Feels like those guys sings with guitars. Amazing talents. This band touched my heart. Inredibly sad because there is nothing even close to their unique style.
+BorisBr1tva Try the band Palms. It has a lot of the former band members with the lead singer of Deftones. Not quite as heavy, but certainly just as moving.
Year by year I return to this video and each time find it unbelievable, the quality of this live is something amazing. One of my favorite bands, one of my favorite songs, one of my favorite lives❤
Agreed on the different sounds, though it does give me a similar feeling with listening too tool. Kinds of weird'is and fictional feeling. Im more of an ISIS fan though!
I am sad that I never really knew this band when they were active, but I am happy that I have found their music now. Man this is such an emotional song.. so cool!!!!! Their music is timeless. I am not a musician by any means but I like how they have all these layers in their songs. Friggen great band. If you guys read this how about getting back together for some more material..
@@feintcircles They released a lot of live music on iTunes also. The "Live VI 11.16.07" is really good. "So We Did" and "In Fiction" are really good live tracks. They could certainly come back and make more music and still be relevant in today's market. Because progressive rock music that is good only comes around so often. Never know. It took a lot of years for Soundgarden to make the decision.
I will be forever saddened that I never got to experience them live. Just as I was getting into them, they called it quits. I can only imagine how insanely awesome their live shows must have been.
Studying and understanding the motifs, themes, and influences behind Isis' music gives it a whole new power. It becomes more than music. Few bands seem to be able to manipulate the same transcendental form of communication in which Isis is fluent.
i went to see tool in oakland some years back and got super blazed before the show and isis happened to be opening for them...i had never heard of them before that. i sat just bobbing my head totally absorbed and grooving to their set. it was so amazing. my high wore off right at the beginning of tools set. i think thats how it was meant to be. this is one of the greatest songs of all time, it can speak for the seasons and natural ways of the world
What???? What is this. ChatGPT recommended it to me after I just listed to Batcat by Mogwai and this is fucking great. ISIS? Wow time to listen to ISIS I guess.
Blake maybe they do... I watched 3 ISIS show and every single time I couldn’t move: simply transported in another galaxy and totally stoned. These guys were simply on another level. And I miss them so much.
@TheScientista well that was certainly the case for me. Since discovering ISIS, I haven't been able to listen to and enjoy TOOL as much I used to, which is a shame.
@CyValkarion great point Cy, after they made their move to LA I contacted Aaron Turner and did some street-team work for them, strictly based on the overall appreciation of what they had created and wanting to help facilitate what you described above, multiple level planes of feelings and emotions, a language that tells us we are not alone in sadness, disbelief and strength or lack thereof...
When you hear the genre name "Atmospheric Sludge Metal" it sounds like it’s gonna be one of those terrible Metal genres that combines 5 styles of Black or Death Metal with some weird bullshit😂. But when you listen to the music of Atmospheric Sludge & Post-Metal you come across some of the most talented bands in Rock & Metal. Bands like Boris, Neurosis and ISIS have some of the most talented musicians and performers in Rock & Metal. This song is a masterpiece and it was the first song I had ever heard of this band, Panopticon is amazing.
@davethehostage Those Telecasters are actually very well suited to all sorts of metal and heavily distorted tones. Tons of metal guitarists use Telecasters. They cut through really well, and while bright, they have a sort of low end grit that is really unique. They can sound amazing with distortion piled on, you just need to know how to dial in that tone.
@davethehostage also he switched out the pickups with humbuckers and put on some heavy gauge strings to drop to b i believe. its only a tele in body but not the twangy soul
Tool can play circles around this band from a pure musicianship perspective, but I think Isis wins out in terms of creating an atmosphere and mood. This is such a great song...it's a crime I discovered them so late.
@@jamesthomson4019 Adam uses a lot of pentatonic scales, but he mostly adds some random major notes to throw you around a bit. But I dont think Adams use of pentatonic makes them bad or predictable in any manner. That being said we are comparing different bands here, and is just a silly thing to do. Adam uses pentatonic to create the "Tool sound" which no one can deny, regardless of any music theory spiel, is unique. There is no band like Tool nor will there ever be (without being just a predictable copy cat atleast). There is also no band like Isis, absolutely unmatched in their creation of massive atomospheres with gut wretching dread that is so incredibly thought and emotion provoking. Comparing bands is stupid. They are who they are. They do what they do.
@kirtbarnes Meh, I'm just not digging the sounds they produce when distortion is added. Like I said, I feel their new aluminum models blow them out of the water in a live setting.
I've never understood why Aaron is so keen towards Fenders. Their cleans are enjoyable, but adding distortion makes for what is possibly the ugliest sounding guitar tone I've ever heard. I'm happy they switched to EGC guitars with the last record.
it's already 2023, but I still can't find a cooler live performance than this, the guys are giving themselves to their work and it shows
Totally agree. There will never be another band like Isis
This album soothed me to sleep through two deployments
That's heavy. Thanks for sharing.
Holy fuck, I used to get to sleep to this album regularly for a couple years, but yeah, not through any deployments. Respect.
The end of this song will forever give me goosebumps.
Intronaut takes a lot of inspiration from them.
They drew a lot from Neurosis. I think that's about as close as you can get in sound.
Check out Consecration - .avi live @ Gun Club, and later go for full albums :))
make an Isis pandora station. mogwai, red sparowes, russian circles, hacride, pelican, explosions in the sky, etc etc, that station never gets old
Year by year I return to this video and each time find it unbelievable, the quality of this live is something amazing. One of my favorite bands, one of my favorite songs, one of my favorite lives❤
You are correct 💯
the years they passed and so did we..
This guys were geniuses yet to unknown to the mass.
Why do people have to compare ISIS to Tool? Why does something have to sound like something else? Two totally different sounds to me.
There are little things, some dynamics, some fadings, some chords that can remind Tool or A Perfect Circle but yeah...not even near to comparison
Well, Isis' drummer is/was (not sure) Tool's drummer tech
Agreed on the different sounds, though it does give me a similar feeling with listening too tool. Kinds of weird'is and fictional feeling. Im more of an ISIS fan though!
Yeh comparing and labelling does my head in too mate . You are not on your own there . JUST LISTEN TO THE MUSIC PEOPLE HAHAHAHA 😄
ikr like Isis is actually a good band
My god, this piece of music never fails to induce tears and goosebumps. ISIS will be sorely missed.
I am sad that I never really knew this band when they were active, but I am happy that I have found their music now. Man this is such an emotional song.. so cool!!!!!

