I’ve found that sharing a game experience in some way can help bring some life to it. Even if you have one or two people watching you play or playing with you, it can be quite a different experience than playing alone
I think there’s too many things going on, first being an adult definitely would have an impact, we have less time and more responsibilities, but that wouldn’t really be a huge impact, if we go back to the early 2000s and late 90s when the ps1 and then the ps2 came out I remember that a lot of adults were involved in those generations of video games, but the different I guess was part of the culture and the effort that developers put back in the day, before we used to get full games, not this subscription based incomplete games system we have nowadays, and also multiplayer back then was actually multiplayer, everything changed when they started to take out the split screen option and that’s just to name a few, playing online is cool and all, but nowadays feels soulless and it will never compared to play on split screen or even LAN parties Maybe also this shift from physical media to digital is making stuff less appealing
So you don’t feel guilty lying on your couch for hours doing nothing, but you feel guilty for wasting your time playing a game that helps increase your attention span and helps with your problem solving, your motor skills, triggers curiosity and learning helps on decision making and improves your spatial visualisation, just because you don’t make money… as if you made money sitting on your sofa doing nothing… Ok it makes sense… I would understand if you said that you feel tired, but guilty? I don’t know how old you are but the younger you are the more you try to conform to an image the society is trying to assign to you.. The older you become the more you don’t give a … and enjoy your life doing whatever you enjoy…
The issue, my friend, is DLC and bloat. Games are too big nowadays, and developers forget that longer does not always equal better. I'm currently trying to get through FIRE EMBLEM ENGAGE, and I made the mistake of getting all the DLC. This isn't the first time that DLC, for me, has worsened my experience and immersion with a VG. ENGAGE is among my least favorite of the FE series. It's a chore to get through with "bonus" chapters that make little sense from a narrative perspective. Developers these days just add more things forgetting if in fact these additions truly enhance the gameplay.
Video games aren't boring now. People just grew up and became jaded adults.
