What’s YOUR favorite DeEsser??
I think now, Pro- MB!
I always used C1 from Waves or mb from FabFilter, but homie your tip is awesome. I didn't even know about this setting
Now, it is this one you are using.
PRO-DS, in combination with the sibilance control in Melodyne 5 💪
Soothe2 is my favorite to use as a de esser
Dude this is such a great channel!! Once you get to a certain level it's hard to find really solid advice. Right here is one of the best I've seen! Don't get why you don't have a shitload of followers... These are really great concepts that can take you to the next level! Thanks and praise friend! ✌🤘
That is the most effective De-essing tip I’ve seen. 🔥
Your content is top notch. Always packed with great info, straight to the point, and without any annoying gimmicks just to get clicks. Keep up the good work!
This is next level mixing wizardry. Hats off, Colt. There is so much yet to learn.
Historically I love the DerrEsser. This was a killer trick and super natural!! (So glad you're loving the Atlantis!🙌)
Why are there almost no comparisons (especially not good quality) of the Lauten Eden LT 386 to other equally expensive mics, or mics that already have legendary status like the u87 ai, Brauner vm1/vmx/vma, telefunken ela m 251, sony c800G, U67 etc. Also the cheaper classics like tlm 103, tlm 49, and all other brands.
That means I want to listen to it with all common mics that are used for vocals.
I need a full vocal test for Lauten Eden.( Speaking, singing, rapping /Male low & high voice + female low & high voice)
you WANT a full vocal test@@rtdrec
I actually go and manually turn down the sibilances! But the way you use the pro-mb on this video seems to be as effective and faster. Quality content!
That’s definitely my next step if I can’t get sibilance under control with this technique! Thanks for the comment!
Me also!
How do you go about doing that manually? Through automation?
@@ebraheemrana correct, clip gain automation is my best friend, just zoom and edit the Sssss sounds down until they sound the way you want, removes sibilance before the plugin chain!
@@ebraheemrana You could do it automating a Gain utility plugin so that way you don't mess with your volume fader! In Logic is called 'Gain', 'Utility' in Ableton Live and I believe in Pro Tools would be 'Trim'
Gonna give this a try! Thank for this tip. Never to old to learn new tricks.
Thank you 🙏 Colt! Appreciate you and your channel
Dialing in a slower release time smooth out the top end even more.
dang thats actually amazing. Ive been doing 2 Pro-DS on different bands, but this seems way more controlled and unified...and one less plugin in the chain.
Thankya Colt!!
Been feeling like I need another de-esser lately. Good to know it's already in my arsenal. Gonna try this today. Thank you!
Colt the G.O.A.T
You are to kind 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
It was an eye-opener in a way I had never tried. Thank you for the helpful video.
Great video on de-essing with dynamic EQ. It's short, to the point, and could be a video to favourite and go back to until one has the steps memorized. Thanks.
Awesome and cunning!!! Thanks 😊 so much for sharing!!
This goes straight to my template!! Thank you!!
I typically don't use the Pro-MB for attacking those harsh frequencies but after seeing this and knowing the plugin, it makes perfect sense. Def going to try this.
every time i watch your videos i learn a lot thanks from brasil
Wow! This is absolutely brilliant!!! Thank you 🙏🏽
Yess thank you! This solved a mix I'm working on!
GREAT tip! Thanks, Colt! 🎉
Gonna try this first thing tomorrow! Exactly what I been looking for.
absolutely fabulous
That's dope, always seemed like a good idea to sidechain a multi band to compress based on a different freq as a trigger... And this does exactly that.
Tried this on a vocal just now-beautiful (works will with kirchhoff EQ too of course). Thanks for the tip!!
This was really dope to learn, thanks!
Thanks for a great tip, waiting for more!
Thank U very much, man! Awesome tutorial👍
Top notch production video!
this helped me a lot. amazing. thank you very much
O M G. Colt my comment here is not related to this video which is much appreciated though, but I watched an episode of Pensados place from 10 yers ago w Chris Lord Alge , and who’s popping up in the corner office Q’n A ….Colt Capperrune! It was so fascinating to see how far we can go if we stay inspired by our heroes ,and you are the proof seeing you today in that 10 years perspective, man that’s so amazing to see kudos to you!
