Jim, the developer, is super kind dude. He streams the development on twitch sometimes.
Jim is a super awesome dude. Always stoked to hear about someone enjoying Duneonmans!
one of the best visually looking/aesthetic roguelikes ive seen ;]
i wish tales of maj'eyal would visually look like that lol ;d
the mix of those 2 games, would be ultimate roguelike in fantasy genre lol ;D
One of my favorite Traditional Roguelikes ever! This game has so may little details that other TRs do not! The persistent world adds a lot to enjoyment.
Most people don't know the secret weapons you can get taking your starter weapon to the star forge
@@DavidMooch not that it is going to help me, because fists are the best weapons, but could you tell me a little about these weapons? Do I need to fully upgrade the starter weapons first? I wish this game had a good wiki.
Really fun roguelike, one of the few I can stand playing for any length of time. Great to see you covering it!
Have you tried dungeons of dredmore?
Really great to see this game get covered. It embodies the traditional roguelike spirit, a long-term continuous & expanding work of the dev, who is also super nice
The fighting/movement in the dungeon reminds me of the game Rogue's Tale.
Absolutely adored this game since I first found it , so happy its getting more attention!
This is one of my favourite classic roguelike games, I think it was the first game I ever streamed. Absolutely brilliant. Bannermans forever.
Something I love about this game is that it's very fair. The metaprogression is not at all necessary to beat the game; every area signposts its difficulty level very clearly and there are lots of ways to get out of bad situations if you get in over your head, so it really feels like your fault every time you die. It only took me a couple of tries to get the achievement for finishing the game with the very first dungeonmans.
A fulll 1/3 of my steam library are games I saw from splatter. The publicity you give indie developers cannot be understated.
Same 100 plus games 😂
I picked up this game a while ago because of Splat's videos about it.
Love to see it circled back to! It's a great example of the genre.
This is so addictive. Look at all that loot. LOOK AT IT!! Thanks Splatty 🤩
I am looking at it!
Uuuuuh I played this like 4 years ago, and got really addicted, although I am not into classic roguelikes honestly. But this one had really nice mechanics and was totally fun. Awesome that it still gets updates and thanks for covering it Splat! Gonna look back into that 100%
I actually bought this after you showcased it in a video a couple of years ago :) still having fun with it
"Dread Purple" is totally my new band name :D
This is one of my favourite traditional roguelikes and the one I always recommend to people, because it's very accessible and basically exactly what they want. If they were hardcore grognard then they'd already have ascended Nethack or whatever, this is the game for people who just want the classic arcadey fantasy of turn based tile based dungeon crawling and looting and shooting.
This has been on my wishlist for years
I absolutely love this game, it has great graphics, and a good comical flair. I just wish there were more skills in the game for each class.
Oh man! I saw the major update they posted a couple days ago. I thought it would be awesome for you to cover it, but I wasn’t expecting to actually see it.
This game looks rad. Just what I've been looking for recently. Love the retro graphics. The overworld reminds me vaguely of my beloved Phantasie II/III series I put a lot of time into on the Atari ST back in the good old days.
Jim is the best! His game deserves this recognition for sure.
Dungeonmans doesn't do much new, but what it does is very polished and cleanly implemented
Backed this on kickstarter back in the day, haven't played it in ages, need to give it another shot.
Looks great, will grab it on next sale.
This game is awesome! Thank you for bringing more attention to it!
Hey Splattercat love your channel. This game was originally released in 2013, also each new character DOES get extra stats, if you found proofs of strenf, which you will if you play for any amount of time.
Really enjoy this game alot. One thing I've never seen is higher level play. Would love to see you do level 15+
It's funny that you mentioned ToME, I was watching this video and reinstalling ToME because this really reminded me of it xP
Combat really looks like Gold Box RPG. EXCELLENT
Been waiting for this game to be featured.
Pretty sure this is his fourth video on it 😂
@@sinisterdesign I’ve recently followed probably past year or so and don’t recall seeing it. Thank you though.
Yesss I love Dungeonmans, I'm glad to see you cover it and hope it'll boost the game's profile!
When I was little I had a pet chick named Pata (feet in Spanish cause he likes pecking on people feet) and now that you mentioned battle chickens I'm all in
Been playing since you last featured it. It's awesome on steam deck. Pets are kinda OP
21:05 Murder most fowl...
Honestly a very nice discovery thanks to you!
Ooh, shiny. I like this. Reminds me of that awesome open world Low Magic Age, but with a bit sharper structure (at least compared to last playthrough) - persistent progress is a nice feature. I really wish Sword of the Stars: The Pit had that!
The chicken breeding strategic layer is definitely a strange new thing, not going to lie!
It could be a Discworld reference with the color of magic being a sort of greenish purple.
Look at Splat explaining what a Triger is as if everyone wouldn't know Trigers since childhood anyway.
Awesome job. Found so many good games thanks to you. Keep up the good work sir
Good vid, as always, but you do get stat buffs for future characters depending on how many Proofs of Stremf (sp?) you bring back with all your characters.
Played so many hours on this one. Really enjoyed Dungeonmans. Good one for sure.
This game is awesome glad they're still making content
Yes, Dungeonmans is a great game with an awesome developer!
