Mike Reno sounds Irish but that means nothing...Chrissie Hynde was American but the band was British, I think? Plus, her being married to one of The Kinks (name escaping me) and the singer for Simple Minds gives it a British feel all around. Their 80s stuff seems more American though, if that makes sense (videos). Already suggested The Pretenders but nobody listens to me. Ha ha.

Finally! Thanks. They have so many great songs. I have seen them live more times than I can count. There are many many great Canadian bands, especially from the 80s, that you need to check out.
Mike Reno is one of the most underrated singers of the 1980s. I was extremely fortunate to see Loverboy perform as the opening act for another band. The concert took place about a week before their debut album hit the stores so no one knew who they were at the time. When the headlining act was on stage later some people started leaving to beat the traffic in the parking lot because the band just wasn't up to what we experienced while Loverboy was on stage (and, don't get me wrong, the headliners were one of the all time great rock bands that, I will respectfully, not name here),
Mike had a voice that couldn't be matched. He could hit those high notes which was unbelievable. This song and when it's over was my favorite songs but all their songs were truly amazing. Bands back at this time were just the best their ever was. I loved the Beatles but not to many other bands at this time but the eighties came with the greatest groups of all time.
Thanks for a great memory. I was in 3rd or 4th Grade when I became a fan of this band and bought an album or two -- I think this was released when I was in 1st Grade. And as a kid, I always wanted to wear shirts showing off bands I was a fan of, whether Motley Crue, Def Leppard, or Loverboy. Of course, not all of my friends in 3rd or 4th Grade listened to hard rock, so when they saw my shirt that just said "Loverboy," I got teased relentlessly. It bothered me a little, but I was always happy for the chance, even back then, to share with them what a great band I thought they were, even as an 8- or 9-year old. I guess that passion has continued, since I'm a music teacher now, lol. But every time I see something about them now, I'm reminded that the passion to share music with others has always been a part of me. Thanks for the memory!
Loverboy was one of my favorite bands growing up. Mike Reno was great lead singer with great range and volume. And the band had a very unique sound. Thanks for playing this.
I have seen these boys four times in my life, and they NEVER GET OLD!!!! Mike Reno is immortal on stage, and their songs are always a fun listen... You have to listen to "Lovin' every minute of it", "Working for the Weekend" and "The Kid is Hot Tonite"! They are gems! Loverboy is Canadian and is a strong addition to the country's roster of classic bands!
Loverboy were huge in the early '80's-from my hometown Vancouver Canada. Mike Reno is the lead singer and he virtually started the leather pants craze! They were definitely a party band. Their best songs are workin' for the weekend, the kid is hot tonight, hot girls in love and lovin every minute of it.
His voice is iconic and he earned one of the solos in Tears are not Enough, the Canadian song for African famine relief along with Neil Young, Bryan Adams, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell.
Mike Reno (Renoski) had arguably one of the best rock voices in history. He grew up in Penticton, BC in Canada. My hometown. He was back in town for a high school class reunion and he brought the band and they all partied. Can you imagine that for a class reunion?
I was in high school when this song came out, and I never stopped to appreciate it, as I was into heavier music as a kid. But I have a new appreciation of it now, when taking the time to actually pay attention the sheer talent on display. Thanks guys.
Mike Reno is a good singer. He did a duet with Ann Wilson (Heart) on an 80's hit. Loverboy had some hits in the 80's, with Working for the Weekend having the most staying power even to this day. They were like Canada's version of Journey.
Oh goodness....One of my very favorite Loverboy songs.... Glad you two gave this a go. And ya'll's "lean back" reaction to when he hits the "...gonna pack my bags and FLYYYYYY MY WAY" note... you both leaned back in the exact same way 😆🤣

Loverboy is one of my favorite bands. This was their first top 40 hit, but it didn't get as high as expected. And Triumph!! "Fight the Good Fight," "Lay It On the Line," "Magic Power," plus I thought the singer was cute even in his pink outfit...ha ha. Ha ha.
Loverboy is great. "When It's Over" is just another of many great songs by them. Saw them many times during the 80s.
Listen to their song Take Me To The Top. You will both love it!
