Dark Sky Astrophotography Camping: Imaging The Embryo Nebula (NGC 1333)
Imaging NGC 1333, The Embryo Nebula, is an astrophotography challenge. This feint, dark nebula hides a cluster of hot, newly born stars. To image it, we travel to and camp under Bortle 3 skies and where the elevation is higher. Sitting around the campfire, we talk about NGC 1333: A thick, dark nebula comprised of space dust and gasses providing the perfect environment for new star creation. Because it is dark and feint, it is a challenging object for astrophotographers. I was very pleased with how this image turned out and submitted it for a NASA APOD (astronomy picture of the day). Crossing my fingers!

Spectacular Agate Of Brian Head Peak! How It Formed?
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Місяць тому
Surrounding Brian Head Peak and the adjacent Cedar Breaks National Monument are fields and hills full of brilliant, sometimes enormous, Agates. In this video we do a deep dive in how the Agate found here was formed. Unlike much of the chalcedony, agates, jaspers, found in the Southern Utah Region, the agate in this area was not formed within volcanic rock. Rather, it was formed within a limesto...

Come along an Astrophotography Journey of Discovery as we explore "space dunes." On earth we have sand dunes. Likewise, in space there are huge "dunes" of nebulae piled light years high, having been blown by powerful stellar winds from new stars and dying stars alike. These "space dunes" are found in many deep space objects that we can see and image through astrophotography. In this video we im...

Unveiling Saturn's Majesty - Capturing The Ringed Giant Through Astrophotography

This is a good time to do Astrophotography of Saturn because Saturn is in Opposition AND Saturn is the closest it will be to earth for a year. In this video, we explain what "opposition" means; we discuss a myriad of facts about Saturn; and we discus the difficult nature of imaging planets. Astrophotography is hobby of progression, not perfection. I was somewhat happy with the two images we cap...

