If you guys and gals are interested in inexpensive Spey rods, the guy I purchased this rod from is ebay.us/fYgnuS on Ebay. Maybe if enough of us pester him he will get more cheap rods in stock. Also, he sells single hand rods and Euro Nymphing Rods on ebay and Facebook's Central Oregon Classifieds.
Awesome. I shook the welding tree last week and 300 bucks fell out. I’m gonna look at that rod for sure. Thanks for the heads up!!
Good luck! Ebay has some good buys! You should be able to get a good outfit for that. Holler if I can help!
Your videos are awesome. Love them
Thanks much!!!
Good day, I tried a bunch of "spay rods" from E-bay, I was just learning to cast spay. They do work, they are heavy and somewhat cumbersome but they do work. At the point of frustration and where conditions were good, I would cast it with both hands like a fly rod, and holy crap can they throw line! It was fun and I was not too worried about braking rods.
Good stuff. I have a couple single handers and feel the same way about them. not perfect but get the job done!
Got to love budget finds....I got to check them out when they become available again!
Thanks Peter. Keep an eye on ebay!
Awesome video! Wish I saw this video sooner. I had a Redington chromer that I busted in half the third cast I ever attempted. These would have a better option while learning.
Thanks Nicolas. Remington does have shoos warranty? No?
@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins I got it through Amazon. I just had to take it to a ups store and amazon gave me a full refund.
Love this channel. Down to earth and real knowledge. Great casting thanks
Glad you enjoy it!
That’s a solid deal. Hopefully, they come back in stock.
yeah, keep an eye on Ebay, but be wary, The guy who sold it to me advertise as Spey Rods by Roger, good seller but seems to be leaning more into single hand fly rods and Euro nymphing rods.
Hi my friend 😁
As I'm have say before you dont cast whit how much money you put in. The IM6 blanks are okey hard find a poor one. Taper of a blank is important sure. And technique is the most important! I have show that before many times.
I use a cheap China made Toray IM12 blank who cost me 46$ and it come whit 2 tips as well!
And it's a fast action rod and heck it cast as a rocket trust me ! So as many people dont know is now those days most blanks are made in Asia.
And they are good on carbon fiber material.
So love you bring this subject up because its silly today have the fishing stores actually push for the experience rods as beginners.
I say buy a medium price rod to start whit! Because those are so good those days. And as progress comes on upgrade.
Next first rod make the outcome what next rod will be. Best regards from Sweden Scandinavia 🇸🇪
True Story! I agree, there are some great mid price rods available! Thanks Bjorn!
The Great Henrick Mortensen
Had a thing called a z pey I think you should develop a rod extension to add on to single hand rods . I bet they are all kinds of action that could be found in all sorts older rods for trout Spey and switch
not a bad idea!!!
no more $40 spey rods i can find..nice vid..thanks
Cool, thanks. Traditional Spey Casting with a medium belly Spey line!
This would be great to learn on, I hope they come back in stock soon. Maybe post the link anyways that way we can keep an eye out ourselves.
yeah its a good learner rod. Seller on Ebay goes by the name, by Roger,

Just found your channel. Loving the content. I just bought a cheap rod on Amazon based on your review here. I want to get into 2 handed to be able to cast further when no back cast is available and I want to be able to cast overhead on the beach. I bought an aventik rod with these stats. , 13’6” LW8/9, modern shortened double hand design, classic fast spey rod action, excellent power transfer with great accuracy in spey casting. Great rods at affordable price.
Any advice on the head, running line I should use?
Rod is 13’ 6” 8/9 weight. Thanks in advance for your help.
Cool! I think you’ll like the rod, I’d love to hear how you like it. What fish are you planning on targeting with the rod, what kind of rivers and what kind of flies do you think you will use?
Not much you'll get for $40 these days, interesting though....that's a steal though....🙂👍
Do you ever fish for spring Chinook on the west side rivers like the Clackamas? If so, do you have a rod recommendation for that kind of fishing?
I haven’t but A 13’ or 13’6” 8/9 weight ought to do the trick! You should do it! Good luck and let me know how you do!
@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins Thank you!
Ever had any experience with Maxcatch Skytouch rods? I believe they are switch and Spey and cost roughly 100-120$.
no but Ive had a couple of their single handers. I'm sure they make a fine spey rod for the price. I wanna do a review of them, so stay tuned...I'm working on it
Thanks brother, you bring hope to us who are tight on $$. Won't lie, I'm disappointed there's no link at the moment, could you say the brand and model?
I cant find it anymore, Appears they are sold out. I'll try to do a review on Maxcatch, those are the next cheapest that I would trust.
Lovit!!!! Great video and promotion for people!!
Thanks so much!!
This is great to know, thanks! Because of you, I've just ordered a 12' 6/7wt blank for a couple bucks that I'm going to learn to build rods with! Any suggestions on the cork shape/which spey rod has your favorite cork shape?
Thanks!
thats great to hear RC. I personally like a full wells grip situated where I can keep my hands reasonably close together, such as hip width or a tad closer. I hope that makes sense. Of course you might want cork above and below the full wells part of the grip. I have given this a lot of thought. Most spey grips miss the mark IMO. Hopefully I can do a video about this!
