Thanks for being a voice of sanity in a fly fishing world that's become so conceited and arrogant. I really enjoy your channel. Please keep up the good work!
Thank you, Drew. I appreciate that very much. I try to be open and honest in my show. But, sometimes I might err on guessing the size of the fish I catch. ;-)
I started with an 8' Fenwick glass 6 weight in 1980. I bought into the graphite revolution in the late 80s, and had a few including SAGE DS DS2 and RPL. Last three years I went retro and been loving the feel of glass. Way more fun to fish at short to medium range. Protection of tippet is remarkably better. Feel with fish on is WAY better. Swinging a graphite poker that doesn't bend turns me off now. If I start with one, just for kicks, invariably a few casts later I go back to the truck for my glass, and go ahhhh. That's more like it.
Zac you look like you really enjoy what you are doing. Thanks for the vid. Big Hole is on my bucket list. My first fly rod was a Fglas Browning 7'6" 5 wt. trout rod.
@nonewhere Listens: Thank you for the support. Hope you were able to find a few fish with that F-glass rod! Keep in touch, and good luck on your waters.
AMAZING!! For years I've been wondering who manufactured a fly rod I found underneath a very large pine tree along a small mountain stream in Northern New Mexico in 1997. Today I've discovered that it's the South Bend White Knight fly rod exactly like the one you're using with the exception that when I found it, it was badly weathered; the markings gone, guide threads and automatic reel rotted etc. I've since restored it and have caught hundreds of fish with it. I've thoroughly enjoyed it (love that flex) using a 7wt. DT floating fly line. Thanks for a great website! Regards, Alex
I picked up a cabelas cgr 5wt last year and landed so many fish of all sorts. Now I'm hooked and am looking forward to trying more fiberglass from other manufacturers or makers. It's just amazing and the sensitivity and feel can't be beat.
Hey Greg! It's actually a South Bend White Knight. I have a Wonder Rod, too, but it's about 6' long, and throws a 5 weight line pretty well. Thanks for watching!
Zac, what is the name of the motorized rod winder on the table? Is it a two speed motor, one to wrap the guides and apply the epoxy and another speed to dry the finish?
The brand is Custom Powerwrap. It's just a single speed turner, however, and I'd like it better if it was a bit faster. On some applications of epoxy/varnish, I'll just stop the motor and rotate the rod by hand, then lock it back in the chuck, and turn the motor on, when I don't need as much delicacy.
Hey Zac, I don't know how often you check this. But I was just curious if you build rods to purchase. I fish a helios2 now, and have heard superb things on glass. Let me know.
Joshua! I do make glass rods for purchase, via. Montana Rodsmiths. Our web page is at www.montanarodsmiths.com. I have been making rods for about 12 years, but just formed this business with Rudy Ketchum. We are based in Butte, Mont., and make bamboo, glass and graphite rods. Our glass and graphite are available on proprietary foreign and US-sourced blanks. Let me know what you are looking for, and we will get to work crafting your rod. Thank you for your interest in Fish Whispering, and custom glass rods!
Larry: Not sure if my messages on other media have gotten through, but the pack is the fishing creel by Goertzen Adventure Equipment, in Missoula, Mont.
I don't swear! How dare you sir! The clip reminded me of my media hosting days when hosts would hook a fish off camera and have to replicate it again for the live shot. Makes me laugh every time.
@@buddyseiner3274 Funny. It does look like that, and I know that happens - on other people's shows. ;-) It doesn't always work out but I try very hard to get set up for catching everything as it happens. That spot in particular has a steep drop-off right off the bank and holds a lot of fish - usually....

That full flex action is crazy! Great video! First time with your channel and not the last. Thanks!

Great story and rod discovery! Glad you enjoyed the episode and it helped you find something out about your rod. ;-)
Awesome video man!

Looks Like a Shakespear Wonder Rod

nice video
Thank you, Mr. Boyle. Glad you enjoyed it!
I would still like to know about that 'sling pack'; please pass it on, thank you. By the way; I only fish glass; #glassisnotdead

Fish Whispering TV
Zac, you message did get through thank you
Minute 18:20...WTF.
Not sure what you are swearing about at that minute - me catching a fish?

It's a beautiful spot for sure.
a glass rod is superior to a fast Graphite rod when it comes to trout fishing! Slow rods much better!