My 2nd concert! 1983 with Joan Jett! ❤ My 1st concert was Van Halen. 1981! With David Lee Roth! 12 row on the floor. Washington DC! I didn't know what I was in for and instantly fell in love! Lol We saw Loverboy in Norman Oklahoma. Love!
So glad you guys are listening to Loverboy, one of my favorite bands in the 80's!! You have to listen to my 2 favorite songs, "Lovin Every Minute of It" and " Working for the Weekend" They did not have a bad song! 😊
I saw Loverboy in concert July 7, 1982 at the Bangor Auditorium in Bangor, Maine! Awesome performance. Imagine, Huey Lewis and the News opened the concert! Also an exceptional performance. You need to listen to them, too!
Finally! Thanks. They have so many great songs. I have seen them live more times than I can count. There are many many great Canadian bands, especially from the 80s, that you need to check out.
I still have my Loverboy cassette tape from the 80's...they rocked! Lovin Every Minute Of It is a must hear.
Those four cowbells dropping at the beginning of Working for the Weekend were guaranteed to fill the dance floor back in the day!
My favorite band back in the time....and Asia. Nothing like screaming this song while driving! :)
Mike Reno is one of the most underrated singers of the 1980s. I was extremely fortunate to see Loverboy perform as the opening act for another band. The concert took place about a week before their debut album hit the stores so no one knew who they were at the time. When the headlining act was on stage later some people started leaving to beat the traffic in the parking lot because the band just wasn't up to what we experienced while Loverboy was on stage (and, don't get me wrong, the headliners were one of the all time great rock bands that, I will respectfully, not name here),
Or maybe Styx
I knew you guys would love this song. This is true Hard Rock Funk that almost no other band did.
I'm so glad you discovered Loverboy! One of the best 80's bands! I hope you do more from them!
Just saw these dudes live with Foreigner the other night, what a damn good show! TAKE ME TO THE TOP!
Another Canadian classic. Mike Reno is awesome. Their song Working For The Weekend, Loving Every Minute Of It... so much good stuff.
26 years today. Sober since January 8th, 1996.
What an accomplishment 👏
Thanks for playing this.
hooked the first time i heard them~!
Loved seeing them in concert. Joan Jett / Loverboy around 1983. I sooooo miss my 80's...
Mike Reno has an amazing voice. You will love the entire Get Lucky album as well.
Mike Reno (Renoski) had arguably one of the best rock voices in history. He grew up in Penticton, BC in Canada. My hometown. He was back in town for a high school class reunion and he brought the band and they all partied. Can you imagine that for a class reunion?
"Lovin every minute of it" is a fun Loverboy tune.
Another phenomenal Loverboy song and part of what made early MTV so great.
I was in high school when this song came out, and I never stopped to appreciate it, as I was into heavier music as a kid. But I have a new appreciation of it now, when taking the time to actually pay attention the sheer talent on display. Thanks guys.
I saw them in the 70's and it was so loud I had to sit in the bathroom with the matron. Maple Leaf Gardens!!!!
And ya'll's "lean back" reaction to when he hits the "...gonna pack my bags and FLYYYYYY MY WAY" note... you both leaned back in the exact same way 😆🤣
IMO this is by far their best song. been a playlist song since it was on the radio! Gotta play this one LOUD!
I'd probably agree with that assessment.
Loverboy was the soundtrack of my high school and college years. So many great songs, you have to listen to Working for the Weekend, one of their most iconic songs. You also have to listen to Almost Paradise, Mike Reno, the lead singer, and Ann Wilson of Heart, duet. Love your reactions and videos, keep up the great work!
They’re from Calgary, but settled in Vancouver and for us living there we had Loverboy and Bryan Adams, but the 3rd other band in the area we loved was Chilliwack. The singer is Mike Reno. He can still blast it out. Another of their hits was Working For The Weekend. We were fresh young adults with the whole future ahead of us and these songs were our power theme songs; let’s grab a hold of life, we can do anything.
Chilliwack and Trooper are probably the two most under-reacted to bands on youtube
@@kdpflush I'm from the U.S. and I love Chilliwack. Lots of great bands from Canada. Do you know Harlequin- the song I'm thinking of is "Thinking of You?"