I throw a 325 groove on a 71010 switch, you think that rod might be a little more al dente if you stepped down to 250 or even a 225 groove?
By the way awesome video!
Yeah, that might be a good idea but it depends on if you feel like that 325 is overloading that rod. to me it seems like I can really load a rod heavy and it can handle it, up to the point it feels like its starting to fold or I have to slow down my stroke so much that I cant generate the line speed I want. When I'm getting a rod dialed I like to try several line sizes. Even then I find that after I pick the line, I wished I had chosen a different one!
@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins solid advice. It’s crazy to think coming from one hand guiding in MT, the two handed world lining is fun learning curve. Distance, feel, avg tip thrown all can play into the manufacturers suggested grain, and that is a big job for the newcomer in 2h. Hmm, summers coming = largest entry into the sport, video idea to help the noobies?
I’ll never say X grain is right now until trying over under one size both ways. I’d say the 325 groove is right on the money for the mix of distance and feel for the Echo SR 71010. I throw t8 and max t11, I’d step down 25 grains if I was planning on throwing t14 or long tips 12+ft. I found a shop that let me take their OPST wallet out as long as I left my dog...
Different question...what reel are you using for the demo?
a cheap double click and paw. I'm thinking I'm gonna start spending more on reels though. this one is too cheap. Shakespeare Beulite or JW young are great used reels at a great price on ebay!
hi Tim. Another great one!
The problem with those Chinese super deals is not the quality. Their manufactures make rods for the whole world, including very high end products. They know how to roll a carbon prepeg into a fine blank.
No, the problem when you give them your money is the society model you support. And when you look into it you might learn some really nasty stuff. But apart from that, the blanks and the rods are fine, and offer a value no one paying western labor and taxes could ever match.
Unfortunately we are all most likely supporting that model when we use our Iphones too, and who knows what else. I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm not sure that me buying a cheap rod is supporting any societal model.
you're right, there are way more serious issues about our phones than the rods.
Anyway, since we're talking labor and I know you're tinkering rods, I'd really love to know what you think about the NFC spey blanks (the FASY series). I've got a switch 11' 6wt which I like a lot, but then I don't know much about spey rods. I hope someday you have an opportunity to cast one, and share with us what you think
I didn't see the link for finding one kf those rods, I wouldn't mind buying one at the price of 40 bucks just to try out spey casting, fishing, I've been fly fishing for so long I don't know if I will be able to change my ways of casting, but for the price kf that, its worth giving it a shot. Whats the link???
I think the rod is sold out. Your next best bet is MaxCatch on Ebay. I've bought a couple of their single hand rods and they are legit for the money. The most important thing to remember about Spey casting is that its basically just a roll cast, you will have a advantage over someone who hasn't fly fished at all. Another thing you can do is just buy a little scandi head, like the SA Scandi spey lite and use it on your standard fly rod with your normal tapered leader and a small wooly bugger. good luck
Great videos, very helpful to a beginner in skagit casting as I am. I do not know if this is the wright channel to ask questions about my gear which my dealer recommended me to buy, but I giv it a try: My rod is a 13,7 ft #8/9 480-525 gr., the line is a OPST commando head 550 gr. 20 ft., and a SA UST Tip 120 gr. 10ft. How does this look to you, totally wrong or?
that looks good. I am not aware though if OPST has a commando head o that heavy. If you are not too tall go with a 525 Rio skagit max short but if your tall I would try a 525 Skagit Max or similar. everything else sound good
What is the name of the rod and where did you get it.
Got it off Ebay, Seller is by Roger, but now it seems to have sold out. Sorry
What rod is it? You never say and it’s not in the description 🤷♂️
I love watching your videos. Your such a down to earth person. So cool
I could not find it for sale on the web. I think it sold out. MaxCatch on ebay is your next best bet. I will try to find one and do a review.
Thanks Philip! That makes my day! Cheers!
does he have a website.. would love to get a rod like this for a freind... i will post videos of him wrapping himself up in the line.. should be funny.. good pretty good fly guy.. but only basic cast.. and he keep talking about getting a spey rod.. ;ease keep up up todate on new rods for sale, thank you
sounds like some of my videos LOL, He lists some of his
rods on One of the Central Oregon Facebook, buy, sell, trade pages. He should be able to find, or check fly rods by Roger on Ebay.
Oh sure, get us all pumped up for a cheap Spey rod and then you buy them all up yourself. 😂. We know your kind. DM me and I’ll buy one from your stash. 🤔 ...and for the life of me, I don’t know why you don’t have 50k subs!
Thanks brother, I was gonna buy a bunch of them but only picked up this one and they were gone. I'm working on finding something just a tad better I can promote. I'll holler if I decide to sell this!
I just got a brand new LTS 13 6 explosive for £350..they list at £825 😁
Smokin' good deal! I hear those are amazing rods! good on ya!
@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins I'm waiting for it to arrive. I'll let you know my thoughts on it. 👍🏻
@@mbal4052 Right on!!!!
