I got it and I am so glad that I did. I was hesitant because of the ancient looking gui and people comparing it to free synths. It's actually awesome and I'm so glad that I went for it.
Ugh, I'd convinced myself that I didn't need this until this video came out (already have Dexed, Arturia's DX7 emulation and a Reface DX), another one for the plugin pile it is! Keep up the great work Mike!
WOW MIKE!! 🤩 I am aware that FM8 has been around for like, what… a decade? I never knew it was so genuinely USEFUL as an instrument. Not cheesy and not just weird sounds. But rather a real “instrument”. Thanks to your choice of HOW to show this instrument… I. Must. Have. It. 😄😄😄 What a bargain! 👍😎👍
I am not usually big fan of FM. My first attempt at programming a DX7 in the 80s in a small lcd display left me with a bad taste in my mouth, but after watching your demo of those patches which sounded great, ease of programming, and the morphing, I could not resist LOL!!!
Thanks Mike, really appreciate all your efforts in keeping us in the loop with these videos. Just got FM8 for £2.24 thanks to you and some Plugin Boutique credits.
great price for someone who has'nt got an FM vsti, otherwise, obsolete because its old tech, certainly when you have the arturia bundle,or nemesis from tone2,most newer vsti can do all synthesis, from FM to wavetable, wavefolding, etc
Nice overview Mike! Very tempting - though I still haven't started to explore the 33 Syntronik synths I bought in the IK Group Buy a couple of months ago!
I'm typing this on May 18th 2024 and I'm anxiously waiting for another NI sale so I can purchase FM8. After doing a ton of research and listening, FM8 in my estimation is THE FM synthesis tool to have. I love the easy to understand layout and it sounds great!
$10 is fair, since DeXEd is free. It’s a great FM synth that’s included in every Komplete bundle - so lots of us already have it. The real question is whether you need another FM synth, given the fact there’s one in almost every DAW and most 3rd party virtual synths have FM built in.
NI should really update their GUI at list with zoom specially on this one and absynth ..... Making your own sound , imho Korg Opsix is the most inviting ... Great video .
Too late, I got it early last week. 😛 I'm on a big FM kick right now. Just got the Korg Opsix, and a Kurzweil PC4 SE that has 6 Operator FM. Getting rid of my old TX802.
Got it for 12 Euro's. Great synth/sound. Also still a big fan of the old Massive. I wish they would make the interfaces resizable. Thanks for the tutorial.
I couldn't find NI FM8 on the download site mentioned but I'm debating if I should spend the 149 usd for the download from the NI site. I actually like the 80s keyboard sounds that it has.
Thanks for your content Mike! I have a question that's not related to the plugin. It's about noises from the PC, I recently bought a powerful PC, kind of like yours, with lots of fans, and I noticed my guitar picks a lot of noise from it, so to record I need to get far away from the PC, which is fine. I would like to know if you have/had this issue as well and maybe knows some ways to fix this? Cheers!
Hi Fredi, thanks for watching. I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue. The fans in my PC are 'Magnetic Levitation' fans from Corsair - and they are extremely quiet. Also, the only ones I have are on my radiator, as my open style case, doesn't need case fans. I also use around 7 SSDs and no hard drives, so the noise in very minimal TBH.
You could put a piece of acoustic foam between your PC and where you sit to record. You could also go into your BIOS and set your fan curves to not ramp as quickly; your PC shouldn't be working as hard while you're recording so that should help quiet it.
@@fredimachadonet I'm certainly no expert on this by any means, but I know what you're saying. I've had annoying interference with setups that should have been fine but created unwanted noises, buzzes etc. From what I can gather, and please somebody with more knowledge correct me, but it could be down to shielding. A balanced cable from your guitar to the audio interface might help, and make sure that everything is running from the same power loop (not using different electrical sockets for different components of your setup). Sometimes, like in such accommodation as mine, you find out that they've been really cheap and not even connected the earth supply in the sockets, which causes massive issues. Although I've never tried them, I know people recommend ferrite beads, which suppress electromagnetic noise. They're quite cheap and are available from most online retailers. Please keep us updated with what you've tried and the results that you've got. Just like what Mike does, any information will help so many others.
FM8 has an "IN" operator that allows for external audio to be used as if it were just another FM operator. I can get it to work if I add FM8 as an effect to an audio clip in Cakewalk. But I haven't figured out how to get it to work when FM8 is configured as a synth in Cakewalk. Any Ideas?
Hello Mike. Tell me please, do you happen to know why, since the cakewalk became free, there is no z3ta ++ synthesizer for sale anywhere? And will this wonderful synthesizer included in the Sonar Platinum kit be available in the near future? Do you think the F8 synthesizer can be an alternative to the z3ef++ synthesizer? Thank you)
I can't get Reaper to recognize the dll file when it scans. I can use this as a standalone. I need it in Reaper, so I can play my midi keyboard & add it to my song. Anyone else having problems getting this to work in your DAW?
Edit: Was able to download the plugin and it appears on my desktop. I'm able to use it there, but not within Bandlab. I really like this plugin, but it's useless if I can't access it in Bandlab. It now appears under "preferrences/vst settings" but not within the program dropdown box under any of the different files names. However, it does not yet appear under "utilities/plugin manager" under enabled or excluded. I'm into hours now of troubleshooting and trying different thing to get it there. One thing I did notice is that when I first opened the file after original download, I was not given all of the options to set a path like some of the info I've seen. It's pretty much a set "next, next, next" process. Been moving the file to different locations under "C:/" as well. No luck. I'm sure I'm just missing something simple. Any ideas? Couldn't pass up this plugin for the price because it seems to have the sounds I can use, but once again installation has been a problem. Did the logins, registrations and confirmations(I think). Went to their site and ended up downloading Kontakt. Not sure why, but it was there on their site and it actually shows up as a new plugin. Watched your vid(s) on installation and finding excluded plugins and I'm still lost. It finally appears under "preferences, VST settings", but not within the program dropdown itself. Went to "utilities" to try to see if it is excluded. Not only is it not within the list of excluded, it's not even in enabled list. Closed out Bandlab and re-opened it. Looked for FM8 and native instruments name - nothing. Lots of times they may appear in "uncategorized", but not this time. Also looked under all instrument tabs because sometimes they drop into weird places. Again, nothing. Closing in on 2 hours of trying and researching. This is why I don't add many plugins. When I choose the file place to drop them, they always seem to work when I drop them into Steinberg/ VST3 plugins. It's there in that file location. Re-downloaded the plugin and moved it several times. No luck. Haven't used a DAW since Cakewalk Home Studio 2004XL and that was in the mid 2000s, so I'm basically starting at ground zero. Being 66 years old doesn't help either.
@@mauricenestler6559 Nope. I have a "strings" plugin also that worked once then nothing. It seems like anything that I've added in Kontakt player (free version) does not work for me. The string one was highlighted once and worked, but FM8 has never highlighted within Kontakt. FM8 is the one I really want to try.
Yup. I can resist. I've tried numerous NI products over the years and it's always an install drama. Their 'manager' and player are an abomination. They are especially horrible about any OS that may be a little older. I refuse the buy into them anymore. 🤷♂
I got it and I am so glad that I did. I was hesitant because of the ancient looking gui and people comparing it to free synths. It's actually awesome and I'm so glad that I went for it.
"God only knows where we'd be without" Mike. Thank you for all you do!!!

