TRANQUILITY 19L on the 4x4 Sprinter by Thor could be serious competition for Winnebago's well received Revel adventure van.

When you tried to put the step for getting into the bed back in, you could see it moving around, also when you pressed on the wall next to the toilet paper holder and the wall moved you could see it was exactly what you expect from a Thor product. Take this off road and it will fall apart, leaving pieces on the trail behind. No positive lock on the cabinets and when you see propane you have to think Thor's marketing department isn't doing any focus groups. Cabinets in the back block the view if you are looking out the back of the van. Swing and a miss. Check out Storyteller's videos and you will see a vast difference in build quality, modular components, no propane, etc...

Can’t be a Revel killer if it has a LP tank.
You are absolutely right! A van like this needs lithium until you can't put any more in it, diesel heat/water heater, lose the l.p., induction cooktop, 3k inverter, 2nd alternator dedicated to charging house batteries, convection microwave and a fresh water tank of significant size.

At that price point, build custom. Only 100k more no biggie.
The main reasons I chose a Winnebago Revel over this: movable bed makes back end into multi-use space. I also can put a bike under the bed and then sleep on bed without it all the way down Winnebago revel more off road and can go more places. Revel NO propane! Don’t have to find places to fill tank. Everything runs off diesel: hot water, heat, engine. Simply more simple.

Not a Revel killer, but the revel is also $60k more.
Just took delivery of this bad boy and been enjoying it. We got the 2023 year model 19p with lithium. We went camping a week ago to test her out and was great, that lithium was nice!!. YOLO!! No regrets.

5000 mile update:
After changing out the wheels and tires, adding sumo bump stops, installing the Owl spare tire carrier, modifying the Thule bike rack into a ice chest/water container carrier , and ironing out a few small interior issues, we love this van. The Sprinter platform is a pleasure to drive and for two of us plus two dogs, meets our needs perfectly. Once you get used to the cramped space, and learn to work around it, everything is fine. The fit and finish is somewhat to be desired, but for the savings, I'm fine with it. Besides I'm a journeyman carpenter. If it fails, I'll change it. For 40,000$ below the competition , leaves enough on the table to make it a good deal.

Guess we'll have to see if it's a Revel killer, but I would certainly choose a Revel over this. I like the cab area as you mentioned not being cramped, but when you turn around, the back looks totally cramped with that large fridge and tall bed. The bathroom is too busy for my liking (take the sink and medicine cabinets out please, for more room!!!). However I will say that at least they make it a bit more compact than other brands that have those things in the bathroom.
One of Revel's defining features is the lifting bed so you can store gear in the back. Can't do that here, although they do give you the bike rack on the back and some slide out trays, but certainly not enough interior space for gear I would take adventuring.
I understand liking the side facing workspace in the front to see out the side, but personally I rather have my back to the bathroom wall rather than having it on my right and the seat to the left, making it feel like I'm sitting in a little cubby. Sitting forward lets me have the window to the left, the side door to the right, and the windshield in front (three viewpoints).
My dream van would have the Solis interior + pop top on a Sprinter 4x4 chassis.
Unfortunately the market likes bigger and bigger refrigerators, which is crazy to me. If you're a family of 6+ I can understand needing a larger fridge to feed all those people for days, but so many people either A. buy and store more food than they need, as if they were going into the deep wilderness for weeks on end without coming out, B. Have things in their fridge that don't get used for months (think of all the refrigerators you've seen chock full of bottles and condiments and stuff that never gets used) or C. Buy so much food that much of it goes to waste before it can get used. So many things can be stored out of the fridge like rice, pasta, bread, most fruits/vegetables that the main things you should be storing in the fridge anyway are meats, dairy, open bottles of perishables, things like that.

Like you, I love that side seat facing out. A couple years back, I had an idea to to the same thing with the Travato GL. That space can become a mini love seat. It might be a great project if/when used travatos ever come back down in price. The same project could be done on a Revel. But unfortunately, the Revel does NOT come with much of a lithium package. Not enough for long dry camping, anyway. And a retrofit would be incredibly expensive. Thanks again for showing us these different floor plans. It’s great to get perspective.

I looked at one of these. The build didn’t feel sturdy and the bed was for a single person. Minus a gear garage = not a Revel killer.

Would be good for a weekend or short time camping, but not for full time, but I don't full time... would be worth considering. I had a sprinter 2500 and really liked it, easy to park and great on the road.