Just to let you know they toured a little while back under the name 'Celestial'. I don't think there was any new material but same awesome music ! 😃

Check out SUMAC & Old Man Gloom, a few of these guys still do similar toonz in those groups🔥💀🔥
Have a look into cult of luna also. Very similar style. Albums the beyond, salvation and somewhere along the highway and 3 crackers
Every single time...Eargasm
I will be forever saddened that I never got to experience them live. Just as I was getting into them, they called it quits. I can only imagine how insanely awesome their live shows must have been.
I was lucky to see them live and it was THE BEST EVER! 1 hour just blown away!
Amazing. That atmosphere.
No matter how many times I listen to this, it still blows my mind. Heavier than dark matter.
Unknown pleasures is what I seek.....my path is unknown
Studying and understanding the motifs, themes, and influences behind Isis' music gives it a whole new power. It becomes more than music. Few bands seem to be able to manipulate the same transcendental form of communication in which Isis is fluent.
like what bands
This song has one of the best endings I've ever heard. To me it is the sound of grief.
still gives me goosebumps.. miss seeing these guys
Panopticon is in the top 10 greatest albums of all time.
i went to see tool in oakland some years back and got super blazed before the show and isis happened to be opening for them...i had never heard of them before that. i sat just bobbing my head totally absorbed and grooving to their set. it was so amazing. my high wore off right at the beginning of tools set. i think thats how it was meant to be. this is one of the greatest songs of all time, it can speak for the seasons and natural ways of the world
Best sludge band ever !
That ending is incredible

