- There are loads of ways on how to do abstract glitch melodies, in this video tutorial I will be exploring a technique I have been working on recently.
Video content:
00:00 - Intro
00:29 - Demo of what we will be making
02:38 - What are 'Garble loops'?
03:54 - Intro to using garble loops
08:00 - A ready made garble loop maker
09:04 - Make your own Garble loop generator
29:04 - Slice your recordings into 1bar samples automatically
36:29 - Use the newly made garble loops

i like the term "garble loops". i never had a great category description for it. now i found one. thank you !
Wow! Very unique technique as usual! Thanks🙏
Great video, full of interesting ideas!
Just what i was looking for. Thanks!
PS: really like the "garble loop" moniker!
This is brilliant! Great video. I’ll be rewatching this for days to come.
Thank you
insane tutorial! actually so good. I've never stumbled upon a channel of this high quality but this small before
Wow, thanks!
Useful, well explained, insightful and inspiring. Well done!
Did you use to release stuff on Thinnerism?
@@TheFellowPassenger thinner, yes and many other places too. But I see your roots!
Very cool stuff, this tutorial really stands out among the others, I've never even heard of Garble loops before.
Thank you for your kind words.
Good video.
Quention: what's the difference between using expression control and a standard lfo set to random , besides that the expression controll is reacting to midi inputs , is there any other reason u use the expression controll?
Providing that both the LFO and the Expression control are set to random (otherwise there are loads of differences). Then the main difference is that the Expression control will produce a new random value when receiving a midi note, and the LFO will produce a new random value at a particular interval set by the rate, regardless if a not is pressed, held or not pressed at all. There are some more subtle difference too. On the expression control you can set a %, of the amount the value changes every time it is updated. Set to 100% you will get a completely random value, set to 5% would give you a new value very close to the previous value. This is interesting if you want to create something that is drifting. On Expression controll you can also set a curve, how likely lower or higher values are. This is interesting if you only want to get very high values very rarely.
Random on the midi shaper shape is fun.
It is! I want more! It must be possible to develop an even more advanced envelope/lfo. For example, a sequential 3 x complex envelope for example. So each time you press a MIDI note it will use the next envelope in a set sequence. I also like envelopes like the one in FM where the sustain stage is a loop rather than just holding a single value
@@TheFellowPassengerin live 12 max for live they’ve added new object to make this easier. Live.remote I think and live.modulate. Should be easier now to make such stuff.
I cant wait to get my hands on 12!
56:56 - on 1.25 speed ... "warm.... leatherette..."
😂
Instead of using the term garble loops I think is more appropriate use the term sound objects. This term we use in electrocaustic music
What?
As a new Live user, coming from Bitwig, which is still my go-to DAW, I giggle watching all that fancy footwork required in Live...
Ableton, look at the calendar and try to catch up!
in brief what are the pros and cons with Bitwig VS. Ableton in your opinion? I know very little about Bitwig
@@TheFellowPassenger
And BTW, I love your videos and their presentation, learning a fair bit. Cheers.
@TheFellowPassenger Drop in your samples and there’s a select knob allowing you to switch between samples. There’s a sequencer-like modulator that allows you to modulate it at different rates. Can be done in less than 5 minutes (not counting the time to pick the samples of course).
@@TheFellowPassengerSo this is from a little while back but I'd like to chime in here. It seems you enjoy using expression and lfo devices quite a bit to control and manipulate device parameters from what I can tell. So that being the case I think you would really appreciate Bitwig's modulation system if you spent some time with that.
I like and use Max/msp a fair bit and so its integration in Live is the only reason I still have any interest in Live at this point. Max is a vastly superior modular patching/programming environment compared to Bitwig's grid devices, but as overall DAW experience, Bitwig runs circles around Live in most use cases from my experience and is an absolute joy to work with.
I can hear saliva travelling when you speak. Would be a mad sample pack.
🤣
Just a friendly tip, if you're gonna use AI generated art for your thumbnail, cut out the garbage non-text all around it that makes that obvious
Why would anyone try to hide that their image was created with a neural net?
The technology is being used by everyone now. No need to be secretive or disingenuous about it.
we are here for the music!! He can put whatever he wants in the thumbnail after all this knowledge dropped ❤ and again, thanks for ur video☀️
He can indeed put whatever he wants in the thumbnail, I never said otherwise
I would rather like to know if something is ai generated or not
Hahah as if. Just enjoy the video 😂
garbage, idm is done in a tracker without all the whistles of this terrible ableton.
🤣
seeing how you're obviously more knowledgeable than Ned Rush and Benn Jordan, I'm surprised that you dont have a massively successful youtube channel. its also perplexing that aphex twin has made patches for the novation bass station since obviously he only uses trackers because thats the only way to make IDM. Here I always thought that a daw was just a tool and it was all a matter of what you did with it, you must have over 100 albums released and a huge fan base. Because surely someone as smart as yourself knows how to take advantage of the available social media platforms to have guaranteed success.
@ozowizo37 Great use of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
I just realized that I've never been able to find the tracker arranger window in metasynth. I mean it must have a tracker workflow seeing how popular it was with idm producers in the late 90's. I'm just dying to find it so I can be validated.
I think Yamaha has almost all the right ingredients to take on akai concerning the MPC because the mod x operating system and the finger drumming machine that you originally mentioned. @@NedRush
