    I've never thought to EQ the reverb channel but it makes perfect sense. I always just figured "the dry signal is EQed how I want, so the reverb will sound good too." Wrong! Great tips, thanks for this video 👍

    I also see a reverb, when mastering, as a small light glue for the track. i find that a reverb in the main bus, with restraint, really helps things settle together.

    I use your template all the time for mixing and I gotta say those reverb sound beautiful! My clients love the sound and so do I. I Barely use any other reverb plugin. The only thing I do is change maybe the EQ of the reverb a bit or play around a little with the reverb plugin, it all depends on what the mix needs. Thanks for this video, helped me understand more how to use these reverbs. Probably I'll buy the Convology for that Spring Reverb because it's the only reverb I don't have.

    Wow thank you, I always thought it was because I was using cheap reverb and all along it was the fact I never eq’ed the reverb because I would work to make sure that my parts had enough sparkle, body and meat and I wanted to add reverb as a mood enhancer but what I got was frequency’s that I had to fix when the overall tone was good without it so I’ve learned something today and I want to be like a good chef and make people go WOW! in a good way

    Joe, massive fan! Thank you for this channel and I'm thinking about switching to Studio1. Is it a 1-time buy or is there a recurring cost structure? I use pro-tools and it is expensive with the subscription

    • @stephencarter8625
      @stephencarter8625 4 роки тому +1

      Studio One has no ongoing subscription costs just the initial purchase. Version 'updates' ( v4 to v4.1 for instance) are free of charge but every two/three years there'll be an 'upgrade' from version 3 to 4 for instance, which carry an upgrade cost. There are three levels of software including a free one but the full Pro version is available on a 30 day free trial, so nothing to lose, go ahead and try it - most users find it quite intuitive to use.

  • @mercadofamily7403

    That was a really nice mix and song. Only observation is the snare was distracting and lacked distance in the mix. More reverb like the rest of the instruments would sweetened it.

  • @anju2606
    @anju2606 3 роки тому

    It appears as though you are using mono tracks for your reverbs and panning them down the middle? I used to create a mono track and make a dedicated reverb for each track panned at the same position as the instrument. Now I just create a stereo track and pan wide stereo left and right for reverb even if a mono signal is being sent to it. Which is ideal choice? Great video! Thank you!

    Hey Joe! Nice tips, thanks a lot! I see you have your faders above 0 point. Why not dragging down all of the faders in the project, together, so as the most higher goes under 0 point, and you'll have the same mix, a few db quieter? Isn't that working in the same way as to EQs - better to cut than to boost?
    Thanks!

    • @mathiassaaf5734
      @mathiassaaf5734 4 роки тому

      Don`t really see the point of doing so. As long as his mixbuss is not clipping or overloading id doesent matter if the faders for the tracks are at + 6db or - 15.. Its better to be closer to 0 if u want do do autmation but it wont affect the sound at all honestly :-)

  • @robintropper660

    I like to do all my mastering within DaVinci Resolve, using no 3rd party plugins ... not super sophisticated, I know, but it more than satisfies my needs and purposes. I struggle with reverb only for one reason, and I hope you can clarify. When I apply reverb, it seems like the volume (loudness) of the track really diminishes to the point where maxing the volume on my speakers doesn't cut it. Sadly, GarageBand does reverb more easily (although adds way too much). For classical music, the contrast between soft and loud is crucial, so I wonder if you have any comment on that.

    Joe, how is your reverb track at such a low volume & all effect when the slider is at 0 ? When I attempt this, my reverb track is just as loud & duplicated as the track being sent to the reverb & sounds no different than just putting reverb on the original instrument track. I cannot get this figured out.

    These days I mix small jazz and vintage blues combos tigerboytom.bandcamp.com/. Isnt the "creating a room" for them approach appropriate? I also wonder for more rock style music, isnt there a mud danger by having a reverb for guitar, another for drums and another for voice?

    • @CodyHazelleMusic
      @CodyHazelleMusic 4 роки тому

      Mud danger is always a danger even without reverb...You just have to be careful like Joe lays out in this video. You can put them on sends and cut out the lows and some highs like he does, or just put it on an insert because a lot of reverbs these days have low and high cuts built right into them (valhalla, fabfilter, Waves). I often find my mix will be really low when using it as an insert...Sometimes just 10% wet, if that. Upwards of 20% at the most.
