When Foreigner released their first album, I was sold. I saw them in concert in 1978, tickets were $7.50 (I thought it was high), but they put on a great show. I've been a fan since day one. Lou Gramm has one of the best voices in rock history.
Their replacement singer is not bad and they are touring this summer. This is the summer nostalgia season. Literally every group that ever had a hit the past 50 years are on the road this summer, but tickets are a lot more than 7.50 now. Ridiculous prices
“Only ballad”??????? Absolutely not! Listen to songs “Waiting for a girl like you,” which came before “i want to know what love is.” Also “I don’t want to live without you,” is amazing!!!!
I was gonna say whoever said "I Want To Know What Love Is" was their only ballad don't really know Foreigner very well. The two biggest hits they had were ballads.
I remember as a kid when this album was out I put some headphones on and listen to Star Rider Star Rider yes indeed and I go into another time song brother
Agreed, as did Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their debut album "Pronounced" spawned songs they would play their entire career such as Simple Man, Tuesday's Gone, I Ain't The One, Things Goin' On, Mississippi Kid, Gimme Three Steps, and the iconic rock anthem Freebird.
@Vern Sherris the first 3 Bad Co albums were all outstanding Run with The Pack and then Straight Shooter not really a bad song on them. Foreigner was much like that too
The original bass player Eddie Gagliardi was my next door neighbor in the projects in Brooklyn. I used to hear him practicing to the songs of the day like Zeppelin, the Who and Beatles. He was a huge McCartney fan and that is why he played left handed and chose the Rickenbacker. They moved away and a few years later I was working in the record department in a local store and saw this album cover and his picture on the cover. This was his dream to be in a band like this.
Another great ballad by Foreigner is the hauntingly beautiful "Waiting for a Girl Like You," which was No. 2 for 10 weeks back in 1981-82. It was kept out of the No. 1 spot by Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" for nine of those 10 weeks and by Hall and Oates' "I Can't Go for That" the final week.
Got to meet lead singer Lou Gramm at a book signing in Rochester, NY about 9 years back. He told stories with the co-writer of the book and performed songs (Foreigner & his solo work) with his Lou Gramm band. At the end we got to meet him and get our book signed (his life story). Also got to see him with Foreigner in 1993. One of my all time favorites.
Their ballad "Waiting For a Girl Like You" was a *monster* hit, stayed in the Top 5 for nearly 3 months back in 1981. One of the biggest hits of that year. Give it a listen, you won't be disappointed.
Yep, 10 weeks at #2! I still remember the week Olivia Newton-John finally fell out of #1. She was like 3 or 4. I thought FINALLY, Foreigner is going to hit #1! Then as Casey Kasem was commenting on the #1 songs on other charts (as he was getting ready to play #2) I heard the keyboard chord starting up in the background. I was like "NO WAY!!!" LOL! In its 10th week at #2, Hall & Oates jumped over it.
The 70s ushered in the new wave of great musicians to replace the 60s greats With bands like Foriegner, Boston, Ted Nuggent , Zz Top, Fleetwood mac, the Eagles Van Halen, ACDC, Journey, REO Speedwagon and so many more !

This song holds a very special place in my heart and mind. I lost my brother to a drunk driver when he was in the Air Force in California. So glad y'all are doing another Foreigner song. One of my all time favorite bands. You guys have barely scratched the surface of their great songs. At least 10 more to react too.
In 2010, "Feels Like the First Time" was re-recorded to be included in the rhythm game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. The song appears at the end of the 2012 film Magic Mike and was also used during the Riff Medley by the Treblemakers in the movie Pitch Perfect. It was also featured in the 2013 film Anchorman 2, the 2017 film I, Tonya, and the end credits of the 2021 film Eternals. A heavily-edited version appears in the 2020 Netflix movie Spenser Confidential.
This was Foreigner's first hit single from their debut album. The second single released off the same album, and also a big hit on the radio back in the day was Cold As Ice. Their second album, Double Vision, also produced a couple of killer radio hits in Double Vision & Hot Blooded.
