  • Abacha was a powerful Nigerian Military Head of State and some persons describe him as the real dictator that ever ruled Nigeria. He was feared by those in uniform and civilians alike. He was a man of action and few words. He had no room for opposing voices. He was indeed a powerful man who had been in many circles of power in Nigeria since his days as a 2nd Lieutenant till he became a General and Head of State. Abacha passed on while still in office in 1998. This video tells a story of the day Abacha passed on in Aso Rock Villa, the official residence of Presidents of Nigeria.

Abacha's days, repugnant as it was, reminds me of my childhood. I was 16 when he seized power. Looking at this video is like traveling back in time to 1993 - 1998. Such happy family ours was, despite the tyrannical rule of Abacha!

Those who their families fell under the Abacha killers squad, Those that were chased out overnight from the country, Those that their houses were bombed, or their companies confiscated, especially newspapers houses, those who were unjustly thrown into jail at that time, won't be saying Abacha was a good man, we forget so quickly in this country, Abacha was a maximum ruler, who ruled the country in the highly uncivilized manner, he ruled the country as if the country was his personal company, many people are just saying here that things were cheaper during Abacha time in power as if this life is all about food, our people had been caged for long time and most of them cannot even think right anymore, they beleive their rights and freedom doesn't really matters to them as far as they can get food to eat, the same thing our politicians are still doing to us till today, you see our politicians always keeping their rice until election time before rolling it out for the food slaves, that's not life,we're not an animals but human being created equally in the image of God

They've enslaved Nigerians under poverty up to the point that we have no idea that our vote is worth more than the money they keep offering us. People are really suffering and right now we have a new abacha. One man that publicly claimed that he owns lagos and its is time to rule and he doesn't care if the citizens wants him or not.
We are still living in the abacha era my brothers and sisters and we sincerely need to stand up. I won't give my kids the same country my parents gave me. Inshallah 🙏

Again Abacha died in the guest house not the official quarters and sources familiar with his lifestyle said he always entertained his women of easy virtue in the guest house. If after all the revelation of stolen monies by him and members of his family you still regard him as " a great leader" I think you need to be educated of what it takes to be a great leader. Its just unfortunate that babies are weeping to be leaders in Nigeria they only see Nigeria as a toy to play with and dump like a typical baby will, that's why its only Nigeria that a president will sick and the next thing flying abroad, even their holidays they can't spend in their fatherland, their children schooling abroad, what signals are they sending to their host countries? Your guess is as good as mine. A man who does not value/cherish what belongs to him, it will taken away by those who smarter than him, that's what the western world are doing to our resources, they have seen our leaders as lazy bunch that love short cuts, as such they package anything and ensnare us even generation to come will never come out of it.

@@owolabishonaike4735 I feel that Abacha is way better a leader than buhari. There was no kidnappings and killings during the Abachas years as well as fulani herdsmen rampaging and killing people across the land. All government portfolios and ministries were not being controlled by only one group like buhari has his people controlling presently. Abacha was a visible leader ready to confront a crisis situation wherever it may exist, what about Buhari? He is usually no where to be seen in times of the worst crisis Nigeria has seen which happens to occur under his administration. These are the differences between the two men in terms of who the better leader is I was attempting to point out. They re both corrupt, but I will choose Abacha as the lesser evil leader.

And today, after the shambolic elections of February 25th and MArch 18th of 2023, I bet 80% of Nigerians including me would prefer the Abacha Era to Buhari and Tinubu. Btw, I also witnessed people rejoicing that morning just after assembly while in Secondary school and I joined them even though I didn't really grasp the idea of why I should be celebrating a Man's death, but the euphoria just kind of reminded me the win of Nigeria's dream team in the Olympics just 2 years prior.

Is only people who don't like to know the real truth or are in denial that will still be insulting Abachas regime, what I believe is no matter how good of a leader a person is , he will still make enemies, many Nigerians don't even know the real achievements of his tenure but believed all the lies that where being told up to date.I think we have to do more research to know more about our history now that at least we are far ahead with all this modern technologies, but most people are lazy to do so ,coz criticism is what people are best at doing not looking at the bigger picture. For me even if is true Abacha steals money which I doubt much coz it can be just one of the lies concocted to make him look bad, I don't think it still pass the ones stolen from Abdusalam time to date combine all together but coz he is dead he's been painted as the Villain while we still celebrate those thats make our nation backward.God help this Nation coz I don't think we really want it to move forward

Everyone thinks being a president is easy and it gives you so much power...but it also gives you so many enemies that you are always fearful of intrigues, deceit, rebellion, and conspiracies. From the time of ancient kings to the modern era, people at the top have been assassinated, jailed, or exiled by adversaries, ministers, trusted aides, and even family members. There is no shortage of a son killing a father and a man killing his blood brother in the lust of power thinking that bad things only happen to others and that he will be safe and enjoy the wealth and power.
    But for how long?

  • @backinhistory9

The first military coup in Nigeria took place in January, 1966. This coup took many people by surprise. Abacha was just a 2nd Lt. in the Army. He did not participate in this first coup.
Six months after (precisely in July 1966) another military coup was staged. Abacha took active part in it. Every other coup saw Abacha's footprints in them; either as part of the coup planners or as part of the team that frustrated a coup plan. Abacha and his team frustrated a lot of coups, got the planners arrested, detained and tried. He, indeed took active part in the neutralization of several coup plans.
Abacha also took active in all the successful military coups in the country and later staged a coup that made him the Head of State.

He & IBB were coup & counter coup specialist & expert. He actively neutralized the Major Gideon Okar coup of April 1990 which already had IBB the then military President toppled.