lol - have fun Mick :)
IK’s T-Racks Comprexxor is FREE until September 20th if you take a survey about studio monitors!
WOW MIKE!! 🤩

What a bargain!
👍😎👍
Came out in 2007
Very cool that you made the part about basic synthesis steps👍
Thanks man :)

Obsolete because it’s old tech? People in the music business love old tech tho
I bought Native Komplete before this offer came up. Was well worth the purchase 😀
Good choice!
Nice overview Mike! Very tempting - though I still haven't started to explore the 33 Syntronik synths I bought in the IK Group Buy a couple of months ago!
Oh man - we need more than 24hours per day huh?
Nope, couldn't resist. Got it a couple of days ago. Thanks for the video and the ultra-simple tutorial to get things rolling.
Glad it helped!

Summer promotion until 8 July 2024 right now
Can't beat that price for another synth. Thanks for the info
My pleasure :)
At that price it's good to have an extra license, as things keep needing to get updated !

I own it now long time, but use it not enough, now I'm more on massive x, both are great synths

Great video, Mike. It’s about time to go deeper than just changing presets!
Got it for 12 Euro's. Great synth/sound. Also still a big fan of the old Massive. I wish they would make the interfaces resizable. Thanks for the tutorial.
Couldn't agree more!
I bought this about a week ago. I love it! And who can pass this deal up?
As always Mike a great video. I have Komplete 10 love it.. but never use anything other than presets.

Just for clarification, is it audio noise that's being picked up or is it interference noise being picked up by the guitar pickups?
It's noise being picked up by the guitar pickups. When I turn the PC off the noises are completely gone. Thanks for the suggestions.

Z3ta is about wavetable type of synthesis and FM8 is frequency modulation synth.

Yes it does!
I just bought this but I can't find where the stock sounds are ,it just plays a stupid sine wave sound it's annoying .
Lol..this was still on sale and i just bought it frm PB..got a free plugin as a bonus..

Does the link still work? I cant seem to find it D:
this is because the actual retail price of this average piece of software is $10. Everything else just over inflated.
it this a demo?

Really? I’ve had no issues with them
4:41 Easy Morph
Does this work with Kontakt player?
It's a VSTi synth, not a sample kit.
I can coz i coz Arturia DX7
Anyone tried it on a Windows 8.1? It suggests it is Windows 10 only...
No, I couldn't! 😁
Yes we can, no M1 support... Shame for NI
that has changed..native M1,2,3 Supported :)
Got it!
😒 I got it for 70
Well, still a good price!
Yuck. We need less synths and more real world physical instruments in music. I'd rather pay $10 for a stick & some cardboard.
that would sound like shit
Can't wait to hear how you're going to make a simple sawtooth on an amazon prime delivery box.
10USD sounds like pirate software 😂
Amazing timing cause i was just looking into the fm8. Thanks man ✌