Little surprised you didn't comment on maybe the greatest all time rock vocalist. His ability to convey gut wrenching emotion is almost next to none. Also, his lyrics are poetic. They paint a picture and tell a story like very few imo. Lou’s word selection and phrasing is very unique as well. Other must listen songs include Double Vision, Hot Blooded, Blue Morning, Blue Day, Head Games, Cold as Ice and Break it Up. And don't forget about the deep cut listens, Love on the Telephone, Rev the Red Line, I'm Gonna Win and Don’t Let Go.
This was their first hit which was followed by Cold As Ice and Long Long Way from Home...all from their awesome self-titled debut album. Other great tunes from that album were Starrider, I Need You, and Headknocker. I fell in love with them immediately when this album came out during my senior year of high school.
@@magicdestinations After I made my post I realized I had forgotten to mention Damage Is Done and At War With The World. During the '02 tour(Lou's last year fronting the band) they played AWWTW at the Trump Marina show in Atlantic City and I couldn't believe it and I was thrilled....it smoked!
"Hot Blooded" is arguably Foreigner's biggest hit, but they have a number of huge records. Would love to have more reactions to Foreigner here. You guys always 'make me smile,' not only with your reactions, but with your attitudes, your personalities and your family interactions. Thanks for your channel.
Foreigner was a hard rockin band but their biggest commercial hits were actually two ballads: I Want To Know What Love Is, and Waiting For A Girl Like You.
Foreigner is one of my all-time favorites. First rock concert I ever saw was Foreigner for the Double Vision tour at the CNE in Toronto in 1978. Been a fan ever since. RIP Ian MacDonald, founding member, who just passed away a few weeks ago. Lou Gramm had one of the best voices in rock ever! The late '70s had to be the best era in rock.
"Long long way from home" is the foreigner song you turn the volume up so hard so your belly vibrates as you sing along, kinda like that scene from back to the future when Marty blows out the speakers ramping the power up. All masculine intensity
That is the first song I heard from Foreigner, great tune and was the beginning of a great run by them. Very talented band, with a great and varied catalog, Lou Graham has a great Rock Voice. From the same album do Cold as Ice. Enjoy! 🎵
RIP Ian McDonald of Foreigner and King Crimson fame. I thought you may have been playing this because of his passing Feb 11 of this year. Great song, many more to choose from. Definitely get Cold As Ice. Some good synth , piano and guitar and more amazing vocals.
They might even want to try "Starrider" off this album, since they seemed to like the spacey kind of sound of the keyboard playing. Lou's voice is top 10 for me, and Mick Jones is a very smart guitar player, as well as being an excellent record producer (5150, among others).
I love Starrider. Ian brought the progressive rock flavour to their sound. Then Robert Lange produced the 4 album and told them to become a 4 piece with a rockier edge. Ian once replied to a comment of mine, and clearly expressed how bitter he is to this day. I often wonder what they could have produced as a 6 piece band. Their first album remains a favourite of mine. I absolutely love all their music though.
This song takes me back to the 1970’s. I was 14 or 15 and my favorite tv show James at 15 had the best soundtrack for a tv series, and one of those songs was Foreigner’s “It Feels Like the First Time” and it just woke me up inside, hearing that song the first time. ❤😃 Now I’m 57. Those were wonderful memories. ❤ Thanks for reacting to this song. I love it so much.
original lead singer Lou Gramm is from my home town of Rochester NY....Many of the songs were about the City and his teen age years growing up here....one of the best rock singers ever...top 10 for sure...thanks
The memories on this, whoa. First date (ever) chaperoned by our mutual friend, playing pool and discussing how much we all wanted to go to this concert. I couldn’t have been older than 17. Cold as Ice is better, imo. Or it’s wrapped up with more high school memories.
Foreigner does have another ballad, and it's from the early 90s. It's called I DON'T WANT TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU. You wouldn't even know you were listening to Foreigner, since it's such a mellow song. However, it's one of the sweetest love songs EVER - it was the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding. PLEASE REACT to it soon! Thanks! ✌💖
They toured heavily back in the 70’s. It seemed like every other concert we would go to, they were either opening or the middle act. Probably saw them 4-5 times in 2 years.
