Chris could cover anybody but no one can cover him. Chris dialed up a certain frequency that many of us relate to. He screamed our pain so we don’t have to. Incredible gift!
Chris was in a class all his own. He could sing with raw emotion and scream, in tune, rocking out. My heart broke the day he passed. His song I Almost Forgot My Broken Heart is an amazing song. I've listened to it a lot! Thanks for this video 💜
Chris Cornell was the best singer I needed to listen to more of in my youth and didn't. Once I figured that out I was on a Cornell audio binge for a long time. Super appreciate his talent and feel for everyone that lost him in person or through his music.
So happy to see the joy you have hearing and watching Chris perform. Since you love Chris so much try this, if you haven't already. Sit in a quiet place and listen to his solo project Higher Truth in it's entirety. His range and stylistic abilities were remarkable. His music in all it's forms still brings tears to my eyes... so missed.
Dave Grohl said when Soungarden came out with Black Hole Sun it put Soungarden way ahead melodically of all the other bands! Coming from Dave that means a lot!
So nice to have found this post Arab Man! I have never recovered from Chris Cornell having left us. No one can emulate him because apart from his awesome range and tone, there was his emotional connection to everything he did - written by him or even on the covers he did. Speaking as you did of Audioslave - when I heard The Last Remaining Light after his death - it almost broke me into pieces. It resonated so much for several reasons but the vocal performance is breathtaking. I am crying just typing this. Like the line from Black Hole Sun - the medallion I wear is inscribed 'no one sings like you anymore...' For a long time I only listened to all Chris Cornell. Then went through a period where it was so painfully sad. Now back again - post more please
Chris is my all time favourite vocalist and Soundgarden my second favourite band after Tool. He left an incredible legacy of music. And people will continue to discover his unique talent for years to come. Seasons (from The Singles Soundtrack) and Soundgarden - Hands All Over are my two personal favourite vocal performances
What I loved so much about Grunge bands is the fact that they would change melodies live. Layne was great at it but I think that Chris was the master of live improvisation.
*I appreciate your appreciation for Chris. He is my favorite musician, singer...poet. This isn't the version I thought it was..lol Yes, listen to the studio version then watch his performance from SeriusXM version. You will not be disappointed i promise💚*
Chris Cornell's fry vocals are nothing short of Legendary. The number of effects and colors he can incorporate are endless... He painted with so many colors and styles. The thing that always stands out to me is that Chris live never performed the straight melody on acoustic sets. He would switch things up with dynamics and note choices constantly.
I was very sad when Chris Cornell died too. I had never been affected like that by the death of someone that I didn’t know. It felt like such personal loss. He is not my favorite singer, but he probably has one of the greatest voice
I love many artists. Some talk to my brain, some talk to my heart, some talk to some weird spiritual thing - Chris talks to my depression. And I don't mean that in a bad way, he just shares the black beast with me and he communicates with it. He can express the pain that I can't even disclose to my friends and family, in a way that makes it bearable. Not sure if I can properly explain, but he has a very unique position in the soundtrack of my life.
I still remember when "Grunge" hit the music scene & everyone, & I do mean EVERYONE, was just gushing about & over Pearl Jam, but for me Sound arden just resonated with me at such a deeper level that they dominated my musical preferences. Nirvana came close, as did STP, but NO ONE could touch how Chris & the rest of Soundgarden was able to open up a completely new musical world for me. The only other band that could really compete was AIC, & it was the fact that both bands could place their darkness on display for the entire world to see without demanding absolution or sympathy while still being able to say "Your Not Alone Anymore, There ARE Others That Hurt Like You Do & You Don't Need To Let Your Own Darkness Destroy Yourself." Honestly between Soundgarden & Alice In Chains, the two bands probably saved my life & defiantly saved my soul. Chris & Layne are both missed desperately, the how & why of their loss Hurts but they were able to show me how to keep living. Rest in peace brothers, a great gift was given to us the day you found your voices & you will NEVER be forgotten.
AIC were my favorite grunge era band but Radiohead are a genre unto themselves and they are still great better than any of the so-called grunge bands in my opinion STP and Smashing Pumpkins were underrated I probably like Nirvana least pretty boring musically I would much rather listen to AIC than Nirvana.
Chris, Eddie, and Layne are all incredible - and distinct from each other. No one sounds like Chris or can. But you don’t have to. The lesson is to not try. Try to sound like the absolute best *you* that you can. That’s all those guys did.
Yay! I love to find Chris fans. Have you listened to his solo stuff? When I’m Down live at the Troubadour Seasons - Studio/Jam version Billie Jean cover live @ MSN The whole Songbook album is wonderful. Acoustic versions of some of his best songs. Also a beautiful cover of Led Zeppelin’s Thank You. BTW the SiriusXM version of Fell on Black Days is even better! 🙂
Brother, you made my mouth water with all that excellent food you mentioned...yes I've had all you mentioned....absolutely my favorite food. Oh, great artist and song review!
It's just such a win/win situation when you could see him visibly moved by his own damn voice and yet he still reigns it in the shares the stage. He was just such a good person all around. Very empathetic and humble. He was such a huge loss for all those reasons and more.
Soundgarden has beautiful songs you will love. You just have to listen to all songs to find the one's you love. I have listened to his complete library that includes all the bands he was in and solo work. I did this on Spotify ❣️ I listen to Chris Cornell every day. That is shocking even to me.
You're severely missing out on Soundgarden man! Some of his greatest vocal performances ever were Soundgarden songs! Highly recommend Like Suicide, Cold Bitch, Slaves and Bulldozers, Beyond The Wheel, Jesus Christ Pose, Limo Wreck and my personal favourite is Fresh Tendrils
Chris Cornell wrote a song called Live To Rise it's in one of those Robert Downey Jr. movie it was a Marvel movie. Growing up on Led Zeppelin, Elvis, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, I'm positive Chris Cornell is right up there at the top with the best. To me the thing that throws Chris Cornell a step ahead are the lyrics & how he wasn't afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve.

If you haven't heard it yet, you should seek out his cover of Nothing Compares To You, the song Prince wrote for Sinead O'Connor to sing. It's in a similar setting and it's spectacular. So different and soulful. It's here on YT somewhere.
I’m guessing this wasn’t “way back when” because he seems older as does his band mates. This was probably after he and Soundgarden reunited, after Audioslave.

Chris Cornell was my cousin. Thank you for keeping his music alive
I was an Audioslave fan, then started listening to Soundgarden. Soundgarden does it for me now. Such an awesome band.
Chris, Chester, Eddie and Layne are in a Class of they own. Absolutely beautifully unique voices ✌❤🤘