Nice overview of the Tranquillity. Looked like it had some nice features and way to go for the La Mesa rep to give out his cell number even if a work cell! I kept wondering what that glass/acrylic shelf was under the microwave? Maybe a place to put your cell phone when charging from the USB outlet? Sorry I got distracted by the small details. It may be a Revel contender for those who like the option of having the bed in a fixed position. But for those people who buy the Revel for the inside garage storage with the bed that lifts and lowers to store their bikes or equipment inside I think they would still choose the Revel. Overall nice unit with some good features. Love the sponge drawer.
The glass panel over the stove blocks the heat etc from getting to the overhead cabinet. Our Travato also has this protective panel.

Thank you for sharing a peak inside. Two features I liked was the seat and lagun table upfront, and the storage under the bed, the quality is not upto par with the price. I'm a single senior and wrestling with that bottom drawer/step to get in and out of bed would get old real quick. I know 19' is short, but the space inside this model is simply to tight.

I like the fresh water lockout and the sideway seating mini sofa.
Does that mini sofa turn into bed?
The actual bed does not look big enough to sleep sideways. Seems like the blinds are going to make that difficult. I like the flip down sink in the bathroom. I did not like the loose wably bathroom panel. Looks like it could be a problem with water leaking.

Good morning, Scott! I know for sure that I would kick those bed window treatments to junk in short order. THOR, get rid of them and come up with something better, like nothing to get in the way of my head or feet. I don't want be worrying all night long that I'm going to trash window treatments for such a high dollar coach. Just do a dark window tint and call it done. Love the rear, overland style, storage setup. Like the seating orientation behind the driver seat. That works!! MB is not my thing, as I don't like the fact that you cannot idle a diesel engine for the lithium battery recharge. This can only be done rolling down the road. Pass...If only Ford could create the front cab space of the MB....That would be huge, in my book. Nice review...

If you are willing to go with a cassette toilet, why not make it removable like a composting can be for a full size shower in a smaller space?
Why hasn’t anyone invented the fold down potty? 🤷🏻♀️
A toilet seat folds down similar to a fold down sink, just the seat part-instead of a stationary ‘bowl’ more of a an anti microbial silicone/rubber type ‘shoot’ that empties and gets spayed clean as it’s raised to fold back into the wall💡any genius engineers out there?
Perhaps it could even be a diverter style, or disposable liner bags I know there’s a standard style bowl using a twist seal bag flush style already--not as green as a composting diverter
As far as the extra seating why not have seatbelts for forward facing and just move the backrest for side seating-is it just me?

I do like the look of the Thor cabinets, but I don't have the warm fuzzies about the build quality of their vans. Love the garage, but as is the case with the Bs to gain one feature you trade another. In this case not a lot of seating space. But I guess the target market would be out hiking, skiing, etc and just come back to sleep. so maybe that wouldn't matter so much.

Interesting van...So how do you get around the NHTSA for the bench seating since it is facing out to the sliding door? Are you not able to have passengers? Just the one seat by the driver?
Practical if it's just you and someone else, but not if you want anyone else to ride along due to safety

I think the shiny cabinets look like cheap plastic. That’s why we went with the matte walnut in the Travato. But that’s just me. Some people like them. And I would want the gear garage. That builtin wouldn’t cut it for me. I don’t know if you follow Van Trekking Lifestyle, but Owen & Lynn went from a Travato K to a Revel and they created a little seating area in the back. It’s a nice little lounge. You can do a lot of things in that garage. But I didn’t think that the built-ins held enough to make it worth considering. Even with the cool cubbies in the back.

The quality is about on par with what I expect from Thor... that is to say... meh.
The price for what you get is too high though. Yes, I know it is next to impossible to get new RV builds with all the chip and supply problems, so supply and demand, I guess. But in regular times, just too high for the build quality. As you said... bathroom doesn't work for me.
I do like the rear storage design better than the Revel, but that's just me. Also like that front sofa seat design. That said, I could see others preferring the Revel layout.
Lithium system MUCH better than the Revel, so that is a big plus.