Foreigner is a GREAT band. You should listen to "Cold as Ice" (reminds me of my x-wife) and "Hot Blooded" (current wife of 33 years). Two of their great songs. Love you guys, one of the best channels on UA-cam!
This is possibly one of the best unintentionally funny comments I've ever seen. I'm glad your current wife fits the "Hot Blooded" song, and congrats on 33years.
They released this in March 1977 and singles kept dropping all through that year. It was one of the albums I got for Christmas that year. There were so many hits; feels like the first time, cold as ice, long long way from home, woman oh woman, head knocker. Everyone is still just as good as the day with they were brand-new on the radio.
Hell yes! This band was fire in the late 70s- early 80s! I still remember getting a cassette of HEAD GAMES for my 10th birthday. You guys should check out Foreigner's badass songs DIRTY WHITE BOY and HOT-BLOODED!! 🤘
This song came from Foreigner's first album, self titled "Foreigner", in 1977. It was their debut single and their first hit. Foreigner's follow up albums have great songs as well and definitely worth looking into. This song really takes me back. I was 16 years old and hanging out, down the street with my friends, wondering how we were going to kill time lol. Thanks for this video reaction!
When Foreigner announced their "Feels Like The Last Time" tour, my heart was broken-I've seen them live 3 times in my life. What did i do? Dropped another few hundred to get tickets again! So worth it!!
That was the golden era of song writing, musicianship, and originality. They did not watch youtubes to learn how to coot each other. They sat in rooms for years and played for years at joints and establishments looking into audiences and how they felt. Today's musicians are way to impatient and lack depth. That era was about spending years on songs until it was perfect. They also created different. They did not pull random tracks and lay down a song. They played together until it was right. It will never be the same again
One of my favorite bands in the 70's and I was lucky enough to see them in concert in 1978 California Jam 2 with Heart and Tom Petty I think and Stevie Nicks and Eddie Money, it was amazing!! Waiting for a Girl like You is one of my favorites, thank you so very much for sharing this awesome video, great reactions 😊💓🤘✌️
This song was their first hit which was followed by Cold As Ice and then Long Long Way From Home....all from their outstanding debut album. The entire album is great and although not released as singles tunes such as Damage Is Done, Headknocker, Starrider, At War With The World, and I Need You are soooo darn good.
There use to be a lot of t.v. commercials in the early 80's for Foreigner and the new album they had coming out. Instantly I was hooked by the music quality from those commercials.
This is Foreigner's first chart single it peaked at No. 4 and it charted March 26, 1977 and they had hits up to 1995; some of there other hits Cold As Ice, Hot Blooded, Double Vision, Dirty White Boy, Waiting For A Girl Like You, That Was Yesterday, Say You Will, I Don't Want To Live Without You.
Soul Doctor is a kick-a$$ tune, particularly Mick's roaring guitar solo in the middle. That's Foreigner to me, NOT the power ballads they became known for.
nice another great song by foreigner you guys will like this song. I remember when this song came out and my brother was a jokester and when my friends were over one morning when this song came out my friends were waiting for me hanging with my brothers and I said you guys got wait I got take a shower .and my brother said hey chad this songs for you feels like the first time my friends started laughing saying your brother a asshole but it was funny they laughed. this is a awesome song I like it alot
I’m not sure who got the idea to tell you that “I Want To Know What Love Is” was Foreigner’s first ballad, because their first ballad (or power ballad) was “Waiting For A Girl Like You” from the same album that featured “Juke Box Hero” and “Urgent” (Foreigner 4). “Waiting For A Girl Like You” set a record of spending 10 weeks at #2 on the chart without ever reaching #1 - kept out first by Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical”, then Daryl Hall & John Oats’ “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)”. This chart performance prompted the record company to ask Foreigner to try to repeat it - which led to “I Want To Know What Love Is”, which is Foreigner’s only #1 song.
