A bit unfortunate that some of the 'title cards' for some players is messed up. (brokys has footage of hunter, hunters has footage of sunpayus). Other than that, great format.

for what it's worth I enjoyed the little 30s-1minute quick rundown of the player before revealing them. allowed me to try and guess who you picked. Would enjoy seeing this in the next two videos

Started watching CS in 2017, watching the minors leading up to Krakow. NiKo quickly became my favorite player, but in the last couple of years it's almost been even MORE fun to watch hunter. His consistency, calm nature, and incredible skill is so unique. He reminds me of fer and rain in those ways, and those are two of my absolute all time favorites too. What a legend.

Jks is probebly a good candidate for it. but Magisk have better stats then him in almost every thing. even tho it close. Probebly a question of prefrens. not sure who the 3 place candidate shold be tho, maybe Dycha? @@mariushager9983
@@mariushager9983jks has the problem that he played on g2. Sure kato and Cologne wins but didnt post incredible stats at Cologne and other that g2 has Barley made playoffs at all

Sh1ro had such a big downfall this year. In the first half he was the only player to rival Zywoo, with some peoppe saying he might even beat out Zywoo for number 1 if Zywoo deopped off even a little bit. Not he's not even cracking top 10. Hope he comes back man
he's cracking top 10 for certain. this is launders worse pick, even though half of his 11-20 make no sense (none of cadian/xertion/twistzz/sh1ro/sunpayus will find themselves between 11 and 20).
@@bobbobinski4285I kinda understand his reasonings for the rankings but his crteria just seems to be way way different from how you'd expect it to be. I highly doubt the HLTV top 20 will look like anything similar
this is sh1ro's most unlucky year in his tier 1 career imo. In the first half he was playing 1v9 basically every match, then they tried to experiment with igl electronic and it didn't work out and now he's sitting without a team for two months already. The most unlucky scenario in my opinion.
but his stats still indicate he should be top 5 at the lowest and frankly 3rd is where I've got him unless m0nesy manages to get an EVP from World Finals.@@cloke3076
@@cloke3076 third scenario really isnt unlucky though, he chose to sit out. He could be attempting to make it work with the roster finally having an IGL now, one of the most successful when he had a good roster, but nope, for some reason despite clearly being the missing piece to C9, he just clooses not to

I disagree with stavn being here tbh. It's not because of the incident but because whenever it came to big matches and finals he was never on the server, consistently being near the bottom. While he was the most important factor in why Heroic were going so deep into tournaments he was also the reason why they never won anything, with Cadian usually stepping up to the challenge.
He's definitely gonna be there lol. He has a better rating at big events than last year when he was #10.

I feel you did Elige a little dirty there at 19 tbh. The man picked up a new team and a new game and instantly put them in the top 5, that's a legend right there.
I mean, I'd say it's fair? He didn't even get top 20 last year and until CS2 he was at least as bad as last year. We've gotta consider CS:GO and CS2 proportionally, not equally
no 19 is right about the highest elige can reach. if anything it's generous. launders kinda fucked the list imo because he's missing 4 top 20 players but has added 3 who shouldn't be top 20 (nertz, magisk, ax1le, electronic missing but cadian/xertion/twistzz present) not to mention the questionable ranking within the top 20 (kscerato/blameF top 10, sh1ro 15th, sunpayus 11th)

Great video lau, I noticed a small error. When you shower off hunter, the title card was for sunpayus. Then for sunpayus, the same title card. Just wanted to point it out

I paused the video after top 19 cause i was tired after work and needed some sleep, so i went to sleep and dreamed that top 18 was NAF, it was crazy. When i wake up i couldnt remember if it was a dream or was for real and had to come check. Nice list for now.
Broky getting on here makes me happy. I feel like he gets left in the dark because it’s cool to hate faze, but he has vastly improved over 2023
He been good over the past 2 years, people just like sleeping on him, same with a couple more players, while others are massively overrated.
Vastly improved in '23? He was great in '22.
Improved? No. His best year was still 2022 where he finished as an arguably top 5 player but he makes the top 20 this year too imo

Lau, for the 13th spot the animation shows 12 and for the 12th it shows 11, a little editing mistake but its understandable, I love the video though, waiting for the next ones!

