Astralis is basicaly the team which made cs looks how it actually looks today. They created all the metas. They created the actual game.
yeah like all of the util plays and setups are regularly tried by other teams but astralis made all of them

Imagine getting absolutely nuked three rounds in a row while being a cs super star and without seeing a single opponent in those rounds. That’s how I’d imagine playing against prime Astralis, frustrating af
Not just that, imagine seeing dupreeh walk through a smoke and kill two on site, dev1ce walk randomly throughout the map for a 3k, Xyp9x slowly kill 4 people in a clutch one-by-one, Magisk completely stonewall a T-push with a spray down on 3, or gla1ve getting flashed in for a 2k and then he gets instant traded by dev1ce.
Individually, they were good, but together and in their roles with the freedom they afford each other, they became gods. Truly the most unfair team to play against.
@@zettour. Argh I'm so fucking pissed I won't get to see prime Astralis live again with your descriptions. It was the little things, glaive was always probing and flanking, he was one of the best at just making space and gathering info. That part of his game is so underrated and obviously never makes it into ''highlight'' videos, but he did it constantly, and put up numbers for an IGL. Magisk in pit...he was just a rock with those sprays and the missing piece of the puzzle, dupreeh was a beast with the rifle and could fill in AWP at any time, device being so consistent with the AWP but not just being flashy, but intelligent, and then even if you defeat all of that, you still have to deal with Xyp in a clutch. Something even Simple himself would have been worried about.
Must have felt like being in a pressure cooker playing Astralis just slowly being boiled o matter where you went or what you tried.
You're right, I think individually they were great (the whole team was in the top 20 at one point after all but they obviously weren't the 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc best) but as a team they were so good they were called "boring". Doesn't matter who replaces them, or even if they all came back today as individually they're probably not all as strong now (that fall off for Xypnx after Summer 2020 is brutal), nothing will replace my hype for watching Astralis just shut down superteam after superteam. In fact once they all started leaving my interest in pro CS also went down
@@RifleEyez Agreed. Wasn't just Astralis though, seeing that Liquid roster disintegrate was heart-wrenching. Even though they never won a major, they were so good. If not for Astralis, NA would've had their first era with the best 3 riflers in NA history at the helm not to mention how well they worked under adreN and nitr0 with Stewie2k rounding out the team as probably the best Jack of all trades since olofmeister.
CS also just got so bland and random after COVID. During COVID was pretty good actually since you have unique styles from BIG to VP to Gambit and to the more old-fashioned NAVI. But then afterwards, it just felt like what Kobe Bryant called "accidental basketball" or "accidental CS" in this case. Doesn't help that Heroic were the only team that relied on teamwork and NAVI got rekted by the war. From then on, we got dominated by Vitality, FaZe, and G2 who are all just so overly reliant on star power and out aiming their opponent that it's frustrating to watch sometimes.
Hopefully Spirit, MOUZ, NAVI, and dare I say it Falcons/Astralis usher in a better and stronger era of CS because what we've had so far since 2021 NAVI was probably the weakest CS since maybe the French superteams of 2015 (no diss on them, just CS evolved since). That's why it hurts more to see cohesive teams like Apeks, Mongolz, Monte, and ENCE just get straight up out-talented despite having better teamwork. Low tier rosters know how to play, high tier rosters don't, and we get the most "competitive" era because every team is basically just as bad as each other.
The utilities use the timing and the gameplay is just perfect.

I remember when Astralis made nightmares out of every team who got into the major. Especially at the Faceit Major 2018.

They completely innovated how cs is played.
Never forget how they picked Vertigo against Liquid in the major semi final. Liquid was not prepared for that, they atuomaticaly won the map.

Damn i miss this team so much, but after hearing Zonics interview with Thorin, it was quite clear that this dominance couldn’t continue in the long run, cuz of how much work they had to put into it.
There has NEVER been a team this consistently dominant. I highly doubt we will ever see this again.

As much as I hated this team becuase of how many times they would beat 2019 liquid, can't help but recognize that they were the best team ever in csgo.
I am prime Astralis fan but I felt very sad for TL at that time. I hope they won against them at least once but it never happened

I saw the first clip live. When the execute started I was like what the hell they cant recover from this anymore, fnc was about to win that and they pulled out their major strat
14 S-Tier titles, 3 Major titles, 27 3rd place or better finishes. 5 players in top-20 in 2018, 4 players in 2019. Absolutely unreal to repeat.

I went and watched ESL in ATL last week and never saw any cool mollys like the intro or anything like that. It was still fun but legit nothing super memorable happened besides Nawwk knifing someone.
A team so good they were called boring. What a compliment that is now. No I miss them. I haven't really cared for pro CS since. I really valued their consistency, felt like a real sport.

