  • I didn't get out to fish this week because New Zealand has gone back into lockdown so it meant I have been looking up some older footage that I haven't edited yet. Here is a few hours on the local river back at the beginning of winter before things got cranking!
    I go over some good things to think about when fishing any piece of water, highlight a very cool bit of gear that will be available soon and catch a heap of fish while I'm at it. Good times!

    No idea why anyone would be down on an egg pattern. Rainbows follow salmon because they gorge themselves on eggs. When nothing else works eggs do. I tie the best there is. I say thank God for the egg pattern. I’ve caught browns and brookies on them too. But rainbow just can’t resist.

    Where did you get that tippet waste tube you are showing at minute 12:30? I currently use a monomaster but the lid is a bit flimsy and easily pops open, making me have to keep it in a pocket rather that hanging from my vest. Cheers

    Hi Alex, this is one of the best pools in this stretch of the stream. It has been holding some very good trout and is relatively easy to fish. I was introduced to it by a Taupo guide years ago when I wanted to find out how to fish from the right bank and how to access the pools that are so tight against the left bank. Sometimes it pays to use a local guide! Cheers mate. Harera

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101 3 роки тому +1

      I am sure I am correct in saying the fresh fish is more silver. After being in the river for longer they go darker. It is the same as the river run fish here in the UK.

    • @TrippinOnTrout
      @TrippinOnTrout  3 роки тому

      Shaun summed it up well there - I’m basically referring to fish that haven’t long pushed up out of the lake and into the river system. As Shaun said, the longer they are in the river, the darker they get