Absolutely!! I would love for them to react to Rain-O such an amazing song.. could be great if released/ heard currently. Now with Trooper!? that's a band I've got a very strong heartbreaker memory/ affinity for.. a very special 'Love' from my past.. (early 80's) had introduced me.. first to their music and then (quite literally) to them! Lol! We got a wonderful opportunity to go over to see Trooper in Vancouver (we're from Victoria) play live at the Commodore (Ballroom) it was such a great venue bc you had the intimacy of a small local nightclub.. sitting at your own table/ having drinks, but ale to enjoy utilizing the dance floor.. and being up close and personal to the band while playing on stage! boyfriend unabashedly introduced himself/ us and we 5en sat and chatted with Ra for part of the bands break! This all made it quite a *magical evening* for me!❣️it was back around '82 is a special memory I hope to Never lose!😉🤗👍
@@thetechnicalsoul8462 Yes that's a great song
Chilliwack!
I was 19 when this band hit...and 4 years later I'd be jockin' FM radio, and I was always happy when the rotation got back around so "I" could play Loverboy, one of the few rock bands, during that time that crossed over to what was known as "Top 40" everything from Madonna, Lionel Richie, and Billy Idol, to Loverboy...as a rocker still, I'm 62, I surely do enjoy watching you two discover music that was part of our everyday lives, but knew, the ones that were gonna be around for a while...like the Might Led Zepellin, or Sabbath, and DP...thanks for the entertainment!! Rock On
"Working for the Weekend" became a 5 o'clock Friday anthem on many radio stations in Canada for decades.
Loverboy was my first concert at 15yo in the early 80s. What a cool day to experience the sights, sounds and aromas. A sensory overload for sure that I will never forget
Oh wow… we got some serious Amber stank face today! this was great back in the day rollerskating🛼 at the rink.
I bet it was a blast!
Hey guys - just found you today and I can't stop watching!! I saw Loverboy open for ZZTop in Knoxville, Tennessee in the early 80's and I've never forgotten it. "Turn Me Loose" was especially powerful, and you're right, Amber; lead singer Mike Reno could rock him some red leather pants!! The driving urgency Loverboy conveyed when playing this song just had all of us in the aisles...
Loverboy was a great band during the 80's, "Working for the Weekend" is another huge hit by this band that was played a ton on the radio. I think you would enjoy this song as well.
They are a classic feel good rock band. They're originally from Calgary, Alberta but moved to Vancouver, British Columbia.
Loverboy is one of my favorite bands. This was their first top 40 hit, but it didn't get as high as expected. Mike Reno has said that the record label did not promote this song well causing it to underachieve. They did have several more hits including Working For the Weekend (which often gets played on the radio on Fridays), Hot Girls in Love, and Lovin Every Minute of It, to name a few. They still tour -- in fact they are out on tour this year with two other bands, Styx and REO Speedwagon.
That was our jam back in the 1980's. Glad to see the younger set appreciating the music that we all loved back in our day!
Another big hit for them was 'Working for the Weekend'. I remember watching them perform that for Prince Charles and Princess Diana in Vancouver. It's one of those songs that amp you up and you could tell Prince Charles (known not to like rock music) was trying to stay reserved but gave in.
I love your appreciation of all music !! Totally enjoyed your video
I've been waiting for y'all to tap into Loverboy. That whole album is just fire 🔥. Look forward to watching more reactions to these guys.
I got to see them open for Journey in the early 80"s. What a concert!!
Headband man is Mike Reno! He has an amazing voice! If Amber wants something slow by him try Almost Paradise. A duet with Anne Wilson from Heart
That headband look is SYNONYMOUS with Loverboy thanks to Mike Reno. Love it, ha.
This band was the feature in the first concert i ever saw in 1982 when I was 18.
They have been of my favorite bands ever since. So many great hits and albums! ❤ 💙 💜
A very underrated band! They had several really great songs, as other commenters have listed below. Take a dive down that rabbit hole!
Mike Reno can sing! Saw Loverboy in concert in early 80's. Yes, I'm aging myself.
If you want an early 80s classic that is just infectious try Saga “on the loose”…also Canadian
This is the sound track of my adolescence.
This guy can still sing at 70 years old
Just seen them a few weeks ago opening for Sammy Hagar and they sounded great !!!!
You are absolutely right, Mike Reno has an amazing voice and a way underrated vocalist
saw loverboy with joan jett in 1981 and was great.
