  • On June 4, 1979, one Flight Lieutenant Jerry Rawlings was sprung from his sweltering jail cell to lead a coup by the other ranks of the Ghanaian army. This coup turned out to be a pacesetter event that reverberated throughout West Africa.
This event, known as the June 4th Revolution in Ghana or June 4th Uprising was sparked when the then Supreme Military Council (SMC II) of General Fred Akuffo put flight-Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings on public trial for attempting to overthrow the government on May 15th 1979….
The revolution itself and Rawlings' failed mutiny on 15 May, was a culmination of the turbulent period 1972 to 1979, which will definitely go down into history as the most traumatic, the most dramatic and the most tragic period in the history of Ghana.
It was a period which saw events moving with the force of a hurricane, devastating and consuming everything in the way and leaving behind nothing but economic stagnation and bankruptcy and decadence and moral degeneration and decay.
In this episode of African Biographics, we look at the story of the events pertaining to Ghana’s famous 4 June Revolution of 1979.

Why are people so wicked and self-centered??
    😥😥😭
    Really respected this Rawlings...
My Mom, a Nigerian, told me of the history, what he did for Ghana. How Ghanaians fled to Nigeria and other countries during Ghana's economic downturn caused by the corrupt leaders.
Nigeria was still having better economy at that time. But it's so painful that Nigeria later turned the same as corrupt leaders continued to evolve and increase also in Nigeria.
I weep for many black nations as we have not seen our people and our nations as priority.
"We do not have the oath of loyalty and Patriotism."
I wish our generation and the coming one will do something about these, like Rawlings did.
    Respects to that man Rawlings.
Was because of his name I clicked on this video.
His name rings positively anytime I heard or see it.
    😥

There were old African Empires who used to trade with the Arabs from North Africa in the Gold and salt trade. This interaction brought about the islamization of the Sub Sahara areas.
Africans who fled Islamic persecution fled and settled along the west African coast until they came into contact with the Europeans after 1470s.

Our people moved from Mali to present day Ghana along the coast to escape persecution. Now those along the coast came into contact with European missionaries and converted to Christianity.
There was also the songhai empire. Mali Empire etc..
At the horn of Africa too, u had Arab traders going from Somalia and Sudan to, zanzibar (Tanzania) to buy slaves etc. These practices were going on before the Europeans got there.

They only gave the dog a bad name just to kill him. He had only one house which he built in his village with the help of his community, yet he was tagged corrupt. Search well on UA-cam and you'll find more truths. The men who live during that time and were involved in what happened are out talking now. The Baah Acheamfours, Akatapores and the Boakye Gyans are all talking. Who was corrupt than JJ. He kills someone for having a WC toilet and buys a jacuzzi for his wife. He kills someone for riding their kids to school in official cars and uses the are aircraft to train his child how to fly plane. Which is more corrupt here. Acheampong did so much for Ghana which for obvious reasons have never been captured in our history books. Ask folks who live around Navrongo about the Tono dam. The estate housing projects were all his initiatives. JJ inherited factories and ended up collapsing all of them. Ghanaians now want to see industries...hahahahaha...Go and ask about what JJ did. I ever saw corned beef, rice and tomato paste produced in Ghana. We had cheap transport system called OSA. Where are they. Ghanaians were working 24/7 so there were jobs oo. Many people don't even know that Acheampong made Ghana drive on the right side. It used to be left.

Ok, for good measure, here's an anecdote. The story goes that one of these mistresses walked into his office looking for a favour of sorts. As she turns to walk out after their discussion, Acheampong then notices her backside. Out of shock, he shouts after her: eih, and you didn't come in walking backwards?

Jerry Rawlings is so dearly missed by real patriots of Ghana. He was a disciplinarian. Unfortunately, those surrounding him were not so disciplined and would rather the corruption prevail. Africa needs the likes of Nkrumah, Rawlings, Mandela, Gaddafi and other great Africans once again. It's takes force and strong hands to break free from corruption and to truly gain independence.

    John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Reasons the coup was the best thing that ever happened to Ghana.
housing estates at Adenta, Sakumono, Lashibi, and on the Spintex Road all in Accra and the SSNIT Estates all over the country were constructed during His Era.
There was the smooth, historic transfer of power from the NDC to the NPP.
The creation of District Assemblies’ Common Fund, the GetFund, the Road Fund, the EDIF and the Energy Fund
Ghana’s huge reputation in international peace keeping, coupled with the ability of H. E JJ Rawlings to get the illustrious son of Ghana, Kofi Annan, elected as the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
