 years later seems like a blessing.. thanks ;D
Oh boy this insane tribute for Menza! Keep going the legacy!
This guy is pure energy, love his style!
"it's interspersed with this *dagadaga daaan*" I love hearing drummers talk about guitar parts the same way guitarists talk about drum parts hahaha
i love this guy - more of him please.
Every art, style, pattern, gimmick stage of this performance showing to us, is like dedicated to Nick Menza and Gar Samuelson. Rest in Peace mentor🙏🏾
You always mesmerizing Dirk🤘
chills whan he stands up to engage the crowd in the full track playthrough. very cool!
Nick was so dynamic for a thrash drummer. Nick , Gar, and now Dirk . Dirk may in fact be the best and most powerful, he hits so hard but always looks like he’s in control. I still love the footage fo Nick playing Holy Wars in Donnington I think. He’s standing and smiling and pumping the crowd a man in his element loving his job. You can tell Dirk loves his job too .
So clean and energetic drumming Dirk
One of the best metal songs of the decade!! Great to see the drumming separate like this.
Thank you for coming to Drumeo, Dirk!
I hope the current lineup stays in Megadeth till the band ends. James, Dirk and Kiko are so likeable and nice human beings and music-wise it's obvious how incredible they are. Dave has refreshed the band with their additions.
Please keep these videos coming. I could watch Dirk break down songs forever.
You have a Really Cool style!!!! Keep Up The Awesome Work!!!! One of the Best Rock-Bands in the Business!!!! You Are Very Lucky To Play With These Guys!!!! And Keep Up The Wild Drumming!!!! I Really Enjoy Your Playing!!!!
Dirk is such a legend! Love this megadeth lineup with Kiko, James and Dirk
He reminds me so much of gar Samuelsons playing. I love it.
I felt in love with dirk! He seems so kind, smart, humorous and real - it makes my heart melt! What a great drummer and it seems man to join this iconic band! I hope he will stay until the end! 🤘
He is so likeable, man! So honest and humble. And a beast on drums on top of all that.
i'd say dirk is the sole reason dave has become so humble over the recent years
Great piece! Spectacular drumming and as always Dirk is a monster of skill. 💪🏻
I have seen live megadeth for years from rust in peace lineup to now and if for sure Nick was a master and a legendary member of the band , Kirk is doing an amazing job behind the drums with a lot of feelings and in my opinion a lot more of dynamic compare to all drumers in the band before . Love this guy!
Awesome breakdown! I was fortunate to get one of Dirk's drumsticks after the Phoenix show earlier this year. So cool! Thank you!
Wow, sooooo clean and rad! Dirk you’re absolutely a modern day legend!
I like this dude. Good attitude.
The production value in this video is impressive. Outstanding work.
Dirk is such a powerful and smart drummer!
This song is so fun to play. This whole album is very inspiring ! Dirk you're awesome !
I can"t say enough great things about Dirk. I was sad to see Chris Adler go after the first Dystopia shows in 2015. When I first saw Megadeth with Dirk at OZZFEST 2016, I was blown away by Dirk's groove and even more so when they toured with Lamb of God in 2022. Man just chills and grooves. He shows us how it's done in this video, and every night he steps on that stage. Cheers, Dirk. You are incredibly deserving of this feat on Drumeo!
I love this track! Amazing drumming ❤
Dirk is Megadeth's only drummer who really got the authentic Menza-feel for this song 99% right (the missing 1% being for those "jazzy" ghost notes Menza used to do on the snare that is ;-) )
Amazing drummer, very musical! Fits this band like a glove! Excellent stuff! 🤘
Dirk also plays ghosts like Nick :)
Mastery of the kit, I can't wait to see the new places Dirk takes Megadeths music.
G Damn!!!!
That was sick AF Dirk!!!
Brought tears to my eyes bro!!!!
RIP Nick Menza, this song was so perfect the way he executed on EVERY part of the song! There is no part of this song where he should have executed any different. It is a real masterpiece!
007
Such an awesome drummer!! As a bassist I love this guy. Kiko was another great addition.
Dave always chooses the best of the music industry to play with him for us. I mean, Marty Friedman. Nobody actually has a little idea of what that was at the time. Everybody who knew who Marty or what Cachophony was knew Rust in Peace was gonna be something big and different. Now we have Kiko and Dirk, both monsters of music not only metal.
Such a humble dude.... Amazing drummer. Love this!
Dirk is absolutely the heart of this lineup in more than one way. He is a great ambassador for the band. I hope he is around for the long haul!
love that this guys played this song thousands of times and still rocks out to it
OMG! I was legit playing this track this morning and you guys come out with this!!!! Now I can clearly see what I did wrong - surprisingly I was able to keep up with the speed, but my kick was all over the place. I also have to get better at the fills. What an invaluable resource- thanks drumeo!
Anyone else thrashing and headbanging in their living room?🤘
Saw Dirk live near Seattle. Dude killed it 🎉
This just makes me miss Nick that much more. RIP Nick Menza you will never be forgotten. 🤘❤️
i met dirk when they were doing album release parties for the sick dying and dead and let me tell you, he is such a great soul and seemed genuinely excited to meet us fans whereas for other musicians it may seem more like a chore. this megadeth lineup is one of the best in years and dirk is no doubt an amazing drummer. us megadeth fans are so lucky to have him 🤟🤟
Love to see dirk breakdown one of his songs on megadeth. Great video
Outstanding breakdown and cover of one of the finest drummers to ever rock this earth.
Dirk is a damn inspiration man. Love his passion for the craft
I always loved nick drumming. Dirk honestly played this to perfection..fire..
Was lucky enough to see them with Nick on the Rust in Peace tour back in the day. Dirk is doing it justice. 👏
The king at it again
I always loved the drumming on this song. Never gets old. It's not just your typical Thrash Metal artillery, there's a finesse and a certain swing to it that makes the song stand out.
Drummers like Dirk, you could tell immediately theyre full on metal by just looking at them. Long live Megadeth 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks Dirk, this video made my day better. Fanbase and bandmates fortunate to have you.
Of all the things I regret not doing over the course of my life, learning drums is my #2. I listen to all types of music, and always find myself focusing on the intricacies of the drum beats in every song. Growing up during the best years of metal, Megadeth was always in the rotation. Excellent video and breakdown!
Man i suddenly missed Nick again 😢
God I LOVE this song. been banging my head to it since I was a teenager. Amazing!
Thank you for showing tribute to Nick Menza \m/
