Yeah the Vancouver olympics maybe the better known performance she has done of this song, but her singing it to Leonard at his tribute concert is the single definitive performance of this song period. NO ONE will ever top this performance of this song. KD is just beyond amazing here. I am so glad to say she is Canadian and proud to have her as one of our own. I have loved her music for decades, the power and the sweetness and the sultriness is beyond compare and that's saying nothing of the theatrics she throws in for entertainment purposes. To me this is one of the most Canadian moments ever. A person, who I think is the best singer Canada has ever produced (with nods to Joni, Burt, Celine and Mr. Buble) singing a song written by the best songwriter Canada has ever produced (with nods to Neils Young and Peart, Joni, Burt and Bryan) at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. An amazing moment in Canadian sport and music history.
And there's Kris Kristofferson's For the Good times, and Keith Whitley singing Don't close your eyes. And Eric Clampton's Tears in Heaven. Or Holy Mother with Pavarotti
First time I've ever seen someone cry listening to a song the first time ... much less someone reacting to a song. Heartfelt ... no higher compliment to a singer. Remember watching this performance during the 2010 Olympics. So hard to believe 14 years just flew by. This performance was absolutely on another planet. She made Vancouver look great for giving her the much deserved spotlight. She represented Canada so well ... very proud Canadians!
The version of this that she did in 2006 and in front of Leonard Cohen on the night of his induction into the Canadian Songwriter's Hall Of Fame is my personal favourite cover of this song. This was his reaction that night: "Leonard Cohen's partner, singer Anjani Thomas, in an interview with Wears the Trousers magazine, says that of all the interpretations the famous song has been given, it's k.d.'s she and Cohen see as the definitive one: “After hearing k.d. lang perform that song at the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2006 we looked at each other and said, ‘well, I think we can lay that song to rest now! It’s really been done to its ultimate blissful state of perfection’. I don’t think I could even try it, because it’s been so magnificently done.” Leonard Cohen was asked to sing the song on this night at the Olympcs gala and he told them to ask Lang because it was her song now, so they did. This tells how much he thought of her talent. You can find that version here: m.ua-cam.com/video/P_NpxTWbovE/v-deo.html&pp=ygUvS2QgbGFuZyBoYWxsZWx1amFoIGF0IGNhbmFkYSBoYWxsIDlmIGZhbmUgbmlnaHQ%3D Thank you sharing one of the world's greatest voices.
She had the power to blow the roof off the building but still gave the lower, quieter notes their due...she never short-changes a note. First time I heard her was forever ago on The Tonight Show with Carson. She sang "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray", a Patsy Cline song, and totally blew me away. A totally different type of song, but everything she sang was wonderful. She hit and held notes I didn't think possible, and she was sitting through the whole song. Amazing talent - amazing performance! And, I might add, a beautiful, heartfelt reaction on your part. Thank you for that.
k.d. is in a class of her own. She can sing anything beautifully but this performance was perfection. Your reaction mirrored many of ours watching - you cannot help but feel emotional watching her in action.
@@doreenjaeger2744 She's also said it's because she doesn't like the plastic shoes she'd been wearing - don't understand why she wouldn't wear canvas shoes but that's just me - as her Buddhist beliefs don't allow for the wearing of leather footwear.

I am not a religious person, but sitting in my livingroom watching that performance during the 2010 Winter Olympics is the closest I've ever felt to having a spiritual moment. I just sat and wept in absolute wonder and reverence.
The youth choir at our Methodist church sings it. Greatest crooner ever! Vancouver had the greatest opening ceremony of all winter olympics. London gets the summer prize.
She started out as a Country singer. But when those in Nashville found out that she was gay, they turned against her. And it's my belief that her career got even stronger and bigger.
KD Lang with her humility and her deep respect for the song writers whose songs she sings is the whole package of brillance: voice, singing, interpretation of lyrics, attitude, personality, stage presence, connection with the audience. You understand exactly what she's telling you with her best-on-the-planet voice and singing skills. She's the emotions storyteller, don't know anyone else with such a powerful skillset. And such a beatiful human being at that.