NiP era was great, Fnatic era was epic, Astralis era was just on another level. They made viewing CS as a esport kinda boring since you knew they were gonna win everything they were in. And they did, for three years.
I miss the Aug meta. I used the Aug for months and swore it was better than the M4 for so long. No one believed me and then the pros started to use it
It was better but more expensive and then the price of the aug was cheaper so it was used

In someways, they dictated how CS is played by most teams these days, obviously not 100% but you get what i mean. Respect for what other rosters did, Fnactic, NIP etc. but this takes the cake. Doubt we'll ever see anything like this for a long time.

They have to run it back one time. You already know it will be a millions times better than the nip dignitas stint. This astralis couldn’t beat top teams, but the players with todays evolution could. device and magisk are still beats Dupreeh and glaive are decent and would probably play better in this team anyway, just keep blameF because xyp9x is unrecoverable.

He just isn’t someone you can count on, you see him holding a position and in you’re head you’re thinking he’s going to be the opening kill, but if magisk was there you’re thinking he’s good for 2 here or one and some damage. I am mad about jw falling off though, hands down the most entertaining player to watch ever, I watched a game of him in eyeballers and he had a free kill, pulled out his knife to go for a knife kill and the guy turned around and killed him, still bought a smile to my face though some things never change he couldn’t help himself.

Prime astralis are extremely outdated compared to today's cs teams. They would get eliminated by current astralis with blamef igling whether they have stavn/jabbi or buzz/b0rup
The thing that made prime astralis special was their nade work and coordination, that's the exact same reason why they fell off in 2020 after the rest of the teams caught up. I have no doubt that even 2021 navi would smoke prime astralis
CS strats and gameplay hasn’t always only evolved positively, you’d be insane to think 2023 Navi is better than 2021 Navi and same goes for S1mple. Current Meta isn’t very impressive and you rarely see innovative protocols being run, or clever anti strats. Ropz 2023 plays like ropz 2021 and is currently top 2 player, goes to show how everything has taken a step back

I want to wake up all of the delusional people in this comment section who actually think that Prime Astralis would beat any of today's CS teams and remind them that the game has evolved post-2018-2019 so much to the point that the current Astralis would beat them. When you say that Prime Astralis would beat any of today's best teams, you're not just saying that they'll win because of individuals, you're also saying that they'll win because of how they played the game, which is entirely different from how pro cs is played today.
Regarding Prime Astralis, what mainly made them great wasn't their firepower, but their strats/calls and teamwork (especially when it came to their utility usage). The problem is that those strats/calls that made them dominant from 2018-2019 are now outdated, so if you put them against any of the top 30 teams today, they would get destroyed. If Prime Astralis somehow managed to beat any of today's teams, they would win because their individuals are in their prime, not because of their outdated strategies/calls.
Also, during their era, they were so far ahead of their time (especially from the FACEIT Major 2018 - IEM Katowice 2019) that before the Faceit 2018 major, there were only 3 teams that were able to beat and win tournaments against them. Those 3 teams were Faze, Navi, and North. Besides those 3 teams, no other team was able to beat them during their era. The competition was not that strong because Astralis were just that far ahead of everyone else, but nowadays, the scene is extremely competitive and everyone has not only adapted to the system that Astralis built in their era, but has surpassed it entirely.
Right to some point. At that time any team could try to use some of their strats or try to read or counter them but they couldnt do it for a long time. Thats why they were so dominant. Game has evolved, just look at Awp role where you had Pasha one of the greats who couldnt move and now you have Monesy and Zywoo who are running and gunning with the AWP. Game is changing thats a fact but everyone is trying to be dominant as Astralis back in the days and thats the whole point. Nothing to do with new strats and changing of the game. We are waiting for some team to be again so far ahead of this current time or even some time in the future
You might be right, but you have to give credit when credit's due. Every team today is using a ton of utillity mainly because of Prime Astralis, they were the pioneers :)
They were great because their fire power and their chemistry was godlike aswell. Both Magisk and device are worse now than during their Astralis prime, however they are still considered top20 players. Dupreeh back in the days was equally as good as Magisk and one of the best entry Fraggers (therefore prime would be still in the top 20 today). Xyp9x was also quite good mechanically (not much worse than dupreeh) and his game sense (especially in clutches) was great. There is no doubt that the prime Astralis roster would have 4 top 20 players, alongside an igl with good fire power if they played today. Of course their strats would be outdated but it is reasonable to assume that they would adapt.
They certainly wouldn‘t be as dominant as in their 2018-2019 days, but would still be title contenders.
That’s like saying every Pilot today is better than the Wright Brothers, which has some truths to it, but you’re dismissing the greatness here
Astralis basically innovated the gameplay, while everyone is focused on tactical aim, this team utilized every feature of the game to their advantage.
The question is if there is going to be another team that were as good as Astralis, they entered tourneys and major leagues whilst knowing they’ll instantly win, even the fans know that.
