I love watching all of you and Shadows adventures! I would love to find things like that one day.
Stay safe and thank you for sharing with everyone 🙏♥️
Thanks so much for coming along! 😎
You are a wonderful inspiration! Get out and live life….Viva Capri!
Thanks so much! Shadow is my inspiration. He just loves life and going on our adventures of exploration. I just follow him! Lol
Very fun to see your polished finds. I once read an article about a seam of turquoise up near pine valley area. That was like twenty years ago. I wonder if it could be that bluer stuff you found. Well any way looks like you and your buddy had a hood time. 😊
Thanks Colleen! We did have a good time! 😎
All my stars have aligned, so next year I’ll be ready to head out west and rockhound
Awesome!
Have you tried slabbing some of that stuff for cabs? Suggest perhaps sending some to Lapidary Dave, hes very good at doing the cab thing, unless you do it yourself, in which case, I would love to see!
Give Shadow a skritch for me...and im subscribing. ;)
I slab but I don’t do anything further. Great idea on sending some to Lapidary Dave! Really great idea!!! Thanks and I will do that.
Wow! So this Chalcedony seems to blend into the Olivine & produce a greenish Chalcedony. This would explain why there are so many colors. I believe this Volcanic type is of a higher M.O.H. rating, by the fact that the crystallization of it is so dence & compacted suddenly, under the highest of temperatures & pressure.
That is really insightful! Thanks for the comment. My knowledge only goes so far and comments like yours help shed light on things at a deeper level. Thanks!
We really enjoy your videos. Your rocks have a very nice shine to them. Could you maybe do a video on how you do it and what you use. Thank you
Hi Ellen! I did make a video on the first three stages. It’s called “Rockhounding 101.” I still need to make one on the final stage. Your comment has inspired me to get to it! Please watch the Rockhounding 101 to get an introduction. Thanks! 😊
@@adventuresofshadowdog thank you, we will🤠
Thank you. we watched "Rockhounding 101, my husband wanted to know
When you do the stage one grit do you run it for a month with the same grit or do you change it out each week and put new water and grit?
@adventuresofshadowdog
A lot depends on the rocks I’m tumbling. First, assuming we are tumbling agates or jaspers, which are quite hard at about 7.5 on the mohs scale, I plan on at least 10-14 days in stage one. I’m so busy that they usually are in the tumbler for the 14 days before I check them. By checking, I mean rinse the old grit off and examine them. Usually I fine they need longer, but that can be subjective depending upon what you personally want to see in the final product. If they need more, I add fresh water and new grit and run them another 10-14 days. Sometimes they need yet another stage one run. Once I’m satisfied with the shape and size and so forth, I run stages 2-4 pretty much by the book. 7-10 days in stage 2, 7-10 days in stage 3, and 5-7 days in stage 4 with some ceramic pellets added to buffer them some. I only use ceramic pellets in the final stages and I rinse them off and reuse them. Plastic pellets work too. One last thing: after the final stage, I rinse them off really good and then run them through about 3-4 hours again with a few chips of bar soap. That cleans all the polishing compound off really nicely. Use cheap bar soap without lotions and other stuff. Cheap plain old fashioned bar soap. And then finally, after rinsing all the soap off and after drying them and letting them air dry for a good while, I buff them with a micro fiber cloth. That puts the final shine on them!
That was a fun adventure! The sunset was the cherry on top. ❤ My bucket list has grown. Need some of that banded hematite.
Search around the gunlock reservoir. Lots of banded hematite around there. Thanks for watching!
Good video my friend! Always nice looking at the final end results in rocks I worked so hard to find & polish.👍
Thanks as always! 😎
Is Holt Canyon a claim site or can anybody rock hound there? Thanks for your videos Lance.
There are some claims up there but for different minerals. The owner of the claim told a few people I know that he doesn’t mind Rockhounding. The Cedar City Rock and Mineral club just Rockhounded there two weeks ago. I hope this helps! 😎
Very good. It's nice to see the polished results.
Thanks! 😊
I've had a few from Eastern Wa. but not in Western Wa. where I live. Thanks.
May I ask you are you near Mountain meadows?
Yes! East side of hwy18.