Those tears ... yeah, my reaction to her, too. Actually, the first k.d. lang album I bought -- I sat in front of the stereo with tears streaming down my face. It wasn't that the songs were sad, it was just an emotional reaction to the ability of a human to create such beauty. I'm not Canadian, but that performance still made me proud.

I have listened to this covered by so many but THIS may be the best. She absolutely made love to that song. KD Lang is a stunning talent. I agree with your assessment of the quality of her voice.
I remembering watching this back in 2010. It was magical. The visuals really enhanced the performance as well. Also, let's compare these opening Olympics to the ones we just had. Pentatonix also covers this song, they do an amazing job as well but I don't think it tops this one!

I have commented before about K.D. Lang. This woman can tame wild beasts, heal wounds, and end world wars just by singing. She has been overlooked, undermined, and disrespected by the industry. Beautiful. She amazes me every time I listen to her.
For her to perform this song during the Olympic Winter Olympics 2010 still brings goosebumps to my skin. Being able to be there I can't really explain in context how emotional the home town crowd was that night. Only thing that comes close was 'The Hips final performance of their final concert (RIP Gordie! Always remembered) For Leonard Cohen to come out and say he wrote this song decades before K.D. was born just for her to sing it.... man. A lot of people say the Buckley version is good but I'm gonna have to go with the guy that wrote the song and he's given care blanche to Kadie. Says it all right there.
I've been a fan since the first time I saw her interviewed on a local channel before she was known anywhere. "I just want to sing," she said. And she did. No matter how many times she's performed this song, it's always 110%.
I’m so glad that you felt the same thing I did. I’ve seen her in person in a very small venue, and she is simply, a miracle. She is too small to hold that much sound. She throws back her head, and the perfect voice of Heaven just pours out of her. It’s crazy. And you nailed it.
What did we tell you.....just probably the very best song ever done for an audience. And I am a Journey, H&O, Aerosmilth, ABBA, Eagles, Dion, Streisand, Toto, Ambrosia, Bread, Tom Jones kinda girl. Just amazing.

Nick Forell- I love how you were able to show your emotions. It is so refreshing. K.D. Lang's version of Hallelujah is so beautiful.
She has one of the finest voices I've ever been fortunate enough to hear. You'll love her song "Constant Craving." She's amazing.
You nailed it with her voice being like butter. Take a listen to her version of “The air that I breathe”. It’s like warm honey. Her biggest radio hit was “constant craving” which is exceptional too. Welcome to k.d.!
K.D. Lang has a rich beautiful voice. ❤
I've been a K.D.Lang fan for a long time. Her voice is magical.
So many great versions of this song but this is my favorite.
I have listened to this covered by so many but THIS may be the best. She absolutely made love to that song.
KD Lang is a stunning talent. I agree with your assessment of the quality of her voice.
Songs you've cried to at first hearing.
And the answer is Hallelujah by kd Lang
You should see K.D.Lang 'Constant Cravings" Once you here this you listen to it over and over.
ABSOLUTELY!
The very best version ever. No comparison. What a voice, skill and masterly control.
I remembering watching this back in 2010. It was magical. The visuals really enhanced the performance as well. Also, let's compare these opening Olympics to the ones we just had. Pentatonix also covers this song, they do an amazing job as well but I don't think it tops this one!
Comparison? No contest.
Her voice is like warmed Maple Syrup poured over Chapman’s Vanilla ice cream.🩷🇨🇦
So many of us cry when Katherine Dawn Lang sings. The tears are for that incredible voice.
THAT was EPIC K.D.
I cried in 2010 when I watched and every single time since including today.
K.D. owned this Hallelujah❤
Its got to be the finest performance by a female artist in the history of pop music . Shes just amazing
Nobody sings this song better than k.d. Lang! Nobody else has the vocal range to sing like this! I get goosebumps every time I watch this performance.
Best version ever! Her vocal and breath control are unparalleled!
I can feel her voice through my soul when she sings this song. ❤
I am 70. Just found you. I am so glad you are hearing music from the past, You have 50 plus years of music to listen to! Your reaction brought me to tears.
Welcome aboard!
Me too
She takes your breath away! She sings from her soul. Look, everyone was quite, respecting the song and her voice.