They did both crappy 1980s #1 hits. No *ACTUAL* Speedwagon (1970s, preferably written by Gary Richrath rather than Cronin, and live so you get the extended solos), though. Even though I've begged and begged and begged. "Golden Country" "Ridin' the Storm Out' "Son of a Poor Man" "157 Riverside Avenue" "Like You Do" (you can do a concert from 1979/1980, where they open with "Say You Love Me or Say Goodnight" and follow up with this) And yes, "Roll with the Changes" and "Time for Me to Fly". Cronin did write some good songs. My luck, we'll get "Keep the Fire Burning", though. Sorry, folks.
Feels Like The First Time... a perfect tag line for the experience of watching you both discover some great tunes. You two are in that music. I admire how you pick what seems like a small instrumental part and give it love for how important is.
Please please please do ... Break It Up You won't regret it!! Lou's voice!! Awesome that you are digging into Foreigner... Love it!! @Rob Squad Reactions
@@ReinhardScheibe I agree! I believe it transitioned over into his solo stuff too!! "Here I Come Ready or Not" and "Midnight Blue" also show off the upper most registers of Lou's phenomenal voice! 👍
"I Want to Know What Love Is" was NOT their only popular ballad. They also had "Waiting For A Girl Like You" and "I Don't Want To Live Without You". Both songs are excellent.
Lou Gramm is something else, and Foreigner helped launch some serious careers. During the recording of their track "Urgent", they tapped a studio musician to lay down the keyboards. That musician would later use the royalties from that hit song to launch his own solo career and a HUGE hit of his own just a few years later called "She Blinded Me With Science" - none other than Thomas Dolby! ;-)

Nope keep the 70s coming Like this 70s song ,,,,,,ALL IN FUN
One of my fav 80s band ...
So many reasons they've always been my favorite band. And congrats guys on getting in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Way overdue!
Dirty White Boy, Cold As Ice, Star Rider, Hot Blooded. So many great hit songs. Definitely dive deeper guys!👍👍
I cannot believe people haven't said double vision
This song takes me back to the 1970’s. I was 14 or 15 and my favorite tv show James at 15 had the best soundtrack for a tv series, and one of those songs was Foreigner’s “It Feels Like the First Time” and it just woke me up inside, hearing that song the first time. ❤😃
Now I’m 57. Those were wonderful memories. ❤
Thanks for reacting to this song. I love it so much.
original lead singer Lou Gramm is from my home town of Rochester NY....Many of the songs were about the City and his teen age years growing up here....one of the best rock singers ever...top 10 for sure...thanks
Rochester native here also!
Rev on the red line. Killer song about Rochester
Also a Rochester native grew up on the east side saw lou and black sheep at the penny arcade years ago

If Foreigner plays near you, GO! Yes, it only has an original member playing sometimes, but they still rock and put on a great show.
The memories on this, whoa. First date (ever) chaperoned by our mutual friend, playing pool and discussing how much we all wanted to go to this concert. I couldn’t have been older than 17. Cold as Ice is better, imo. Or it’s wrapped up with more high school memories.
Fantastic song. I love Foreigner! 🌺✌️
Does that make you the "Dirty White Boy " ? 👍👊🙋♂️
This is possibly one of the best unintentionally funny comments I've ever seen. I'm glad your current wife fits the "Hot Blooded" song, and congrats on 33years.
@@merlball8520 Thanks.
Waiting for like a girl like you and I wanna know what love are my favorite songs by Foreigner!!!
RECORDED IN 1976 4 years be fore the 80s not even close to the 80s
Another friggin GREAT song!!!
Keepem coming from the 70s they are ALL VERY GOOD
I love how you guys listen and absorb the music you are Listening to. The best bands sing “stories” and write and perform them the best
Another great ballad by Foreigner is "That was yesterday". Lots of power, lots of emotion.
Blue Morning, Blue Day
1978 another of their many hits
My favorite Foreigner song is I'm a fool for you anyways!!
YES!!! Blue Morning, Blue Day kicks too!! Would love to see them react to that one and to Break It Up!! Those both really showcase Lou!! 🙂👍
I got to see them when I was 12 (1984) with my momma and I fell in love with ROCK!!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
Besides “I Want To Know What Love Is” another great ballad by Foreigner is “Waiting For A Girl Like You”.