Thank you for pointing this out. It is going to be grabbed later this evening. Been itching for something like this
You had me at Battle poultry with comrade cluck
"Oie" 🤣 Mancs!!! 😆 As a scouser I concur. A pike seems the right tool to use 🤣😂🤣 *waves to Manchester next door*
I really enjoyed this game when it released. I oughtta check out the latest update. Every upgrade point does something impactful, and it's the only game I've seen that handles armor types in such a unique way.
i watch every friggen vid regardless of the game just because Splatt always makes me laugh. somehow, someway, everytime lol. soccer hooligans got me this time. looks like a fun game.
Another Gem, thanks Splat !
hey splattercat you might be interested in this game
ive been playing it for 100hrs now on steam and the name is GRIM REALMS
its literally soo good man because you can build your own colony while micromanaging literally every single thing while also defending and literally can travel and invade or meet new people
i swear ive been addicted to this
im serious man please TRY OUT GRIM REALMS!!!
Nice, love this game
I love this game! ❤
Great video as always.
I've actually played this game shortly after initial release It's great except that the final boss is actually, literally impossible to beat. Hopefully there's been some balance patches since then.
I used to love this game. Might have to check out some updates.
I really enjoy the dyslexia.
Don’t beat yourself up for having a disability. I’m sure your a nice girl.
I’m very surprised by this game. Kinda mad at myself for not finding it sooner
Hey Splat, just want to let you know i watched your videos for about two to three years now and i think you improved a lot how you approach these quick looks. I especially like that you skip the parts that ALL people are showing and skip a little further into the games. Most games are really different at the first hour and the real meat comes when the game has run for some amount of time. Thank you for your Videos, i enjoy them and often or not i bought a game based on your videos.
Chicken Attack!! It was SUPER effective! Wishlisted! This game is scratching a lot of itches for me and I can't wait to get paid so i can grab it.
Haha I think the purple magic might just be a reference to Discworld
Because you love this game and that is good.
you gain extra stats, last time i played you could increase your stats based on the supplies you found (not sure if it was called supplies)
ThankYou SirSpa77
Thy Dungeonman!
Better have a Trodgor! reference in there!
You can actually add your own sprites its in the heroskins folder
oh nice. i didn't know we had a new update for this.
THE ONE TIME THIS IS A ROGUELIKE HE DOESN'T PUT ROGUELIKE IN THE TITLE
I love the silly wordage of it. Stremf.
I always wondered how far one could advance on the programming of nethack.. this is just wow !
Love this game! And I definitely wasn’t cheating by backing up my save file and restoring it when I die.
The Dark Souls effect ;)
“He knocked some nuggets outta him”
Does anyone know any similar games? Maybe one with some visual changes when changing equipment.
10/10 game!
Is it Dread Purple Resist in reference to Dread Pirate Roberts? Same acronym?
The man who ran my FLGS growing up would run a space fleet battle game sometimes and introduce the enemy forces as The Dread Purpleonians, the name stuck with me decades later.
Splattycat, Splattycat, what are they feeding you?
Cool video
This is like a non card based guild of Dungeoneering
Hi splatt. I've been watching your videos for a quite while now. Can i request you to do a tier list of the games you play please? I like exploring new games but i dont really have much time :( It would be amazing to know your 'must play' s. Thanks ❤
This is a great idea.
Comrade Cluck lmao
I would not mind a few streams if this
Played this one to death !
For me, this tag: "Medieval", its like a magnet, insta click.
🖤
what is "stremf" anyway?
Not my cup of tea. But imma watch it just cause I like your content.
Did you get the Pay2Lose DLC?
As of watching this video, this got a new update 1.12.5b on November 8, 2023. Last 2 year, received 18 updates, and lots of upvotes. Yeah, buying it now at -67%
Your chicken is highly customizable." - Things only gamers (and evil genetic engineers) get to say. :)
Edit: Or maybe Colonel Sanders
If anyone is looking for a similar game to this, I recommend checking out Elona Plus. It's a fork of an old niche Japanese roguelike which plays quite similarly to Dungeonmans, but with more depth and way longer campaign length. In fact it got so much content now that I'd probably classify it more as an open world rpg than a roguelike.
Elona is amazing and was a big inspiration for me, I'll always be thankful for it. It's goofy, fun, deep as you want it to be, everyone who likes roguelikes should give it a try.
How would you say this compares to Tales of Maj Eyal?
TOME and Dungeonmans are the two main roguelikes I've played. I'd say it's very similar in gameplay. It has less variety in terms of builds, and is a bit more randomized, but they're actually pretty similar games. TOME is a difficult game to top, so it's not as good, but it's definitely good. If you want something similar (a sprite roguelike with a good UI that plays basically the same) there's nothing better out there.
TOME is better
17 cad i dont know if i spend that money on this game
GOTY
First
You number poo
Oh you aren't even number two. Get rekt
You're mispronouncing affix. The noun "affix" is pronounced with the emphasis more on the first syllable than you're saying, and the "a" sound is like the "a" in "hat".
You: ahFix
Better: Aafix
Meh...
Terrible game, mobs respawn endlessly in dungeons and doesnt give me the satisfaction of clearing a dungeon.
Cry more.
What are you talking about it clearly says "cleared" on dungeons