If you have time to explore kd’s music.. please watch her video of Constant Craving. She also has several other videos of her singing Hallelujah, including one in which she’s singing it for Leonard Cohen at an awards show. I believe that is when he said that the song was now hers.. he would not sing it again!
I saw this performance watching the Olympics, and still cry every time I watch it. She outdid herself with this! Glad to see it affects you and others in the same way. She is amazing!!
Beautiful
Brought me to tears to!!
I saw her in Concert had a front row seat and best concert ive been to!
Because she can tell a story while she sings!!
Goose bumps the whole concert!!
If u get a chance to see her live u should go!!
I would spend my savings to get the chance to see her performance in person! ❤❤
Been to so many of kd's concerts; love her voice & her music. She almost always performed barefoot & talks to her audience-- she's amazing❤
Thank you for appreciating that with tears and for not interrupting.
14 years later it still brings tears to my eyes and such a sense of pride to call her a fellow Canadian!
Just watching your face during the performance....says it all....yes an amazing performance
What a beautiful, sensitive man you are! So special. All who know you are so fortunate!
Absolutely the most incredible singer ever. The voice of an Angel.
Hers is my favorite cover ever!!
I have commented before about K.D. Lang. This woman can tame wild beasts, heal wounds, and end world wars just by singing. She has been overlooked, undermined, and disrespected by the industry. Beautiful. She amazes me every time I listen to her.
I love KD since she was a child. She's funny, very sincere and of course that Amazing voice . Beautiful person..
No one can do it better than her. She is totally awesome. Love ❤️ her.
For her to perform this song during the Olympic Winter Olympics 2010 still brings goosebumps to my skin. Being able to be there I can't really explain in context how emotional the home town crowd was that night. Only thing that comes close was 'The Hips final performance of their final concert (RIP Gordie! Always remembered) For Leonard Cohen to come out and say he wrote this song decades before K.D. was born just for her to sing it.... man. She knew she had the hometown crowd's energy behind her and she just went out there and sang the shit out of this song
(fun fact: the mechanizm that was in charge of lowering the platforms up and down malfunctioned and she was stuck up there fir a While while they got her down. And like the true Canadian she is she took it in stride cracking jokes. Si glad you found this song sung by the person handpicked by L Cohen as THE person this song belonged to.
Hauntingly beautiful. She is truly one of our best. 🇨🇦💕💕💕👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇨🇦
I’m so glad that you felt the same thing I did. I’ve seen her in person in a very small venue, and she is simply, a miracle. She is too small to hold that much sound. She throws back her head, and the perfect voice of Heaven just pours out of her. It’s crazy. And you nailed it.
I watch this a lot, not just for kd langs singing, but for nick forells reaction to it which was so authentic.
I got to see this live! She is one of my favourite singers! Thank you for this! ❤️🇨🇦
What did we tell you.....just probably the very best song ever done for an audience. And I am a Journey, H&O, Aerosmilth, ABBA, Eagles, Dion, Streisand, Toto, Ambrosia, Bread, Tom Jones kinda girl. Just amazing.
Chills up the spine every time listening to k.d. lang singing this!
What a sound system too for this enormous venue. Pin drop… ❤️💕
First time I've seen your channel and I love it ❤ You are spot on about KD Lang. I remember having exactly the same reaction her for the first time back in the 90s. She's truly amazing, there is no one like her You saw that immediately when you heard her singing her Roy Orbison tribute of Crying. I'm so impressed with your great insight. Subscribing here today 🎉
Thank you so much! 😊
K.D. Lang is absolutely one of our national treasures. An incredible talent with a velvet voice who is too often overlooked. I remember watching the performance live during the Olympics. I got chills and teared. What a powerful performance ❤
Congrats to you for letting it all hang out there! She brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it too!
Loved your reaction to her. Literally every time I hear her sing , I get goosebumps.
Mesmerizing performance by Ms Lang !!
I first saw kd Lang before she was famous, at the
University of Alberta in a small venue. She was in her ripped wedding dress / fishnets phase and sang country - ish music. It was awesome !!
😮Me too...saw her at the Sidetrack Cafe in Edmonton. Knew right then that she would be a 🌟
