I'll never forget hearing Smiles and Handshakes off The Red Sea back in the day. I never thought Isis would breakup they were like an institution. Oceanic will never go away though, thanks Isis for more than a decade of phenomenal music.
Oceanic is one of the best albums of any kind ever. This song. Carry. Hym. False Light. Just fucking incredible! Oh...and at times I like Panopticon even more.
Pretty ironic the title of this song, seeing as though I just started searching the net for info as to what this band is up to right now. I saw them on the Oceanic tour in Brighton UK. They played next to the fucking sea, which you could see through the large window that stretched the entire right side of the venue. That was a magical experience. Well So long and thanks taking me somewhere I didn't expect...
@jms1791 Yes, five half-tones lower is actually something like a powerchord compared to the other string instruments, right? It's just so deep that it gets kind of ... flabby and mushy. Like playing a powerchord on an 8-string. Well, sounds a liiiiiiiiiiiiiittle bit dissonant, but I love dissonance.
@davethehostage It's also about the amplifier, ISIS use high-end tube amps that don't mush the sound together like my cheap transistor modeling amps, my F# tone sounds shitty compared to Aaron's live sound
@davethehostage I don't get what you're trying to say. Every guitar on the face of earth can be tuned to F# F# B E G# C#, it's just depeds on string gauge and scale if it sounds good or not.
@JackCarver10 Really? I've owned more than a few guitars, experimented with a wide variety of strings, and all of them have sounded overly chunky when I tuned to F#. I suppose I've just been using the wrong combinations, perhaps.
Post core, guess was called so, at least in southern Europe, but, at the end of the day, who cares?! Isis, right now, belongs, as undisputed creator, to a league of its own 😤.
Not really, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a huge Deftones fan. ISIS and Deftones are my two favorite bands, but I think Chino will bring something different to their sound. Whether that is for better or for worse, I don't know.
2022 and i still miss these guys
Me too! They never made a weak album. They were masters at layering and texturing all of the guitar parts into one sonic mind-fuck.
That bass player is so disciplined. Respect.
June 2024 and I still miss these guys.
Me too
I remember the first time I heard this I couldn't stop replaying it.

Still the all time greats of the genre. Timeless song.

I love seeing them sway with the music. It's exactly what I do, I feel it in my body, ESPECIALLY this song.
ISIS, you are sorely missed. your mosquitoes.
4:18-5:52 is an amazing build an release. The vocals are so intense when they first come in. Chills!
The things I'd do to see this band reunite and play live again...
Damn, I love this song so much. 2nd most beautiful song ever, in the world.
Then you call for it: what's your favourite?
I love the improvisation bit at the end. It's always fun to watch.
man i just get so pumped up listening to this
Such an amazing song.

Love it, but tune the bottom, yo.
Wow. Thanks for sharing that. Oceanic played by the ocean. Truly special. As you well know:)
thanks for posting.
Love the whole song, and Isis is one of my favorite bands. But I especially get chills right at 4:50 seconds when it just explodes into music orgasm.
PERFECT
Cool disco.

isis is now palms feat chino moreno from deftones
SUBLIME! AMO!

Group called "27". Relapse Records or a sister label I think. Google it.
aquela música que deixa a moçada feliz
Wow, the B string of his guitar is waaaaaaaay out of tune and it still sounds awesome.
@JackCarver10 Really? I've owned more than a few guitars, experimented with a wide variety of strings, and all of them have sounded overly chunky when I tuned to F#. I suppose I've just been using the wrong combinations, perhaps.
Joy Division
fucking MASSIVE!
@evanisgay11 According to Cliff, it was part of an Olivier Messiaen piece. He never said what it was called, sorry.
0:45 Is that low bass string off by 3 semi tones flat or are my ears crooked??
@JackCarver10 I don't know of any guitar thus far that can hold up a drop B tuning with the 1st stringed dropped down to F#.
Great shit. Just sucks I couldn't hear the bass. . It's soooo good in this song
@aviadha Isis are back!
Does anyone know the name of the intro they've used for this song? i cant find it anywhere.
Some very Joy Division-esque drum fills here.
anyone know who the girl is singing in the background on the album version?
Maybe: Maria Christopher?!
hm, love isis and the beginning and the end. but the sound of this dvd is a bit too lo-fi for my tastes...
@davethehostage Ahh well thanks anyways, man.
What genre is this? I call it, Acid Metal
Post metal

Minus Aaron Turner.
I really hope Palms will turn out great, but I cant shake the feeling of Chino being a huge step down from Turner.
It's like Danny Carey on Dave Grohl's drum set
