I have the OG wave. I had the send it in for warranty after a broke the pry bar tool. Leatherman went through the whole tool and even upgraded the pliers to the ones with the replaceable wire cutters. Top notch service.
This is a great review on the Wave plus. I have the original Wave. Last year I sent it in because the plier head was really loose. They replaced it with the new style plier head. Also, they replaced the file and one of the knife blades that I didn't even ask about. Leatherman are the only multi tools I use.
The Wave Plus is my favorite all-around LEATHERMAN. I also have a Free P4 which is very cool and gets a fair amount or use. The one that I absolutely have with me every day is my Skeletool. It’s light and small enough to stick in a pocket and has the basic tools you need for most things. Thanks for the review.
Outstanding review. I often carry a Skeletool in lieu of a pocket knife but when I do belt carry, it has been a Charge. After several years of use, lost the Charge last weekend. I just replaced it with a Wave+. The Wave+ just made the most sense.
I have a black coated charge+ and it does the job well! 154cm blade and replaceable cutters are mint and has a nice set of tools in it! With that being said I hear nothing but good things about the wave series
I recently got one of these for the same exact reason you did, I love my Surge but man is it big and heavy. I still think the Surge is a better tool overall, but its basically required to have in a belt pouch, and even then you better not have to run or jump much, ive actually gotten bruises from that. So I decided to try this for the first time in 20 years (lost a gen 1 wave) with a pocket clip for day to day stuff and its absolutely awesome. The gripes I have with mine is that the plier pivot is waaaay too tight out of the box to the point where it needs to be peened, when its folded up the surfaces are misaligned a bit and it was a bit sad to find both knife blades and the scissors had massive burrs on them. I do have a feeling Leatherman quality control is getting alot worse in later years. Ive seen quite a few people snapping their pliers on gen 3 Waves, so seems its alot weaker after the replacable wire cutters, but oh well thats what the Surge is for. Still, awesome tool! :D
Hmm interesting. Mine was more stiff out of the box and over the couple years it’s gotten extremely smooth. I’ve been super tough on it too, with no problems. Sounds like it might be a defect with that one that broke. But who knows 🤷🏻♂️
👍🏼good review. You should do the magnet metal dust/shavings experiment. Seems like everyone says it would collect but I don’t know if anyone has said it does.🤷♂️
I love my Wave i got on Etsy and got the Rebar pliers and the Rebar awl and swaped the pliers and the scissors out.. than ordered the s30 v charge blade and swaped it.. been thinking of a full qtr bit driver swap but ive not got around for it yet
I’ve carried a p4 for about 3 years now. For about a year of that I was working in a semi truck trailer repair shop. The p4 most definitely collected metal shavings like a MF. However it’s really easy to clean them out with compressed air. I just got a wave plus and wish I had it while I was working there.
I have the original Wave. My second one. broke the tip off of one side of the original pliers, had to reprofile the tip, and gave it to my son, bought a Wave+ last year as a Christmas gift for a friend. Much better wire cutter on the Wave+. Good review. Thanks
i only have one multi-tool. the Gerber 400 and use it every day 7 days a week. for the last 26 years. 24 years ago i bought my first letherman , do not remember the name, but not being able to get the pliers out with one hand. made me change brand, i have been using the Gerber, the same Gerber for 26 years on my farm, and it probably will last for another 26 years. last year i sended the tool in for a plier repair, Gerber placed a new one in, and a new blade as well, free of charge it has a forever warranty on the tool. great vid thank you for sharing.
I did the same, except I bought the arc instead of the wave. The wingman has a spring, but you get use to not having it. I played with the surge pivots, and it opens pretty easy. My arc came really tight, but I say, just get one lol
I'm sort of laughing here to myself; when you said you used the serrated knife more. I got this model just a few weeks ago and I've been using the serrated side loads to buck branches and works like a charm. the serrated has got more bite and I love the wave+
Blue collar, work for ford around raw metal dust and it’s not bad. I’ve never had it go gritty on me but do use a airhose to blow all the junk out every couple weeks or so. I used to collect wayyyy more metal frag on one of the olights with the magnetic bottom. That was a nightmare!
I don’t like the idea of magnets either. I’m good with the Rebar but if I had to use a multitool all the time I might want something with easier access. The knife steel on the Rebar and Wave is 420HC which has mediocre edge retention but it’s very tough, especially for a stainless.
Bullseye of a review. I first had the Wave for many years and have now been carrying the Surge for a couple of months. You are correct about the Surge being bigger but now when I pick up the Wave it feels small to me. I guess we adapt to our tools if we use them regularly. I considered the Arc but since I like pocket knives as well I figure I would put my money to a better blade steel in the folder and I would get a more comfortable handle for my large paws. I am not a fan of the magnet on the Free series. I may have been persuaded by TX Toolcrib reviews. He is a millright who prefers staying away from magnets.🇨🇦
I have a wave + krderednand on the wag. Do you use any of the accessories you can get for them, ratcheteting extension, driver extension or any 3rd party accessories?
@doodysdaggers yeah, I'm not a welder or fabricator, but I took the opportunity to dunk my P2 in some filings when i found some and no issues. Haven't done the same with my ARC yet. The magnets are also located in a spot where they don't really impede the operation of the tool if something does stick to them.

That’s awesome!
I have over 80 Leatherman multi tools and I carry one every day usually the Wave+. Good video 📹 dude. 😊

That’s great! Customer service and warranty like that is another reason to buy Leatherman
My wife’s car Wave is the one I used when I was in active duty. I retired 23 years ago!. Still going strong. No rust, just sharpening done to it.

Good idea I should
Waiting for a sale on the super tool 300 or the knifeless rebar to come back in stock. I always have a mora or folder around anyway

Badass!!

Love this video. I carry a backpack every where I go and I have the leather man OHT. Love multi tools❤
Right on! That’s a cool one, I’ve never gotten a charge to handle it

I don't need a leatherman but when you pulled out the set with the vice grips, I found my self wanting one of those...
It’s super nice!! The Crunch
may have to look into getting one of those@@doodysdaggers

Oh yeah I hate that, I always put a piece of tape over the magnetic part so I can just peel it off when I get home
@@doodysdaggers Smarter than me. I just gave the light away. Should have used tape.
Really nice job on this review. I found it quite helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

Where is the review? I'm 2/3 in, and I've only heard which is your favourite so far !
The Wingman that I use has spring assist opening with the pliers
Oh okay I didn’t realize it did

No I don’t, just the tool itself
Not to mention that the Arc doesn’t have a serrated blade.
I used the rebar for years now i use the skeletool
lol your hand looks like the back of math book when I was 15
Right on 🤙
Always have been a Gerber guy, but have been looking 👀 at theses for a minute! But I like the Center Drive so much.
I’ve heard the Center Drive is great
Nice review. Thanks.
The issues with metal shavings on the Free series & ARC are overblown.
Personal experience?

Is it just mine wave+ that when the knife is pushed hard into its folder it gets stuck really hard?
Mine doesn’t, maybe loosen the nut holding it in?
I like leatherman and own the charge
Is there an option to put a belt clip on the Wave+ ?
I believe so, yes
nice!
Leatherman is just overhyped american garbage. Poorly manufactured and assembled.
