Great demo. I love FM8 but don’t program my own sounds much. There’s just so many good presets, plus FM8 reads DX7 sysex files, which I have 200+ more presets (you can download for free). I have an old DX7 in my studio, but never use it.
Fantastic video, thank you! I'm a little bummed I missed the recent $10 sale on this synth, but I'm still glad I saw this video. I'm definitely going to pick it up in the future.
Are you able to arrange the operators in an algorithm in the same manner that you'd see them on a DX7? I just recently got this and I have the "300 Patches for the DX7" book out from our local library, and I wanted to try my hand at reproducing those patches.
FM8 is very flexible in that sense, you are able to arrange the algorithms in any way you like. Grab an image from google showing how the DX7 algorithms are arranged and replicate. I saw this video of someone doing exactly that ua-cam.com/video/qmHRzIVBGWM/v-deo.html
If you haven't already, you should also look at Dexed, which is free and is almost identical to the DX7 in the way it works, except you have a graphical user interface to use to program presets.
Great intro to someone who's totally new to FM, like me :)
Good overview. Time to revisit this plug-in :)
Thanks you, this was very helpful!

Straight forward and informative (y)
Can we modulate the ratio (that pitch thing) in each of their envelopes?