MASTERS !!! that tune has so much groove and swing. It's simply amazing
Hell yes! This band was fire in the late 70s- early 80s! I still remember getting a cassette of HEAD GAMES for my 10th birthday. You guys should check out Foreigner's badass songs DIRTY WHITE BOY and HOT-BLOODED!! 🤘
“I Don’t Want To Live Without You” & “That Was Yesterday” are also ballads by Foreigner.
After this, it turns into "Long Long Way From Home", which becomes "Blue Morning" and then "Cold As Ice" I suppose.
ANY OF THEIR 70s is fantastic period,
The 70’s and 80’s were just so great! Wow!
Oh my, was Foreigner( and Journey and Styx)enormously popular back in high school in the early 80s. Foreigner rocks !
I agree with everyone who said you should do "Waiting For A Girl Like You". It really showcases Lou's voice in the chorus.
Mick Jones is an outstanding guitarist and songwriter. His solos are works of art and perfectly complimented Lou Gramm's vocals.
I have seen it mentioned before, but Waiting for a Girl Like You is terrific!
I have always liked Foreigner. One of the best bands ever!!!!
Foreigner is always good for some great listening. Some others from them to check out: "Hot Blooded", "Double Vision", "Cold As Ice", "Soul Doctor".
I’ve Been Waiting For A Girl Like You is another ballad
And it is SMOOTH. Man!
Foreigner is simply brilliant. Loved seeing you get taken by the spacy ride and the drums! Please send love to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine!!
Waiting for a girl like you. Another foreigner banger!
4 times Foreigner and still no REO Speedwagon. PLEASE PLEASE Roll with The Changes and Time For Me To Fly. I'm going to keep asking 😉🙏😁
Some Gary please!
Gotta second this request. And add Take it On The Run… which might actually be my favorite of all.
They did both crappy 1980s #1 hits. No *ACTUAL* Speedwagon (1970s, preferably written by Gary Richrath rather than Cronin, and live so you get the extended solos), though. Even though I've begged and begged and begged.
"Golden Country"
"Ridin' the Storm Out'
"Son of a Poor Man"
"157 Riverside Avenue"
"Like You Do" (you can do a concert from 1979/1980, where they open with "Say You Love Me or Say Goodnight" and follow up with this)
And yes, "Roll with the Changes" and "Time for Me to Fly". Cronin did write some good songs.
My luck, we'll get "Keep the Fire Burning", though. Sorry, folks.
Oh yes love live eat sleep this song
You have to do "Cold As Ice". It might be their best constructed song.
Feels Like The First Time... a perfect tag line for the experience of watching you both discover some great tunes. You two are in that music. I admire how you pick what seems like a small instrumental part and give it love for how important is.
Please please please do ...
Break It Up
You won't regret it!! Lou's voice!!
Awesome that you are digging into Foreigner... Love it!!
@Rob Squad Reactions
I was just going to suggest that one. Fantastic song
This is actually my Foreigner favourite. Lou Gramm belting it out at his best.
@@ReinhardScheibe I agree! I believe it transitioned over into his solo stuff too!! "Here I Come Ready or Not" and "Midnight Blue" also show off the upper most registers of Lou's phenomenal voice! 👍
This sure brings back some memories. First concert I went to in 1978! They didn’t do a bad song!
"I Want to Know What Love Is" was NOT their only popular ballad. They also had "Waiting For A Girl Like You" and "I Don't Want To Live Without You". Both songs are excellent.
But the difference is: "Waiting for a Girl Like You" doesn't suck. :P
Lou Gramm is something else, and Foreigner helped launch some serious careers. During the recording of their track "Urgent", they tapped a studio musician to lay down the keyboards. That musician would later use the royalties from that hit song to launch his own solo career and a HUGE hit of his own just a few years later called "She Blinded Me With Science" - none other than Thomas Dolby! ;-)
"I DON'T WANT TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU" is another kickass song from them too !!! CHECK IT OUT (the video) !!! 👍💗🎶
Takes me back to my wonderful High School days in 1976 1977 and 1978 Listening to Foreigner and Journey.