That’s amazing! I remember that well. The fact that they decided to read my question all those years ago was a big deal to me. Had the chance to hang out with him a few times since then. And most certainly, this career is a marathon, not a sprint.
Thanks a million, great tip, I'll try it out on my next production! :)
Great tip. I usually use the EQ3 in dinamic mode, searching the frequencies where the sibilances are in order to cut them out just when they overpass the threshold setting. And if the sibilances are too much out of control, I add a de esser. I`ll try this technique. Thanks for sharing this one!
Thanks for watching! I personally find this technique to be more transparent and effective, but there are no rules! Whatever works best for you!
Thanks Colt!
Great video!! Another way to made awesome use of the Pro-MB!! Thank you!! 🙂
Great video, thank you!
Thank you Colt
Ok this is a game changer I never knew about this feature in the Pro-MB! Thanks for this 🙏🏻
That‘s a very cool trick for taming sibilance on vocals! Will try that on my next mix for sure 🙌🏼
🔥 💯 Thanks for that, incredibly helpful full!!!!!
This is genius man thank you!
That's a great way to do it! Going to have to play around with that. Great video 👍
never seen this before and I use pro-mb all the time. that band selection is lit
Dude, genius. Sidechain stuff is the most big-brain stuff in music production I love it
Awesome! Thank you for this trick! 🤘🏻✨🎶🙂 best regards from Germany
Thank you for watching!
Awesome trick, thanks!
this is a very genius way to do this, i always thought about how we can de ess through pro mb, this is probably the best way
Super solid my guy thank you 🙏
Great video, thanks!
I usually use the Weiss Deess, but your use of the Pro MB is amazing!!!! I have the Q3 & L2 but I think I need to get this one! So many great uses...
Didn’t even know that was possible, definitely will try this out!
Mind Blown!! Whatt?? Fabfilter is goated
This trick is so easy and i'm already tested it just now and my vocal sounds amazing.
Thank you very much this video
Can you explain to me why he puts the blue band where he does?
Wow, thanks for this! What a brilliant technique. I'm using Scheps Omni Channel and Fab Filter DS for De-essing.
Dope idea. Thanks Dude!
Hi Colt, GREAT tip! You are a LEGEND mate ;)
this was a sweet trick right here
You’ve earned a sub. And a fan. And student. 😊thank you so much.
AWESOME!
BRAVO!
Killer , now I know what the band/free buttons are used for. Dude, always helpful info that I can actually apply. Lighting looks different on your personal video . Looks better, I think. It always looked good, but it's crisp as hell now. Thanks for all the knowledge . Some of this stuff would take us years till we stumbled across the answer.
This just saved me💚🤝
I always thought the lower band on some deessers were cutting too much so I opted to disable that and just use the one on the high end.
But this is amazing! I believe this is how the lower band should work.
Great video!
Dope tips keep going 🔥🔥
Wow, what an amazing trick. I own the kirchoff eq which can do exactly the same as the Pro-Q. Thank you!
very interesting technique!
I like doing de essing manually by simply turning down those parts that need to be turned down. great video, thanks for the education.
thank you sir 😀
Ive been using that Fab MB for years but you thought me a lot here 👍
Great video ! can you please show us the rest of the vocal chain on this track?
yes yes yes once again this guy
thanks
Nice video👍
Hi Colt! Thanks for the awesome tip again! I encountered a strange type of problem about de-essing multiple times in my mixes. I wonder how you act in case of this type of issue in vocal track(s):
* Sibiliances are basically inconsistent. Sometimes hits very hard, sometimes moderate. When I adjust Pro-DS to a suitable level to the hardest one, it sounds good, but all the other sibilances become dull and lispy. Because of that, I tend to automate de-esser threshold for each "sh", "ch", "t" and "p" occurrences.
* I found a technique to overcome this hurdle, yet this one has multiple disadvantages: Extracting ESes and non-esses to dual track. I set Pro-DS to extreme de-essing settings. It completely erases es'es :) printed to a track. Inverted the output to hear S-only and printed to another track. Now you can clearly see and gain stage individual isolated S'es! This is incredible. Cons of this technique are obvious as you may think: too many printed tracks easily become very confusing and any changes to the original vocal tracks requires you to do this procedure from beginning.