Actually I can't even imagine a real top-20 list without Jame.
Yes he might not have much of the highlights, but this man is a creator of the unique gamestyle, which makes VP one of the hardest teams to play against even without big star players. His calmness, discipline, ability to control the economy on the server and the fact that it is so hard to kill him on server makes Jame one of a kind

I feel like twistzz at 14 is a bit too high, all the faze fans that I know feel like he has been way too inconsistent this year, and has been a huge reason as to why faze has struggled prior to cs2. He held them back massively in Rio , Paris and Cologne, three of the biggest tournaments in 2023. There was this talk about him no longer being motivated after winning pro league early in the year , something that he sort of confirmed himself. I don't think a late surge in cs2 is worthy of a top 14 placement. I mean other than Karrigan, he is the only one that dropped below a 0.9 hltv rating , and he did it multiple times (in some of the biggest events too). I have higher expectations of a top 14 player, and especially of a faze rifler.
Twistzz is my favorite player but having Twistzz above sh1ro hurt my soul
twistzz at 14 and no rain is crazy (theres literally no way rain is in the top 10)
Those are good points, I still stand behind twistzz being the third biggest player for faze and is always better than his stats when I watch faze but 11-20 is always a bit harder to lock down exactly where someone precisely is over a year
@@torinkeenan2718sh1ro just had so many fewer runs, no wins, minimal cs2 data that didn’t look good and slightly inflated stats based on his style. I believe sh1ro massively but he also had important games where I saw him choke despite having a strong KD
@@launders 100% valid reasoning it’s just with sh1ros natural skill and potential its sad to see the guy out of top 5. But he absolutely doesn’t deserve to be in top 10 this year

I need to watch sunpayus more because I didn't realize he was so highly rated. tbh most ence matches I've watched deep in tournaments he doesn't have as much impact as I expected. I guess just undersampling bias tho

I honestly quite like the list so far. Very fitting that Cadian is here at 20 when last year, his CIS counterpart was in at 20. Jabbi definitely had a massive falloff over the second half of the year, so he went from a top 10 player to maybe a top 15 for me. Sh1ro, because of Cloud9 not being a Blast partner, didn't get a whole lot of play during the year, and because of Cloud9's passive style emphasizing saving the AWP, his HLTV rating is inflated, at least to me. The one thing that seems strange to me is Stavn. Sure he's definitely been disappointing in the biggest games, but with all the deep runs that Heroic has had this year, I would have thought he was a top 10 player at the very least.
might want to check your eyes if you think sh1ro being outside the top 10 isn't as strange as stavn who has no right to be in the top 10. he's #2 in KPR ahead of all your favorite players -zywoo, #1 for rounds with kills and top 3 for rating vs top 5 opponents behind NiKo and zywoo.

What makes sh1ros placement event more ridiculous is that Laus main argument for said placement is the fact that Sh1ro has no tournament wins and only a small amount of deep tournament runs. However lau will have Kscerato, Blamef and device all above Sh1ro, while said players have even less deep runs than Sh1ro and are missing the tier 1.5/2 tournament wins that Sh1ro had this year. Also s1mple will be above Sh1ro with stats significantly worse and only a bit more deep runs.
EXACTLY. Also frozen/spinx have worse stats and aren't even much better in accolades because each had at least 1 event WIN where they sucked as well as a few subpar deep runs.@@timmodrow437

But I just wanted to point out how little sense Laus explanation for sh1ros placement (the fact that he had few deep tournament runs) makes when considering that 2-3 people with even worse deep tournament runs will be somewhere in the top 10 (atleast 5 places higher up than Sh1ro) while having worse stats.

can't believe you didn't include any of nertz/electronic/ax1le/magisk but somehow twistzz/cadian/xertion made it. sh1ro was also criminally low given you gave Kscerato top 10 with NO deep runs and BlameF top 10 with fewer deep run s than sh1ro. better stats than m0nesy this year who I'm almost certain you put 3rd.
also forgot s1mple who had worse stats and almost the exact same number of deep runs but again worse stats.

That’s gonna be pretty high for sh1ro considering he has no CS2 presence, no majors no tournament wins and few deep runs. He was the best in the few games they played and obviously passes the eye test but also choked once or twice
its like you forgot ropz excists and that theres the young generation like donk, frozen, jimpphat and so on who look better then niko from mechanical point of view at least.
@@laundersre: Niko, I see, fair enough. Niko did have a much better 2nd half, and I missed the first six months part that you mentioned in the vid.
re: Shiro, I guess I understand if you value entire tournament impact more. Though, I think on a team like C9 that was pretty much wholly washed up first half of 2023 and was still finding their footing after the Navi core move, Shiro personally seemed like their pillar through and through on a game to game basis.

Jimmphat is FAR from being best rifler. Again, recency bias. We're talking the ENTIRE 2023 year. He had a great EPL and has been good since but the discussion is BEST rifler.
Donk quite literally hasnt played enough this year for us to even judge if he can play well on big stages or consistently for an entire year.
Frozen is my second best rifler, not the first. He's damn close, but Niko sweeps on impact alone. Next year, I predict he'll be the top rifler even with Donk around, but this year is clearly Niko.

Twistzz #1 best rifle player, only second to s1mple after a few beers.
I still have Shiro as a top 5 player personally but I think where I agree with you would be that he hasn't won anything. The other years, he put up Zywoo beating number which offset his lack of team success.