One of the best band ever
Even without sound, to see how much these guys live within their music is incredible
I haven't watched this one for a while.I saved it in my favorite videos. I remember why now. This guy's kick Fucking ASS!!!!
Will we ever be able to see them live ever again? God damn they are great. I’ve zoned out for days on these albums.
crying
especially, in the last part
pure shivers man. this is heaven and hell at the same time
I was at this concert!
I wish I could've seen them live. :( I can only imagine the unrelenting force you'd feel from the front row.
Knowing I will never be able to witness this sheer awe, upsets me greatly. RIP.
I love the band and it was the loudest show I’ve ever been to. You could FEEL the music.
everytime i hear this song... it's like the universe is talking to me...
it brings me peace.
Panopticon is perfection
What???? What is this. ChatGPT recommended it to me after I just listed to Batcat by Mogwai and this is fucking great. ISIS? Wow time to listen to ISIS I guess.
nice Joy Division shirt
i've played that video like two thousands times
This crowd has no idea what they're watching
Blake maybe they do...
I watched 3 ISIS show and every single time I couldn’t move: simply transported in another galaxy and totally stoned.
These guys were simply on another level.

3:10 Always raises the volume to feel the true power of music. Feelings that gets so strong until you shake of emotion.
6:30 holly fuckin shit
Tool is amazing. Isis is amazing. Who gives a shit? Enjoy the trip.
From forest caves..and azure skies..
Por siempre "mi" tema :)
"Our bones EEEXXXPOSED!"

@Fenster020 absolutely... best band ever hands down! (us ISIS folk are pretty snobby aren't we?)
Böbreğim sizindir.

indeed my friend ... me too
굿~
6:34 can not get loud enough!!!
Everything else fails in comparison. Isis (even an disbanded Isis) is the best band, ever.
In my opinion, even better than Tool.
Wow! That's fucking dark! Tried but can't compare u to anybody. Great Stuff! Cheerio!
Anyone else noticed that awesome Joy Division T-Shirt?
@JWRONG1996 LOL I would too...but I would proabaly be so absorbed by the music that I would end up just getting lost in it.
@stinkfist93420 Try Cult of Luna as well... + AmenRa
I started to like them more than Tool. I don't know if that's blasphemy, but it fucking happened!
: D
@Kelavmeister Nothing will ever add up to Panopticon or Oceanic. Nothing. Ever.
@CyValkarion Like, no other music ever?! haha
Tool can play circles around this band from a pure musicianship perspective, but I think Isis wins out in terms of creating an atmosphere and mood. This is such a great song...it's a crime I discovered them so late.
yeah I'd refute the claim that Tool beat them on musicianship grounds. Adam Jones literally just plays pentatonic scales lmao

Fuck yeah Aaron wearing a Joy Division shirt!
@oooouie LOL.
@stinkfist93420 Haha, I got into ISIS via Tool.... via my Dad...
@kirtbarnes Meh, I'm just not digging the sounds they produce when distortion is added. Like I said, I feel their new aluminum models blow them out of the water in a live setting.
@stinkfist93420 You found something 10X better than tool, nothing agains't tool.
@stinkfist93420 I think you mean 'better than' Tool.
@stinkfist93420
Easily as good as Tool, Tool have been quoted as listing Isis as one of their biggest influences...
Pure Head Sound, RIP Isis
adam olun lan
Cooler yet is that they supported Tool on tour! :D
nice meme shirt.
BTW "meme" is always "shit" : )
@stinkfist93420 They opened for em 5 years ago.. hahah Too bad their last album wasn't as fantastic as Panopticon or Oceanic, in my opinion... :/
stop comparing ISIS to tool. god damnit, they are two completely different bands with two completely different sounds.
Or not..
Aaron Horkey likes them. Therefore....
Song length. And people are stupid.
Oh come on Isis is way better than tool -___-
@stinkfist93420 Better than****
I've never understood why Aaron is so keen towards Fenders. Their cleans are enjoyable, but adding distortion makes for what is possibly the ugliest sounding guitar tone I've ever heard.
I'm happy they switched to EGC guitars with the last record.
@stinkfist93420 WAY better than tool dude.
apparently you completely missed the memo on what live music means. take a shower and think about what you've done with your life.
I have to disagree.
studio version 100 times better..
Luca Bazuka drummer Is terrible live
@stinkfist93420 better.
the singer isn´t good as maynard but the rest is fuckin awesome!!
Low-skill high-thrill nothing