I like it; swap the propane for Induction and I think Thor with Lithium would steal some Revel sales. Personally I think Embassy Traveler has them both beat 👍

Purchased a 19L a few weeks ago. After a couple small issues, things are working great. I personally like the layout better than the Revel. Honestly I think the fit and finish on the Revel is probably better , but for 50,000.00 less, I couldn't resist. We'll see how things age. I definitely wouldn't buy another van from LaMesa RV. 0 customer support.

as stated in many other comments, this isn't a Revel killer. while I like the Thor's interior design better (than the Revel), what sold me the Revel is the movable bed and the flexibility this brings. this is still the number 1 thing that separates the Revel from all competitors. And if you want this flexibility, the Revel is the only choice, even if it would come seconds in all other aspects.
Also, the Revel comes standard with LED headlights. they are awesome. Not sure if they are an option in the Thor but the one in the review didn't have them

Love your channel, great content. No reflection on you .Thor and revel are expensive plastic pos . If you want quality, reliability and capability . Go look up any small builder , they live in them , and been doing it for years . There are plenty on UA-cam. Stay away from big corporations. They know how to make money. Not 4x4 vans .
Good luck getting one from a small builder at the moment. I like them too but small builders like Storytellers and the like have a 2+ year waiting list, are more expensive, and if one happens to pop up on the market used, they are as expensive if not moreso than new

@@williamreynolds5209 Small builders tend to focus on that quality and uniqueness moreso than pushing out numbers, so they have fewer units. With today's demand they're certainly backed up more than the bigger brands because of that. That was my point. I am in a Winnebago Solis because of all the floorplans on the market, this one I liked the most. If a small brand made it, I would have gone with that. To each their own!
Thx for being part of my amazing Audience Friends W R … you bring up intersting points. Balance of build VS bucks is a tough one. All things being equal I’d recommend getting a rig that enables most of your WHY to RV and get underway to experience the joys… Rigs are like houses, rarely find the perfect one, but one always provides great memories.
NOT a Revel killer but Jayco/Tiffin just released what could be a Revel killer. It's all electric with a larger capacity battery pack and a DC powered A/C. They just started shipping , would love to see you get your hands on one of those for a walk through.

Nice concept, but need some improvements such as the alternative electric range (can have an outside LP stove or something outside the box), not fan of the bath and not been able to raise the bed…but any competition is welcome…

Seating placement is nice. Doesn’t seem good for full time. Seems tighter than Revel inside. Needs more electrical power (Volta system is the best). Time to drop the propane. Thanks for sharing

I think there is another with different floor plan that have sofa in the back that one I think is much nicer and roomier.
You are correct on an additional floor plan. That is the floor plan with photos on Thor’s website, while the 19L has none. LOL
Unfortunately, the build quality is way below the industry average on both Tranquility and Sanctuary products. We looked at three identical 19P floor plans at the same lot, the shower door would not shot correctly and the contact paper was coming off the paneling behind the driver. The ceiling panel was dangling from one corner directly over the door entry. The salesperson's response to my comment regarding our observations was, and I quote "Well, there are some issues at this price point". If the cosmetic items are so low in build quality, I can't imagine what it might look like behind the walls, stuff I can't see. Then there are some really poor option items, they offer an 11K Lithium-ion battery pack, but you can't order it with an induction cooktop.

The bottom of the cabinet. Would suck to have a door screen with an easy path in for bugs where you store your shoes.

Thor seems to make cheap knockoffs of everyone else’s designs but without the lower price point. This has such a narrow feel in the aisle. Not a fan of any other their B vans.

OK, so, Thor quality (I see issues), solid floorplan/storage, but less modability than Revel. I think in this market - given equivalent wait-times, I'm in the STO camp. Thanks for sharing it, though.

Nice -- one problem I forsee: Cooking on the propane stove burner closest to the door with the screen door ---- gust of wind causes the screen to billow in ---- POOF! HUGE problem/liability for Thor. If you are where it's hot, there's bugs and you want to cook .... No bueno. Not an "if", it's a "when". Thor should change that immediately. Shoulda, coulda, woulda put an induction stovetop in on this layout. There is zero space between that second burner and the screen. Better to have put a second solar panel on the roof and keep it safe with induction.
My propane burner is 12” from screen door and 6” from coats hanging. No problems to report
The key thing about Revel is dual pain window and seems to be better 4 season

Fwd facing 2ndary seating prevents motion sickness in transit in revel. The "garage" of the revel wins it. The price kills it for me for both, but I recall buying $10k luxury cars. Shouldn't have to sell your home to travel. Rather have a Bronco raptor with motorcycle camper trailer

Not impressed with the build quality at all. From your short video you noted the magnetic screen was misaligned, the bathroom panels had a lot of flex, the window treatments had exposed seems and flex, the bed step up wasn’t on slides and was difficult to push/pull, the lagun table presses into the driver seat back, not sure where your supposed to sit to see the TV, the kitchen cabinets have no positive latching, and I don’t believe we saw a fridge. All in all, I prefer the layout to the Revel, despite it being very crowded.
I agree with all of these points...it's simply to tight for me, and the quality vs the price is not a match.