Absolutely beautiful! Hopefully I can see the meteor shower tonight 🙏♥️ You can never put a price on times like this. The best things in life are priceless! Tell Shadow hello and he looks spectacular 🙏 Stay safe and thank you again.
Thanks and Shadow’s rail is wagging with delight! 😎🐶🐾
Great image Lance!
Thanks! It was a challenge for sure in post processing. 😎🐶
What campground?
Beautiful image Lance!! Sorry you had that counterweight bar strike on your table and lost imaging time! Hopefully no problems with the mount. Maybe check your backlash. I bet it’s ok though. Also glad it didn’t knock over your table and computer! Hey, I think Shadow was busy looking for me 😉 Cheers! Doug
Shadow is always looking for you now. I’ve been trumped! Lol. Thanks for watching and commenting! Live your channel @astroAF!
That looked like a fun adventure for you and Shadow. So many simple things that can go wrong while imaging.
Yes there are! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. 😎😂
Engaging, informative, and entertaining. Appreciate all the details as well as your insight and opinion. Overall, great job!
Thanks! I really appreciate the nice comment. 🐶😎
Shadow is adorable! ❤❤
I read your comment to Shadow and his tail is wagging away in delight. Thanks! 🐶🐾😎
Similar structures in that area are where mineral deposits occurred. Mysterious vertical solution pipes that were replaced or filled with mineral deposits. As far as I know, no one knows the exact mechanism. The copper deposits in Parashant NM are that type of deposit. I didn’t know about this one but there’s another one on the road to Little Finland that is fenced off.
You are a wealth of knowledge! Thanks for taking the time to leave this helpful and informative comment. And as always, it’s good to hear from you! 😎🐶
@ thanks Lance. You too are are wealth of information. I thought the sink hole in Gold Butte NM was unique but you have shown me that there is at least one more. I wonder if I can’t locate more using Google Earth? (I know I said the other hole was In Parashant but it might be in Gold Butte instead, not sure of which. Probably Gold Butte.)
If you need coordinates to this one please let me know.
@ that outdoor be great. I’d like to see if I can spot it from Google Earth.
The red, if only on the surface could be an algae.
Now that is very interesting. Makes me want to go back and take a sample. Just to satisfy my curiosity.
@@adventuresofshadowdog I had an agate sample that glowed a nice red under UV. It was like, oh wow. What can that be. Turned out to be lichen.
I like the caption "sea maggot" 🤣
Hahaha! It does sound like that. 🤪😎🐶
Shadow is a good boy! 🥰
Ruff Ruff! Shadow’s tail is happily wagging! 🐶🐾😎
What is the daily limit? How many pounds?
If you Google: “BLM rockhounding daily limit” you’ll find the answer. It’s kinda ambiguous so I leave it to each to interpret it. I hope this helps!
Truly enjoyed this video. How fascinating!! Thank you
Thanks as always @Grandmasrockin!
Hi Lance! Great video and death defying scenes ... especially Shadow, the precarious pup! For a few years, I've been mapping sinkholes, landslides and land fissures on Google Earth, trying to see if there's any correlation to fault lines. I discovered that amongst the many dynamics of sinkhole formation, many sinkholes trend along fault lines -- weak points. Also, sinkholes, landslides and land fissures are found all over the basin and range province -- all indicators of crustal spreading/thinning. Total geekiness but so fascinating to me. Thanks for the sinkhole excursion and take care!
That is fascinating! Thanks for taking the time to leave this comment. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and wish you a Very Merry Christmas! Shadow sends his best wishes too. 🐶😎🐾
The Red coloration is iron oxide from decomposed pyrite
Brilliant! Thank You!!!😎🐶⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’d cut it!
I believe you could! Just jumped on your channel and saw some of your work. Way above my pay grade! Awesome stuff.
Nice
Thank You! 😎🐶
Thank you, have a blessed day
Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
Because of y’all I bought a Capri. We pick it up in January. Y’all are awesome. Love the adventures. Maybe one of these days our dogs can play together!! 🙌🏻
That is awesome! What model did you pick? Shadow and I would love to meet up sometime. 😎🐶
@ well after making a midnight run to Texas (🤣) I fell in love with the midsized retreat. So we are going that route.
That’s awesome! I’m so happy for y’all!
Nice new Crosstrek! Congrats on the Subie and hope Shadow approve?!! Looks like you went South while I went North to look for rockhounding adventures! We'll have to take a short drive to a new cool spot near Newcastle sometime soon (Green Beryl)!
Yes for sure! I don’t know where I got the idea of buying a Subaru. Do you? 🤪
@@adventuresofshadowdog I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! We'll have to plan a joint roadtrip some weekend soon!
Hi Lance it's your friends lisa/lola/ Raul. I think that other red stuff on the wall besides the tire, and the soda can on the wall is spray paint, tagger lol. Shadow is so cool looking in that little hole he smelt something we're glad you got him out of there but no stones worth collecting but nice sink hole buddy b careful talk to you soon
Thanks guys! I look forward to rockhounding with y’all again soon! 🐶😎
Hi Lance, it's Dee Dee. I could go rockhounding with you. The fascination is there, however, I would not walk down into that hole! 🤣 Keep up the good work, my friend.
Thanks Dee Dee! Let’s go sometime. Shoot me an email and we can follow-up. Lancesnarr@gmail.com
You two are a great example of the “pioneer spirit” I love to tag along…..
Thanks! We love to have you tag along! 😎🐶
@ I emailed you a picture of a rock that I found on the beach in Malibu ca for help identifying. Thank you
I’ll respond! I run about 4-5 days slow on emails at times due to travel. I look forward to seeing the rock!
I saw one similar on Trek Planner I believe. Ty for posting !
Thanks for watching and commenting! 😎🐶
Hello Brother, seems like blood has littered the sandstone… You are right ~ why would someone use their misfortune of a flat for a tire*d azz 😉 New Subscriber 👍💘🌞
So glad to have you come along! Thanks! 😎🐶
Drunkards grab live rattlesnakes hold them close to their face to show their buddies. Then as the snake twists and turns the man loses control. The snake strikes the closest head, gets the subject in the face or neck. Old rural ER nurse says, "By the time they Fly them to a tertiary hospital they're not doing so good."
Yikes!
Regarding staying in cell service range...If you travel in remote areas you should consider a Garmin Explorist + or something similar. It is "Sat Device" that you can send text messages that includes an SOS button. You can also use their app to connect a smart phone to write and send a text message thru the device. You seem like a tech guy so kind of surprised you aren't already using this type of device. Enjoyed your video especially the sunset at the end. Safe travels
Thanks so much for taking the time to type out this very thoughtful comment. I did indeed recently purchase a satellite phone that also has a distress emergency button in case a person cannot talk. They have come way down in price to the point that it wasn’t a whole lot more than the Garmin product that only allowed texting. Both are good products. Again, thank you! 🙏😎🐶
@@adventuresofshadowdog I understand that you are into astronomy. I have a entry level "Orion Star Blast" telescope with a Gosky 1.25-Inch Premium Telescope Accessory Kit (Silver)- 5pcs Plossl Eyepiece Set, 7pcs Filter Set, 2X Barlow Lens and a carry bag. I would like to donate all of it to a local astronomy club or a high school or college. I bought all of this in the Fall of 2021 and soon discovered I didn't have the needed passion to get serious. Anyway, if you know of any group or organization I could donate this to would be great...Thanks!
My dogs will dig in certain spots in my yard that eventually yield a big rock or something. I swear they can tell when there’s something there.
It’s uncanny how they do that! Thanks for sharing that. 🐶😎
I'm not a geologist but the rock formation looks like volcanic tuff or breccia due to a pyroclastic flow.
It does resemble tuff a lot. You might be right! Thanks for sharing that. 😎🐶
Go look at MUDFOSSIL university guys He who sees the world as a CORPSE
You are looking at biology in geology And again you are stood on bedrock down there
Very interesting. Thanks! 😎🐶
Show me a true sink hole with a bedrock floor lol
All I know is they call it a sink hole. 🤪
Garnets are great. It's windy in thar hills!
Yes and Yes! The garnets were worth putting up with the wind though. But it was Windy! 😎🐶