Shadow is quite the rock star❤😂
I have to agree! 😎
What you found at ten minutes in is something I’ve been finding in one small area in Nevada… and I don’t know exactly what these rocks are called but there is tons of stuff in these rocks that is incredibly beautiful just like that. I’m trying to do some more research on it, but don’t know exactly where to look. Thank you for this video because it at least tells me that I might be able to find some information on it!
Also… Love how Shadow “helps”! 😂
Hi Angela! Let me know if I can help you identify or figure things out. That’s exciting you found something similar! 😎
Lance you do a GREAT job. I look forward to next years family vacation to Utah and an opportunity to meet you and Shadow in person.
Thank you so much, Michael! Likewise I look forward to meeting in person. 😎
Enjoying your videos so much. I learn, I smile, and I feel like I’m going with you on your adventures. Please keep them coming. Thank you😊
That makes me very happy! And Shadows tail is wagging like a fan! 😎
hi Lance, some of de stones look like the nebulas if put on the light. All little pilars of creations and dark nebulas, no need for fancy and expensive equipment to enjoy. Thanks for the video. Saludos from Spain, Rob.
Rob, I have often thought the same thing! I might do a video sometime comparing them. I think it would be interesting for people. I hope all is well with you!
Always look forward to your videos and adventures. Really inspired my rockhounding interests. Thank you for sharing your travels and time.
Thanks so much for the encouraging comment. They really help keep me going. Shadow too!
I’d be curious if sunlight plays a part in changing the color of certain minerals. Years ago I had seen a video on Amethyst. A piece was left on a windowsill after a year it had turned green
I know the sun can fade away color but can it change the color?
Yes, actually, the sun can fade amethyst and some other minerals. I recall reading that. As for changing colors, I will assume the answer is yes. But I do not know for sure. That’s a great question! Maybe somebody who knows will read your comment and inform us. Thanks for watching!
Hi there! Yes i actually saw a video where the uv rays of the sun removes the purple colour totally! Some gemstones can turn from green to orange as well, super interesting! So i suppose amethyst shouldnt be kept in the sun 😉
Thanks for the comment and the additional information! Very helpful. 🙏
@@adventuresofshadowdog hahaha thanks, im also a newbie and cant get enough! I learn a lot from your videos, excellent content and very relaxing! I love Shadow, i also have 2x jack russels, very busy!
Hello from a fan in Cedar city!
Question about the puck light you use in this video. Can you give details about where to purchase one? I'm polishing Brian Head agates that my grandchildren collection on a trip with me. I would love to include a light with the rocks when I gift them to them at Christmas.
I look forward to each new video you produce. Thanks!
Hey Darren! It’s an “Ifolaina LED light base” sold on Amazon. They cost about $14. Here’s a link: a.co/d/0zUhLCO
I hope this helps!
It's really a great place for rock hunting. The purple olivine rock was interesting. A beautiful sunset view and vivid patterns of tumbled rocks... Thanks for the enjoyable video.❤
Thank You for watching and for the nice comment! 😎
I like how you ended this one with images, like you do with the astrophotography videos. Creation is extraordinary, on the micro and macro level!
Thanks! I’ll try to do that more often. 😎
This had the best visual I’ve seen of Chalcedony formations!
Same for me!
nice specimens you got there. i love Shadow’s outfit😊
Thanks Sonya! That’s Shadow’s Coyote Vest I made for him. I have to keep him safe from predators because I couldn’t bear it if something got him. And he helps keep me safe with his excellent eyes and ears. 👂 👀
What is that blue bar you use for digging, I’m older and don’t want to be bending over all the time.
It’s made by Estwing. It’s a pry bar on one end and a poker on the other. About 18” long. I “think” I bought it at Ace some years ago.
Just got back from Brian head and can’t wait to get tumbling
Awesome!
I’d be like my husband in a casino…… nobody would be able to get me to leave that area!! Haha
That is actually very funny! 😂
Wow! Beautiful purples and greens! Wondering if the rough might react under UV light? The sunset was spectacular and you are a tumbler master. All the rocks you showed came out really nice! I especially liked the Hope Canyon jaspers👍
Thanks! I have used a low frequency UV light and the crusts on the outside of the chalcedony and parts of the host rock do react. The reaction is a deep reddish glow. The chalcedony itself does not react. Any thoughts?