Thank you very much!
Genius
wow.. loved it much more than fab deesser.. surely its not a magic thing that woks eveywhere, but when it does, it doesitvery nice. Thanks of that video, man. All the best for you!
That is not a trick you gave us, it's called magic. 😆 Thank you so much.
AWSOME.
Gonna give that a try, thanks! I use Fabfilter de-ess...but also have their MB....so will try that.....that 2-5k harshness vs clarity is tough stuff to balance.
Sick tip... multiband compression what u wanna use ✨️💕
you're DOPE bro!!1 I get a lot from your videos.
wonder if fab filter has any plans to update any of these amazing plugs soon. I wanna invest in the mixing suite this year. I’m convinced. amazing.
brooooooo thank you
Good trick! Thanks.
For those who don't have ProMB, I just thought of another way using TDR Nova Dynamic EQ.
You could send your vocal to an aux track, filter off all the frequencies below 10Khz, then sidechain that aux track to a 2-6Khz band on the original vocal track. TDR Nova has this option if you set the input detector to external sidechain. You can drag a source track onto a specific band and adjust the threshold to suit.
I've not tried this yet but it should work, unless I'm overlooking something stupidly obvious.
Make sure the aux track isn't being sent to the master bus and you should be good.
I was just thinking of a workaround to this as well for those like me who don't have ProMB and you solution makes sense. In fact, once you have the aux track setup, you can easily use ShaperBox 3 to sidechain the original vocal using the aux as the trigger, since they have added Audio triggers to ShaperBox now as well as band splitting.
@@wale.a "I was just thinking of a workaround to this as well for those like me who don't have ProMB and you solution makes sense"
I just wasn't sure if the 2-6Khz band could be triggered by the 10Khz+ frequencies, or if it would be ignored because they're not the same bandwidth. ie. Would this sidechaining method be volume or frequency reactive?
I'm still yet to try this.
And yes, there are other plugins that would do a similar thing. I just love Nova so tend to stick with that.
@@Dani-El. I haven't tried it myself either, but yes I think it will react to the frequencies at least in the case of ShaperBox, cos the audio trigger in it is just expecting to detect some kind of sound to make it do the ducking. So in this case, if we put the High Pass on the aux up to 10Khz+, then route it to the ShaperBox as trigger, then on the ShaperBox, isolate the band you want to duck to only the 2-6Khz range, I honestly think this would work.
you just gained a sub
I’ve seen similar techniques as this using a mb comp, but I’ve never actually tried it myself. I tend use automation combined with soothe2 and get really good results. But honestly, I ought to give this technique a try as well, maybe it’s a less tedious way to get what I want to achieve with de-essing 🤷🏻♂️
thanks.
Can you talk about phase rotation and do you fix it while mastering?
Dope👊🏽
Wow, what a super effective trick, I wonder if I can also use this on Hi hat's to tame the harshness
I got that mic too love it
@ColtCapperrune.Not following
Damn FabFilter. I have the ProQ3, and it’s got the best UI of any plug-in I have. Now I’m gonna have to get their m-band compressor.m, too.
Im note sure about that tip I find the higher parts of a vocal are super touchy.
thats powerfull
Wow, did not know you could switch the band to free. Very cool, def gonna use this
Such a killer tip! Use Pro-MB all the time, didn’t know you could do that haha
Hope it helps dude!
before i watch your videos i use to put a DS after all EQs e COMPs. Now its obvious that its the first thing i have to work on because I really dont want these wrong sibilances getting in the all plugins
Thanks dude appreciate ya. You probably could have used it on your dialogue for the vid it was pretty ssssssy. Do you run another desser after your other inserts such as compression on vox?
Yeah… After watching this video back, it made me realize that I need to overhaul my dialogue vocal chain in the video editing stage lol. I have a whole video over on the tech channel about how I mix my audio for video. But basically I’m just running a four or five band multiband compressor on dialog.
Have you played with the plugin, Soothe?