Some thousands of years from now, archeologists of the future will be studying cave graffiti… Beautiful vistas! Cheers! Doug
Haha! I wonder what they’ll think? 🤔 🤪
Great stuff. Love Shadow!
Thanks and Shadow barks “ditto” back at ya! 🐶😎
Hi do not think your dog is safe from coyote's they will attack from front and the others will bite the dog in the ass and kill him. That's what they do
Another nice adventure. Beautiful sky, evening sky, and no inversion.😊
Hi Collene! No inversion is right! Thanks as always for watching and commenting. 🐶😎
Thank you for sharing this awesome place. I truly wish some people would have respect for places and if they don't? They need to have severe consequences with Prison time and hefty fines. I also wish there were more jobs for rangers to patrol hourly and take information of campers and visitors. There's no reason anyone should vandalize anything! Just my opinion and thoughts.
I couldn’t agree more! These are public lands and should be respected by everybody for everybody and future generations. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🙏😎🐶
I love exploring area's like this. I usually do with a buddy though. Never know, you could fall, break an ankle or something.
I know! I know! I do carry a satellite phone on me when out of cell range and try to be careful. But it’s always better to be with somebody. No doubt. Thanks as always for watching and commenting! 🐶😎
@@adventuresofshadowdog 😉👍
They don't always rattle.
I suppose you’re right. Thank you for clarifying that. And thanks for watching! 😎🐶
You're a good man Lance, keep Shadow safe....thanks for the adventure
Thank you so very much and I will keep Shadow safe! 🐶😎🐾
Do you know if anyone has investigated if that sinkhole leads to a cave system? Live your videos!
There is very little info on that sink hole. I’ve googled and tried to learn more. But nothing comes up except that it exists. Strange! Thanks for watching! 😎🐶
The grandma in me needs to ask. You do let someone know where you are going?!? I’m not that adventurous to walk in a sinkhole!
He should let me know where he's going but I would just head out there and join him. 😄
I do let one of my kids know generally where I’m going and I also carry a satellite 🛰️ phone for when I’m out of range. But I also know it’s always better to have company. Thank you for your concern. I’ll be careful! 🙏😎🐶
@CurrentlyRockhounding I will do that! I can’t think of another person on earth I’d rather Rockhound or explore with! 😎🐶
@CurrentlyRockhounding let’s get together! I would love to visit and see your Lapidary shop.

What kind of tumbler would you recommend? Great trip…I thought that i had watched all of your videos until I found this little gem….get it?
I always bought Lortone tumblers and had great success with them. However, they have recently gone out of business. I heard somebody purchased them and was going to reopen the business. You might try their website to see if it’s active again. If not, I’m in the same boat as you and will be looking for a good tumbler maker. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