Thx Scott! As for the Tranquility, whomp whomp. Lithium cannot recharge while idling a Diesel engine. That’s only the first reason of many why I’ll choose a Transit over a Sprinter…no MB for me. Propane on-board? Nope. If you are charging for those window pop outs, why would you do it half-assed? LOVE The vantage point of the seating with table just behind the driver seat. Overall: a big no for me.
She raises a good point. I want to see the Revel killer on a Transit. Most of the 4X4s on the Transit seem to be more luxury based than the Revel which i see as more utilitarian.

STO beast charges batteries (volta) using high idle and it is also fully automated (boost m-power extender). This , plus awesome offroad capabilities, is what made me go for that trim

I'm not sure I'd enjoy that layout - it is probably the tightest interior I've seen so far among the various Sprinter options. With improved solar availability, I'm not even sure why you'd add propane, especially to the rear of the vehicle; solar can manage most needs without issue. I think the deal breaker for me would be only have back door access to storage from outside.

Eh…..Thor quality is not the greatest. It’s a decent floor plan, like the storage underneath. Decent lithium, probably better then the Revel. But for the cost I’d still go STO myself.

The build quality doesn’t look up to par for a $140,000 dollar RV. I noticed the bathroom wall was separated, the step to the bed was wobbly. That’s just a quick look around,but your video was. Great.

Its OK but definitely not a Revel killer. First things first, the TV placement makes no sense at all. I like the propane option as long as you can use the propane outside of the Sprinter to hook up a BBQ grill or Blackstone, this wasn't covered in the video. The second salesman at the end - this is the type of salesman you want to avoid - No way can someone 6'4" will fit in this sideways with legs extended...

Its a Revel killer if price is your utmost concern. 10-20% maybe. I see the burners run off of LP. I wonder what other sytems run off of the LP as opposed to the Lithium. There is a youtube channel where the person running the channel is buying one for 115K without Lithium. The upgrade to Lithium was supposed to run an additional 8495. That will convert a small percentage of the market. I hear most people are waiting 6 months for a Revel. By the time you receive it next years model is out. This is another drawback to the Revel. I do like the gear garage on the Revel and the MBUX screen is about twice as big.

this is a nice van reasonably priced. the interior looks better than the Revel and it is 50,000 cheaper.
No one who has done a moment of research has ever paid $190,000 for a Revel.

@@cristianm-uv9up Just not true. I paid $156k 3 weeks ago brand new 2022 Revel with A/C and upgraded wheels. This was off the lot. Friends have paid as little as $145k if you’re willing to order and wait.

There is a 19P model that has sofa bed and is much roomier, giving separation for two or more while working or relaxing. The build quality is subpar even against Winny Revel, but the price is 40-50K less. Lose the lng.

I went to check the revel (in person) and the amount of cheap plastic, messy garage and no overhead cabinets was a no-no for me ; also I could see the appeal of a fixed shower but that felt very cramped (and I will be traveling solo). I have also heard the 4-season insulation is not top notch either
After that I went to an expo, checked the STO and really liked them, specially beast mode so I put an order. I know they are way more expensive, but that 12.5 kwh Volta system was an easy sell, a boost m-power extender, offroad setup, I also like the halo shower a lot, plus the garage flexibility . Now with the digital controls in 22MY, thats a big winner
Only thing I dont like from STO is porta potty , I would have prefer a casette system, but , you know, nothing is perfect
Why do RV manufacturers/builders put sinks in tiny Class B bathrooms when there is literally a sink 24" away?
It is a head scratch for some, but I really enjoy my fulltime bathroom sink 18” from my kitchen sink to wash hands, clean teeth and a variety of other uses. But… I have the appropriate space for the sink in a function l bathroom

I just buy the 19P with the Lithium package at Hershey show I am very disappointed with the quality of this product I can't mention all of them, so many. Thor and many of that RV manufacturers are very locky that Toyota or Honda don't build RV's for the US otherwise they will be out of business. When you call Thor customer care they claim they are tech support but they have no clue of anything. One of many things wrong with mine the propane regulator was hanging with a plastic tide from part of the chassis, every wire and pipe inside the coach was loose nothing was secure, and many more things. Special note, the only reason I buy mine is that I only paid $123,000.00 OTD.

Not a Revel killer. Quality control is an issue with their products, so no thank you. Propane... not a fan. Seems like a claustrophobic floor plan, but its hard to tell on video.