Enjoy the videos but how many TICKS?
Believe it or not, I have never had a tick in Utah or Arizona or Nevada. They are here, but I’ve never picked one up. Back when I lived in Ohio and Kentucky, I picked up my fair share. Maybe I’ve just been lucky. Or maybe there just aren’t as many. Shadow gets his monthly flea and tick med, so he never gets them. Maybe his meds are rubbing off on me when he snuggles with me in the camper! 😂
Enjoyed your video. Love the Alaska hat too.
Thanks! I lived in Alaska when I was younger. Graduated from Bartlett High-school in Anchorage. Love Alaska! ❤️
I always enjoy your videos and finds. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much, Eric! That means a lot to me. 😎
I really enjoyed this video and all of the colors you and Shadow found! The tumbled rocks were gorgeous! ❤
Thanks Dee Dee! Always good to hear from you! 😎
@@adventuresofshadowdog always good to see and hear from you too! 🤗
Another great video lance,I’ve got to get down there and have shadow show me around
Thanks! Come on down!
Beautiful, what area are you looking in now?
This area is between Enterprise, UT and Central, UT, on the East side of HWY 18. Happy to send coordinates. Shoot me at email: Lancesnarr@gmail.com.
Another fabulous gift you shared with us, my friend! Thank you!
Hi Marla! Thanks and my best to Richard! 😎
@@adventuresofshadowdog he replied to you on your neighborhood post
At 29:00 you're showing a slice of chalcedony with matrix. Looks like a thick potato chip. I'd trim it up slightly and cab right over the attached host to reveal the chalcedony in organic shaped Windows in the shape. Then polish it and sensational!
Then the bit chip at the end is unbelievable. Thats a ooak statement necklace pendant.
That’s way above my pay grade! It sounds beautiful. I think you should have that one. I’ll send it to you!
Lance, your big tumblers are incredible !! They formed organic shaped powerful looking rocks. They have a Suiseki feeling about them when they are big. I need a 12lbs. Tumbler on my wish list, now.
Love your videos; especially narration. I also am here in St. Geo. & hound some of the same turf! Would like to see your reviews of larger tumblers & grit suppliers. I am @ that frustrated/disappointed stage of tumbling! 😊
Judy, I was planning on doing a review on my tumblers, which are all Lortone, and then Lortone went out of business! Ugh. 😩
One of my tumblers is down right now and needs a new motor, which last about a year at the pace i use them, and so I’m searching for a new brand and supplier right now myself. Stay tuned and I’ll try to do a video when I find a good supplier. Thanks for the idea and for watching!
Just back from a days outing including Holt Canyon.😊
Awesome! Did you find the gorgeous jaspers up holt canyon?
Question, why wouldn't Petrified Wood end up being without color or of a differnt color other then brown, black or white? It's like some of the tree's D.N.A. is still in the chert? Shadow has trained you well! 😂
That is an excellent question. I will try to research that. Thanks for raising the question as now I too am very curious. And YES, Shadow keeps me on a tight leash! 😂
Petrified wood can be colorless. And it’s known in many colours. Look up rainbow wood from the Petrified Forest, it’s stunning.
Thank you! I will do that!
I assume you aren't able to say what general location you are at?
I am happy to give you the exact coordinates! Send me an email and I’ll reply. Lancesnarr@gmail.com
Wow, nice finds! & Polished so beautiful 😍 & you were so calm when lost, I would have freaked out 🤯
Hahaha! I wasn’t actually lost lost, in that I did know which direction I needed to go to get to HWY 18, where I was parked close by. BUT, I was lost in the sense of not realizing how far I had actually gone. That did have me worried about getting back before dark. 🤪 Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment!

@@adventuresofshadowdog Glad you guys got home safe with your Fab finds 👍
Looks like some Camp Verde material...
I have never been there but would like to go. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I've been allowed to hunt on some claims there. And these amazing people are helping me set up a claim too, cuz I'm new to that part. There's amazing material off the claims too. Let me talk with them today and I will definitely get back to you. 🤙
Awesome! Thanks!
