- Discussing the Differences between the vvt-i 2jzgte and the non-vvt-i 2jzgte. I am Currently swapping an aristo 2jzgte into a usdm Supra and I am simply sharing what I have learned from my research/personal experience.

It depends on the year of the Aristo, because my aristo is a 92 and that did not have variable valve timing. So because of that a lot more stuff is compatible with the Supra than the newer Aristo models.
Yes this video is referring to vvti aristos because that’s the most common swap for a Supra since vvti didn’t come in the US.
My gte vvti spools real nice 17lbs stock ecu no fuel cut made about 380hp & 385lbs of torque. Ceramics have been good to me

We just bought an Auto 2JZGTE VVTI Aristo.
I’m curious to see what kind of power we can make with a bit of boost and fuel on the stock turbos

Hey i have some questions I have a 93 Aristo non vvti 2jzgte.... my questions are on the stock turbos have you run into any problems?? Like my problem is when I start to boost or accelerate it stutters at 2500 rpms and spools up when you give it more gas. I plan on leaving mine automatic so do you have any ecu recommendations? Last questions do you know any good shops in the So Cal area
Devoverhyped I never actually the stock turbos so I can’t speak on them. And that could really be anything, is it throwing any engine codes? It could be a break up in the fuel, misfire etc. Also I live very far from So Cal so I can’t really give any shop recommendations lol

From what I understand, the biggest difference between the two engines (Early 2J vs Later 2J) is the VVTi addition. An engine with the VVTi addition is most likely interference.

Depends on the car. Do some research on what specific car you plan on swapping into, if it's been done before.
So what engine is actually best? Vvti or non Vvti usdm or jdm? I understand the bottom end is the same.
bryson johnson vvti 2jzgte is the best. Better fuel economy, low end torque, more potential for tuning, less turbo lag etc. A lot of people are making the switch.

bryson johnson since he said the usdm has stronger turbos, and better cams I would guess usdm but not by much I suppose
bryson johnson if you’re gonna do heavy modifications such a single turbo/cams etc. then the vvti 2jzgte is the best. If you’re gonna keep the stock twins then I’d go with the usdm 2jzgte since it has the steel turbo wheels. Then again you could just swap usdm turbos onto a vvti engine...not really sure why anyone would do that tho lol

For 200k I can get a couple of new a90 supras

Wrong. Not all Aristo came with vvti. Only the jzs161 aristos have them. Earlier aristos(jzs147) came with non vvti which is exactly 100% the same engine as the usdm tt supra.
No it's not the cams are different as well as the injectors and turbos lol otherwise it's the same. Usdm tt motors have 550cc injectors, better cams and steel wheel turbos as opposed to ceramic wheel turbos
Jdm motors came with 440cc injectors which is why the jdm motors were all rated at 276 because of the gentlemens agreement in japan where all their cars had to be capped at 276hp. A usdm motor was rated at 320hp. A swap of the cams injectors and turbos and it would be identical
You never had VVTI Supras in the states?
Aristo vvti 2jzgte runs of MAF too. Only JDM nonvvti turbo 1jz/2jz run map.

It does not use a cable. Theres a sensor on the pedal ehich communicate eith the ECU

So basically they are 2 completely different engines
supranut 716 bottom end is the same, that’s really what people care about the most.
Same exact motor literally minus vvti and ceramic wheels turbos. They also came is 98+ supras in japan. The vvti gte was also a supra rz motor people need to realize they are the same dam motor minus injectors ceramic wheels and vvti if comparing to a non vvti motor
And the 99+ supra rz (tt in japan) came with vvti GTEs just like the 98+ aristo. Alot of people misconstrue the vvti gte to ne way different and weaker and that is not the case. It's actually a better motor because of the vvti other than that they're exactly the same minus ceramic wheels bigger injectors in the us and different cams in the us no vvti in the us. Other than that the actual motors are the same exact thing

Okay you are wrong from the beginning in Japan before the mk4 even existed the aristo had both non vvti and vvti variant of the 2jz, look up jz147 & jz161 please a lot of missing information.
Jzkaioshin when did I say the aristo didn’t have the 2jz before the Supra? When did I say the aristo never had the non-vvti engine? I’m referring to the vvt-I 2jzgte out of a 98+ aristo and the non-vvti 2jzgte out of the usdm Supra.
Jzkaioshin and the aristo was not available with the vvti 2jzgte until the 98’ model year. The mk4 was around for the 93 model year.

PTL FG2 it’s funny because he claims the aristo had the vvti and non vvti 2jz before the Supra even existed...the first aristo to have a vvti 2jz was in 1998. The Supra came out in 1993....
1WickedSupra I think he was referring to the aristo being the first car to feature the 2jz gte engine. But he is wrong because you never said that. I’ve been working on 1jz and 2jz for 15 years and I think you did a great job explaining the motors !! One thing you forgot was the water pumps are different as well. As far as the 2jz history the aristo had the 2jzgte first then the Supra. And then in 1999 to 2002 the Supra’s came with the VVTi 2jz and that’s what I have in my 2000 quick silver Supra
